The color of his sound, the technique, the expressiveness in the simple way of bending notes, the phrasing. There has never been anything close to Chet Baker. Many have come close but it was simply a gift from God given to this man to play this way. He heard things that nobody else heard, almost like voices coming to him as he played through the pain of his every day life. Beautiful, sad and simply amazing. Thanks Chet, I will always love you.
Capolavoro immenso. Chet Baker, un genio musicale. Come La Fenice risorge dalle ceneri, Chet attraverso la sua musica, la sua tromba, risorge dalle ceneri e brilla ancora ed ancora. Spettacolo!
I was just 3 days old during this performance... 37 years later I'm discovering Chet Baker for the first time. He appeared in a youtube cycle and I could have sworn he was a new, modern act. I was shocked to find he was a star from the 50s. Jazz, yes, but he still sounded ahead of his time. RIP Chet!

I'm 43 and one birthday my older sister gave me a Chet baker cassette for my 15th birthday What a gift. Chet has always felt so sincere. So real. When you play an Intrument with the experiences of life ringing through with a unique such a unique talent. It's real. Real life. Real emotion can't be fabricated. This performance shows his wounds. Fantastic. Tears. So good. Love him at this point in his life. You can't duplicate this. Thank you Chet. Thank you.
I found Chet's music by accident and I'm now a big fan! Just ordered one of his albums and my parents think its kinda weird that a sixteen year old is listening to jazz

Chet's music continues to inspire all these years later. SO thankful to have seen and met this LEGEND at The Jazz Showcase. I sat through two sets, completely in AWE of this amazingly lyrical musician. Mr. Baker graciously autographed three albums I'd brought to his gig. His albums are on the wall of my music practice room all these years later, providing inspiration.
One of the all time great live performances of any genre. Listening to this its like Chet managed to rewind time back to the 50s he is absolutely flawless here.
Notable, grandioso, la esencia pura de su espíritu se siente en esta presentación. Llega hasta lo más profundo del alma, se disfruta y se sufre. Lo máximo Chet
I love Chet Baker, but every time i listen to him i just can feel his loneliness and sadness, I just want to hugh him and tell him everything will be allright (guess it's too late)
just found Chet by watching his movie with eithan hawke damn my soul left my body some of the best music I heard and i am new to jazz what a way to start thank you Chet Baker for finding my lost soul
Started listening to chet when i was a teenager in minneapolis in 1958. I was 14 years old. Brubeck, miles, chet, ahmad etc.started my lifelong love of jazz. l Was lucky enough to see chet live in the mid eighties in san francisco (about the time of this concert). When i walked into the club i couldnt believe his beautiful sound it filled the club. I did'nt know he had such a big sound! Their will only be one Chet. A true master artist who is sorely missed!!
It's difficult to believe he had less than a year to live at this concert, such a great talent from a sometimes-tortured soul who had the talent of 10,000 musicians. In his singing here, around 20:00 you can tell he "tongues" with his voice like he does on the trumpet! Such inner talent -- remarkable. Superb jazz from all the players, at this concert. I would have loved to have jammed with these guys! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS so we can continue to enjoy Chet -- though he is gone, his great talent and his music lingers on.
One of Chets best later performances, he looks good and unusually for this period is in a suit and that first class rhythm section led by Harold Danko superb .
He came to my hometown, Kumamoto in between 85-87. Don’t remember exactly but he was frustrated about the piano player and said ‘I don’t need you’. Everything’s marvelous apart from that. I was shocked when he died shortly after that. He is still alive in our mind.
Grew up listening to Jazz like (Oscar Petersen) in the sixties...My father and all my uncles were Jazz 🎷 musos... Love CB...he's up there with the best...Love Jazz.
Chet is just the best of all time. I'm sorry, there's no debate. We are blessed that his music survived and we get to experience it. Life might suck, but it's nowhere near as bad as Chet's blowing is good. RIP Chesney. Thanks for the music.
Have to agree with George below.................this is the best Chet has ever sounded ....So much emotion I think he knew his end was near........his soul is in this music..........RIP a great artist.
Chet Baker was a giant of jazz. Watching this video is really astonishing admire how he managed playing and singing so incredibly well and in a such easy way in the latest years of his carrer, when he was suffering serious problems of health. Everyone should have in own's home this legendary double cd. The musicians are simply fantastic, especially Harold Danko on piano. Thanks a lot for posting.
Less than a year before his death and he created those amazing phrases. Unbelievable career. Thanks for the post. Love Chet. Check Bruce Weber's film "Let's get Lost" and the Robert Budreau's "Born to be Blue". Beautiful.

Chet Baker and this band in particular, is to me one of the best set of musicians playing with Chet. Although he has played with many of my favourites also but these other 3 musicians are sublime. Anyone who knows me will know how (hi the moon) I feel about Chet. I have asked for this CD for Christmas and I WON'T play it before.
Never heard him In better condition. He was In Top, Top form on that night. Chet Baker fans needed about 50 more albums from the Master before his death. So sad!!! R.I. P. Chet and Thank you very much for your career. Luv ya baby!!!
