The next best basketball league is in Europe and their best team would be at best a lower tier team in the nba. Remember only about 1% or less of international players are actually good enough to make the nba. Tens of thousands international players try to make the nba and only 120 are currently in the mix or are on an actual roster. If the nba actually add international teams they would beat them by double digits if the nba teams actually took it seriously. It doesn’t really matter to me if the nba stopped saying it because we all still know that they are the best in the world even if people would rather be politically correct. Now in the nfl I can say with out a doubt that they are the best in the world because the talent gap is so wide the international teams wouldn’t even be able to compete with our D1 collegiate teams and would probably drop down to D2 just for the sake of their players health. Noah is the only athlete I’ve seen so far that went against this brainwashing publicly. He should be proud that he’s not a sheep.
For some context, It would be like if Track crowned the world champion to whoever won US nationals because it's the toughest country to make a team in pretty much every event. General public don't know how hard US nationals/trials are and that athletes basically have to be at their peak to make it out the US Or that athletes will claim another country to get to the Olympics or worlds because of how hard it is to make it out of US trials. Now if the nba champs went on to play euro league champs or the toughest league champs in some type of tournament that could be an interesting plot twist for the NBA to add.
All facts! The best comment of the day. I’m a U.S. Champ and a World Champ and I can’t call myself a world champ from my USA titles. I had to wait until I got a World Championship medal 🥇
It’s just as hard for an American to make it in the NBA though. Imagine how much harder the US nationals would be if they flew in the greatest runners from around the world for you to compete with on top of all the US talent you have to overcome. All the greatest players in the world, including the euro league players end up in the NBA. The last 3 MVPs aren’t even American. The NBA is the toughest basketball league in the world. If you want to make the conversation about Olympics we all know team USA dominates that & if that’s not enough, there’s this thing called the FIBA World Cup held every 4 years where all the best players in the world play for their home countries & guess what? All the best players in the tournament no matter the country they represent are also in the NBA yet USA has the most titles & are on their way to winning another one this year. I could argue that if only players from the US were eligible to play in the NBA it would STILL be the toughest basketball league in the world. The way the NBA is set up is unique & should not be compared to Track but Noah Lyles decided to open that can of worms so now we’re here. Bottom line is when it comes to basketball, winning the NBA Finals is the hardest & most impressive feat a team can achieve in the sport of basketball.

Noah Lyles is 100% correct! Full stop! “It doesn't make sense for an NBA team to call themselves World Champions. I don't remember anybody playing outside our borders to get that tag”. Greg Popovich Greg Popovich said this 10 years ago. How come no one called him out and tried to belittle Popovich, as some NBA players are arrogantly doing to a true global superstar? Does it have anything to do with skin color? Just asking for a friend.
Sports is about anything can happen at any moment. So even though you are the best that doesnt mean you automatically win. You first have to "compete" first.
I'll try explain from this angle. the best football (soccer) league is considered to be the English Premier League. 66% of that league is foreign (non - British) and most football players strive to get to that league yet the winners of that league are not and cannot be deemed "World Champions". to further that point, they go on to compete against the best teams from other European leagues in the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, even then they aren't "World Champions", although that would be more acceptable since its a battle amongst multiple teams from multiple leagues.
Technically, the players or teams competing for world championships have to represent their country. It doesn't matter whether the level of competition of the national league is higher than the international tournament.
The people in the US should be thankful for Noah. This man shows you, how you get respect back from the world. A bit of understatement and don’t make yourself bigger then you are. Big up for Noah.
This is easy. To be 'World Champion' you have to face teams/athletes from all over the world. To give an example: the champion of the Premier League (the best soccer LEAGUE in the World) is not called 'World Champion' and it is where the best players in the World usually play. Same case for the UEFA Champions League, which is the most important club COMPETITION in the world. The UCL Champion is the European Champion. If we talk about basketball, the only case for a team (National Team in this case) to be the 'World Champion' is that it wins the FIBA World Cup, when the current Champion is Spain, not the USA. Only most of the Americans will say that they are always the champions of everything. Noah is right. Brandon got the point here, of course.
Lyles is completely correct. Nobody is debating the quality of the players in the NBA but it's not a world competition. The title "World Champion" means usually an open competition where, at least in theory anyone can enter and win. The quality of players doesn't come into it, because in basketball especially there are many good or at least decent leagues all around the world. There is the basketball world cup or world champs, sorry I can't remember what it's called 😂, but that is where the real world champions are decided, because any country can enter.
The NBA being the best League in the world by a stretch and having most of the best players in the world undoubtedly, doesn't make the NBA Champions World Champions because the NBA is only played between teams from American cities bar one or two teams... The winners of the UEFA Champions League in European Club Soccer NEVER claim to be World Champions and nor do ANY of their players. That's the best analogy that one can give to the NBA Champions.
Semantics. The UEFA winner is typically viewed as the best soccer team in the world. Anyone who tells you otherwise is being disingenuous. Things are that are understood don’t need to be stated. Your position on this is like me saying that Man City isn’t the best club in the world because they haven’t beaten the MLS champ. You’re letting gratuitous trivialities cloud common sense. The UEFA Champion isn’t crowned the world champ but they’re clearly the best team in the world so why does a title matter? If anything the title of world champ not being attracted to the best team devalues it.
@@abdullenoir1792 How in all what I wrote there did you come out with me suggesting that Man City are not the best football team in the world? So, I will say this , they are the best club football team in the world, but they are not world champions.
You can have the best basketball league in the world, but it's still not a world event because it's no other countries submitting teams to the NBA. So if this is not a world event, you can't crown a world champion. You're getting the two conflated
I dislike arguing with people who take things too literally. Technically, they aren't the world champion, but the best players in the world play in this league. When the Olympics come, the best athletes in the world compete but in the major sports the best players in the world don't always compete because they are saving themselves for something they believe is more important. A world event is about nations against each other, not about talent but representation. A civil war cannot be considered a world war regardless if the country has the strongest military
Noah is ABSOLUTELY correct. Our American teams are the best funded MLB, NBA,NFL, etc. But our Olympic teams don't always win against international competition. Our baseball professionals lost against Japan, I believe. Noah is right.

That's the 22-23 stats
Yea 120 international players out of what 220 countries in the world? Still the sample size doesn't add up to be called "World champions" if they had teams from 36 different countries competing then they can. The world cup is a world trophy because 36 teams come from 36 different countries
No other sport can have this debate because nobody has a sport the world tunes into to watch the best players in the world from around the world unless its international but the NBA.
It's funny how in the past 20-21 years (since 1998), USA has only won the FIBA Basketball World Cup twice (out of five editions). That is an actual WORLD championship. But hats off to Brandon Marshall for speaking some sense. Even if your American League has some of the best players from around the world, that still does not make it a WORLD championship. With that logic, do how many more sporting leagues in different countries around the world would be "world championships"? Look at baseball. The final of the MLB is called the "World Series" and the winners of the this "World Series" are called "World Champions." How??? Earlier this year, the World Baseball Classic was on, That is the world cup/world championship of baseball. The final was contested by USA and Japan. Guess who won, Japan. But an MLB fan will insist on calling the Houston Astros the "world champions of baseball." How does that make sense when the best baseball team in the world is Japan? All in all, Americans need to realize that USA is not THE WORLD. USA is a country and other countries exists and those other countries play sports too. Dont forget that the NBA is the biggest and most famous in the world if it comes to basketball, and that where the money is. These international players have to go to the NBA to follow the money. If every league around the world would generate the same income many of the international players would stay in their country, making their country a better league as well. If there isnt an international competition yoi cant call yourself world champions unless you play against international teams. Even if its the best league. In soccer theres the champions league, but they wont call themselves the world champions either. Thats why they also organise a World championship for clubs in soccer. Where the best from each part of the world come together and play against each other. Now the Champions League is still more prestigious but it wont be a world championship.

Your league winner in certain sports is probably the best in the world, but until you beat other league winners, you don't have the right to be world champion.

Just because you're in the NBA doesn't mean you're better than everyone else in the world. Talent is without a doubt what makes you an NBA player, but connections also play a role. The NBA isn't the World Championships! for basketball, the World Championships are run by FIBA. The NBA is a PRIVATE League. Its the most lucrative basketball LEAGUE globally. So, we might as well call the English Premier League the football World Championships -_-

The issue is that “world champions” is a political statement that every owner, coach, and professional athlete will defend 9 times out of 10. Noah is the only athlete I’ve seen so far that went against this brainwashing publicly. He should be proud that he’s not a sheep.
For some context, It would be like if Track crowned the world champion to whoever won US nationals because it's the toughest country to make a team in pretty much every event.
General public don't know how hard US nationals/trials are and that athletes basically have to be at their peak to make it out the US
Or that athletes will claim another country to get to the Olympics or worlds because of how hard it is to make it out of US trials.

It is true tho. That's the problem with America, they hate hearing the truth.
She doesn’t get it. Imagine the premiere league calling their self world champions after winning a title in a domestic league
Yes but unfortunately they play in the nba so they can’t play

He’s not wrong though. Lol
Call It the NBA Intercontinental Championship

Noah is correct. This isn't even noteworthy.
If u have to say "He has a point tho" u already know theres more context to his statement.... the best of the best from around the world plays in the NBA thats why they say world champ... people love to argue semantics without context jus to seem right
So why soccer players or premier league they don't call them self world champion ? Because they do have the best of the best players in UEFA champions-league
@@salomaobeto8369 no league operates the same.... Some people can't distinguish between national and world. I am sure it's NBA and not world BA
@@HOTFIREENT22no soccer team will smoke Manchester City right now. But they are still not world champions
Sometime making everyone entitled to their opinion can come across unbelievable and sickening cause how can she sit there and not acknowledge that Noah Lyles is right.
that's why there is FIBA and OLYMPICS for you to represent your country, the NBA is NATIONAL CHAMPION because they (NBA PLAYERS) are paid by billionaires to represent the city within the USA, There is one in Canada.
Girl how many of the players from abroad have NBA RINGS??? Stop it! How can you be a world champion if you aren’t competing against other countries??? Stop it!
People done forgot the raptors are in the league i guess
Every sane or logical person would say Noah has a valid point... Competing in a National League doesn't make one a world champion. Competing against the best in the world does make you one. Just because entire NBA is coming after him, doesn't make them right. NBA is the best basketball league in the world, no doubt. But then again, NBA Champion is not equal to World Champion. Period.
Name the best 30 basketball teams in the world right now 😂
Spain is no.1 rank by FIBA, USA is only no.2 by FIBA
@@robertotampioc7318 that’s by Fiba. And Spain’s best player is Willy hermangomez. And he’s a bench player in the NBA. There’s levels to this. Who’s the best basketball team in the world right now? The Denver Nuggets

Yep, just like superbowl champions are not world champs or just like the world series winners are not world champs so im just glad someone finally said it, it needs to stop, you are an NBA champion not a world champion, Noah is a real world champion.
You guys got just beat by the Germans in basketball shame on you you not the WorldChampion
No one is saying the USA ain't the best at basketball no one is saying the NBA ain't the best basketball league in the world NL is saying a national league is not a world championship and he's right
World champions means the whole world is participating like track and field! The NBA is not a world league! It’s US based with one Canadian team! 😂

How would he sound like a hater? He’s an actual world champion 💀💀 a 6 time WC at that
Noah is technically right. It really is an arrogance unique to american leagues and players because in other sports were the elite are in other countries (say the UEFA Champions League for soccer) the winners don't go around calling themselves world champions. American exceptionalism is a disease fr, we need to be more humble.
And yet none of those foreign players trying to play overseas. Noah on that bullshit. Stick to track. And ps, us Americans on the regular winning 🥇 so we aint gotta stay humble for shit.

Her argument is invalid. Using the Olympics analogy NBA isn’t the only sport to dominate at the Olympics (smh). The US as a whole dominates bc of the diversity that makes up our teams but every sport doesn’t have world champions.
Agree with noah on this one NBA IS Domestic league for example if you say a English Premier league is also a Domestic league but you don't hear from any player from there saying we win the English premier league we are world champions I think is a American thing example messi is playing in inter miami and he is argentian so can a MLS LEAGUE winner be world champions and if you come to Europe most of the European league are full international players from all over the world but there no one calling them self a world champions
Why is this a debate? People are really that lost in themselves. Noah 💯
She speaking facts and brandon just made her point without even trying lol
Team USA just lost to Germany in the FIBA World Cup It's Up! Not The Best!
If he got a professional team that wants to go up against the NBA champions after their title win, BRING THEM ON! Other than that, he needs to 🤫💯

This woman likes to hear her rubbish. Now all the best sporting leagues in the world can be called world champions 😂😂
Do people not like the new format of I Am Athlete? The viewership is way too low for these shows lately. NBA champs are NBA champs. There are a ton of other professional basketball leagues in the world. They should come up with a name for the finals like the NFL, who calls their event the Super Bowl, instead of American Football World champs.
Nope. Nfl Champs are world Champs. It used to be called the world championship before it was called the super bowl
@@newnights lol. You can’t be world champs when you only play teams in your country lol
You’re not going against other countries to win an NBA title either!
I don't understand why Noah Lyles had to Disrespect NBA player's, case closed
Noah Lyles 100 % right NBA like English premier league they the best league in the world but not world champios, sthepen A said"oh NBA have player 40 different country, English premier league have almost 500 player from 115 different country, no one talk win primer league win world champions ,world cup world champions.
Let's be honest the NBA is the Olympics of basketball. So when they say world champions they're talking about playing against the best of the best in the world not different basketball leagues but best players in the world.
I think they always called themselves world champions, even when in the 50's, 60's, 70's when there were almost no foreigners. So their reason for calling themselves World Champions has nothing to do with that, of course. It's just arrogance and bad upbringing. The point is to be the best in the world, not to be the world champion.
If that was so how come they can't compete without The NBA star from their country as far as talent cause money doesn't make talent that's what you fail to realize
@@AD-eh3xn They can compete without them, the thing is that it isnt as big in Europe and the wage difference is so massive they move over. If a competition in their own country would be as well payed and as high level why would they leave ? Popularity mean more people play it so more people to scout for talent. Better trainers is better players. Better trainers cost more money, better facilities cost more money. If better players stay in a competition the competition level rises and make the country better for players to play in. Basketball just isnt as populair in the rest of the world. But in the end it still doesnt take away the NBA is not a WBA its in the name... National.. so its still not a world championship. Even though its the biggest and best league in the world.
@@Butterfingers1989Who cares about winning a less prestigious title? No one cares about the club World Cup. Most of the time the European clubs competing don’t even start their best players. Most soccer fans can’t even tell you the past winners of that tournament.
To me the world champ when talking about clubs or league teams is the winner of the most prestigious competition. The winner of the UEFA champions league is the world club champ (best team in the world). The winner of the NBA champ is the world champ (best team in the world). Any other title when we talk about club or league competition is secondary.
Also you’re talking about what ifs. Yeah if basketball was more popular in other countries those leagues might close the gap. But they don’t so who cares. Those players that can close the gap don’t exist and aren’t going to exist. A completely moot point
@@abdullenoir1792 You are right its not the most prestigious price like i said. But at least it exists and you can call yourself a world champion. Unlike basketball where you just play in a national league.
She making good points though even if what Noah said is a complete fact....Him being an American downing an American league is crazy
Ma'am, you're wrong again. We didn't win the Olympics every single time. I don't think that you even watch the Olympics. I'm sorry
even if some international basketball players play in the NBA it is still a domestic league...not a world league...
This is not a big issue for most Americans and some are surprised it comes up. But they should know...
This has been a pet peeve of the rest of the world for some time, and It's important because it negatively affects America's image around the world (self-centered, entitled, and presumptuous). Your league winner in certain sports is probably the best in the world, but until you beat other league winners, you don't have the right to be world champion.
Lyles is right... The NBA is the National Basket-ball Association... How a National association can make a world champion ? That's bullshit... They are National Champions... Period
I watched this entire interview just so I can ensure I give my whole opinion. She has no idea what she’s talking about, just make the example of soccer, this conversation is dead. No premier leauge would call themselves world champs… it’s a joke.
The champions league got more followers and players around the world more money but never a world champion
Girl no. It’s still a NATIONAL LEAGUE. Football leagues recruit people from around the world. This conversation is showcasing AMERICAN DELUSION. USA is not the only country in the world there is sport outside of AMERICA.
"There are so many players who can hoop-literally better than some NBA players-but they play in other leagues, and most of them plays on there national team in FIBA or the Olympics. Just because you're in the NBA doesn't mean you're better than everyone else in the world. Talent is without a doubt what makes you an NBA player, but connections also play a role. If players don’t have the right connections, they might not make it, no matter how skilled they are."
The NBA isn't the World Championships! for basketball, the World Championships are run by FIBA. The NBA is a PRIVATE League. Its the most lucrative basketball LEAGUE globally.
So, we might as well call the English Premier League the football World Championships -_-
Seeing all the players break down over this and other people trying to prove him wrong makes this all the more hilarious. You guys are screaming insecurity all over the place. No one is questioning whether the NBA is the best league in the world. It's more about them self-certifying without challenging the best teams in other leagues. If you want to be a World Champion ..earn it by beating other leagues in competition!!!. NATIONAL Basketball Association, I repeat, NATIONAL... Cant be world champions playing a national league!! Noah's absolutely right! Period!!
Whenever the USA says they are the best at anything in the World (which is constantly) you know immediately this is a tip off they are not.
