*Current* FIBA World Cup and it’s format is very recent and has only recently (maybe to “western world” viewers) become a thing. Yes the NBA is *old* and FIBA itself being older…but the point being made here is that football’s World Cup is at the highest level of prestige, FIBA’s version only fairly recently has come into people’s consciousness…leaving many people to have a fair argument that the NBA’s title is the most significant globally, for years. Now that the world is getting smaller basketball-wise with world talent getting better (as shown in this year’s World Cup) those international tournaments will be seen as a better judge of who is the best.
@@Baseline2BaselineUK I'm living outside the NBA bubble, so for me, there was always this duality of NBA (since early 80s) and FIBA (national team). Remember, back then it wasn't even possible for NBA pros to participate! The only world champion was played out at FIBA WC... But if I wanted to see Magic or Larry, I had to look at the NBA!
@@rainerzufall42 totally understand! And that’s where I think Noah’s comment was so much more profound than what he even expected. He was stating truth very simply…but your example shows how much the NBA isn’t really at the centre for everyone. It is undoubtedly the best league in the world with its collection of talent but these international competitions are the real deal with an even stage and footing for everyone to battle it out. What the Americans need to do is send their best to participate every time and then the debate can be had legitimately.

Noah Lyles was correct, however how he conveyed his message was wrong. He was condescending and downplaying NBA players and their hard work when making that statement. Yes, they’re NBA champions (National Champions), but just because a you’re a world champion doesn’t mean you put someone down because of a title. This is probably the reason he received the backlash. He needs a PR rep who can teach him how to give better interviews and be respectful to those who have given him respect and praise throughout his career.
the message is a message no matter how you tell it usa players must put the huge ego down and to be honest Americans are not more the best players in the world period the last 4 mvps are not from usa you put the 2d best nba team you made from jordan era and you lost from GREECE in 2004 did i need to remind you the roster ???? why you (Americans) think this usa team is made for gold is above me !!! and sis hard work my ass did you see how they work in europe ???? he must say the message more softly are y serious??? when us players put the huge ego down and put they ass to work maybe they go walk in the right direction
Even if nobody can beat them that doesnt make the NBA a world championship league. Americans must know that there's a whole wide world out there that's way bigger than them.
that you have to invinte an expert when someone says usa is not the world like this is something we first have to discuss if right or wrong is saying something
Why we argue about this? It's very simple if a one country fight the other countries in the world and manage to defeat all them, you will be called "World Champion", NBA is National basketball sport league so it really means it was inside the US only.. Even there's some player came from other country you cannot say it was a world championship, because that foreigner is playing on that league becuz of paycheck, I hope don't be blinded by arrogantness, the world is not revolving just for them

There is a lot of truth to it, because USA team has lost games against others countries and let's take it consideration that basketball is evolving outside America and the proof of it is the numbers of foreign players, playing corrently in the NBA.
NBA players represented the USA in the last seven Olympics, and they won the gold medal in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020... Oh, that's right, you win the gold but your still not world champions. Makes total sense!" 🙄
Dude your comment is the best example of you not getting the point! The NBA is a close national league. You cannot be world champion period. Even though the level might be the highest.
That´s an olympic champion title. The title world champion was played out yesterday. To get this you have to try in a four years time in 2027 that´s your next chance to earn it.
Oh absolutely, because nothing screams 'world champions' like limiting the competition to a mere few weeks every four years during the Olympics. I mean, clearly the NBA, with its grueling season and playoffs featuring international stars from around the world competing at the highest level of the sport, just doesn't quite measure up, does it?
No it doesn't. Anybody who understands the logistics involved in organizing world competition would understand why it takes that long to put them together. But again, that is not the point here. Every other league in every sport in the world plays gruelling seasons, and has international stars from different countries playing there as well, including US players. The NBA just happens to have the strongest brand and is the most popular basketball league around the world. Having international stars and being widely known around the world doesn't make winners of a league world champions. National Teams playing against one another in world cups/championships does. In such tournaments, international players in the NBA will be playing against their teammates for a world title and is the winner is the world champion. To think that having more visibility means you have the most difficult league, gruelling seasons and whatnot is factually in correct. Also, the Olympics isn't the official world cup for Basketball, the FIBA Basketball World Cup is, which Germany won recently and USA came out fourth. So, no! Team USA aren't world champions and NBA champions are NBA champions. Nothing more than that.
False equivalency @michaelwtright8706 there are more international meets than the Olympics. Every year there are world championships in every branch of sport, alongside national championships. Americans only pay attention to international meets during the Olympics. To the rest of the world, the Olympics is actually 'just' another world championship. They have already competed against eachother at world level in the years in between Olympics. In some sports, the Olympics aren't even the most prestigious titles you can get!
No need to be butthurt Noah is completely right. US basketball team got their butts kicked in the world championship anyway not even in top 3 shameful 😂
Everybody is missing the overall point. (1) Noah lied. The Nuggets, the Warriors, the Bucks championship hats do not have the phrase World Champions, on it. When dude was in diapers, maybe he could make that argument but nah bro you tripping off of something that doesn’t exist. (2) when was the last time you heard anybody from the NBA refer to it as world champions? As alluded to in this video, clearly they have the best individuals and teams in the world. And I have heard NBA superstars bestow best in the world comments, but not the specific phrase world champions prior to Noah's rant! (3) the real point is why was he talking about the NBA in the first place? The reporter hadn't asked anything about the NBA, but merely what Noah could do to help elevate Track + Field. He responded out of frustration about Track not getting the love it deserves and unprompted, reached out to drag the NBA down (his condescending tone and expression prove my point), in order to try to lift his sport up. Even if he was telling the truth, I couldn't get behind his process....but he wasn't and most people got caught up on if NBA are world Champs. Check the full 12 minute interview and then tell me what is the real point!
@panafricannation but when you listen to the interview, he said it hurts the most when he sees World Champion on their heads. That practice ceased years ago. To make such an emphatic statement about something said offhand is telling more about you, then the thing said offhand.
@panafricannation I can respect that. I don't think Lyles set out to intentionally denigrate the NBA. The full interview displays how he let his frustrations about Track & Field not getting the love it deserves trigger him to lash out at the NBA, completely unprovoked. Even if what he said was 100% accurate and it is not, we should hesitate to want to get behind that and admonish him to be better prepared to handle interviews.

When the NBA refers to the champions as "world champions", it's essentially their way of saying, "Hey, our league is where the crème de la crème of basketball talent gathers from all corners of the world. So, if you win the championship here, you're basically the best in the world." It's a big nod to the high level of competition in the league and how it has historically been the benchmark for basketball excellence globally. Plus, it celebrates the global reach of the NBA, showing that it's not just an American event, but a global phenomenon, bringing together top talents worldwide to compete at the highest level. It's like saying, "Winning here means you've conquered the highest peak in the basketball world!"
What an arrogance. In your logic it is right that only nba teams are the best, in a league only north american teams can compete and the rest of the world not. That seems very very fair !! (Ha Ha) You say you are world champion (because you have no opponent) In our country and without the rest of the world we remain world champion. We say two words - pretentious pathetic You should lernen to lose with dignity. Have a nicht day.
The NBA is 78% American players, and only 22% international. It's not really that much of an international mix. The English Premier League is only 31% UK players and 69% international. So, it's way more international than the NBA, and it's still not a World Championship.
Right or not, the sprinter sounds like he would love to be paid like a NBA player, and he is a bit childish. NBA players are the best players recruited around the world, and the majority of the best players around the world are African American.
All Noah did was show how jealous he is of the NBA. This was his time to shine, and he uses the spotlight to lie and shit on the NBA. He completely ruined my first impression of him. Now every time I see his face I get annoyed.

Come on now!!! Yes , technically they are not competing against any European or Asian teams but do you really think, any club team in the world has any chance against the top 4 NBA teams??? Come on!!! Yes , I would call them The World Champion!!
That needs to be proven. Remember, that NBA and FIBA rules differ considerably. The playing time (40 minutes versus 48 minutes; less time-outs in FIBA) and the smaller field changes plus the fact that the three point line is about 1.5 feet coser to the basket changes the game considerably. Crashing the board is much more an option for FIBA. This means that boxing out is an very important skill not that much applied in NBA. Generating open 3-point-shots is diffucult in FIBA and requires faster ball movement and better tight coordination between players. Again, something you do not see so much in the NBA. Morover, the shot clock in FIBA games resets to 14 seconds after an offensive rebound. Defensive three seconds rule is not applicable in FIBA games. Foul limits and bonus situations are stricter in FIBA. Setting of screens, traveling and contact in general differ between NBA and FIBA. Also, NBA players have to play considerable more games during the season and the play off. NBA players simply have to play at a slower pace (especially in defence) otherwise they would suffer even more injuries. Because of relegation in FIBA national leagues, much more season games have an elimination character (losing means losing a lot of many for teams and players) while in the NBA franchises have the tanking option to coast to the bottom. So, if a top FIBA team would play against a top NBA team according to NBA rules the FIBA team would have a hard time. I doubt that an NBA team without proper preparation has a chance against top FIBA teams like Serbia under FIBA rules. In the FIBA world cup the USA (a team of NBA players of the USA) had an easy groupt with New Zealand, Jordan and Greece (they are not that good this year). They won against Montenegro and lost by 6 against Lithuania The match against Italy was a convicing victory and then they met the only undefeated Team and were lucky that they only lost by 2 against Germany . On the other hand, if a top FIBA team would play against a top NBA team I would assume that the NBA team would win. But who knows? These are nice what-if games. So letst call the winner of the NBA finals the NBA champions and the FIBA worldcup champions FIBA world champions. Okay?
It's not a matter of technicality. It's a matter of reality. They are not world champions. Club championships are not world champions. World Championships are between national teams, and some of the best players in the NBA are not Americans, and would be playing against their teammates to win. You reckon it would be that easy for Team USA to win against a team that included Giannis?
Your whole assumption is wrong club teams never become world champions just world club champions and this title has to be earned. Only national teams can become world champions and that´s what happend yesterday you had your chance.
That's not the point we all agree the NBA got the best players in the world. But the name itself states National not world. America lost to Germany. There are great players who didn't make it to play in the big leagues. You have no idea the best team in the NBA could loose to a community team around somewhere in Africa.

Its as simple as this: America is not the entire world. And world champion is not equal in meaning to best in the world wich nobody is disputing anyways. Everyone defending these NBA players seems to be taking it as Noah saying they arent the best in the world. He just said its silly to call yourself world champion. And the rest of the world agrees!
Germany World champs ! NBA superstars trying to go to the olympics didn’t even play one qualifying game at the fiba world cup as they just want to take the glory of the gold medal but didn’t want to get their hands dirty pmaying at the Fiba World Basketball Championships.😂😂😂😂
Unless your playing the world your not world champion. Personally i don't care what you call them.
He’s absolutely right
NBA players and even the most casual fans do not care about what they are called. Everyone knows it is a league chamoionship. The few that responded took exception to Noah's decision to use his time at the podium to attack the NBA. He should enjoy his championship win and not attempt to further build himself up by tearing others down.
@darrel7589 Agree, suspect he's trying to capitalize off of anti-American sentiment that is so popular these days.
@@darrel7589 People think the NBA players took offense to the World Champions comment, when theyre really bothered by Noah bringing them up negatively for no apparent reason. Historic reasons???
FIBA - founded 1932
NBA - founded 1946
Any questions?
COUNTRY IS FAR BIGGER THAN CLUB. And there is no bigger honour in this world other than representing your country. refused to represent your country? That's just as unpatriotic as it can get.
so Noah Lyles exposed a lot ignorant and arrogant people😅
Noah Lyles was correct, however how he conveyed his message was wrong.
Can any team outside the NBA beat the Denver Nuggets? Golden state warriors?
Yes!
Even if nobody can beat them that doesnt make the NBA a world championship league. Americans must know that there's a whole wide world out there that's way bigger than them.
Nuggets without Joker easy
Even if they can't.. as long as the league is National.. which it is, it could never be "world champions"
Are they all American?

I don't want to brag, but last year our amateur footsal team was the world champion of our regional 2nd division.
that you have to invinte an expert when someone says usa is not the world like this is something we first have to discuss if right or wrong is saying something
So true it hurts.

@@mytwocents2817 For the Olympic winners, the correct title should be "Olympic Gold Medalist" and not Olympic Champion!😊

"Basically" is the key word. Which means almost as. But they aren't world champions. Germany is.
What an arrogance.
In your logic it is right that only nba teams
are the best, in a league only north american teams
can compete and the rest of the world not.
