The fact is that all the best players in the world are already playing in the NBA, so it's already a melting pot of the World's Best. So yes, the team that wins the NBA Championship, is the best team in the World. The Premier League comparison is bad because their are clear examples from the fact that the Ballon D'or is always won outside of the Premier League going to show that there are superior talent playing outside of that league, guys like Mbappe, Messi, CR7, Neymar, Neuer, Lewandowski etc. This has never been the case outside of the NBA, the top talent ALL AROUND THE WORLD has always resided already inside the league.

The NBA is the highest level of competition for basketball. The reason there are fewer international players is because they aren’t good enough (hence why the extremely successful European players come to the NBA). The reason very few people dispute the NBA calling its champion the “world champion” is because no other league’s champion would beat them. This debate is sort of like saying the Champions League shouldn’t be considered a European title because they don’t let the lower division champions compete - while true, letting them compete wouldn’t change the results.

As a European, I feel like it's ridiculous that I even have to say this. Nobody argues that the NBA is the best basketball league in the world by far and therefore the NBA champion is probably the best basketball team in the world. However, this doesn't change the fact that it is arrogant for NBA champions to call themselves world champions. The one and only reason for that is that they didn't win against teams from the whole world but instead only against NBA teams. Yes, they would probably beat every single other team but the point is that they didn't even compete against them so they do not have the right to call themselves world champions. To make it clear, let's just use football, the most popular sport in the world, as a comparison. In Football, the best league is the Premier League, not by a margin as big as the NBA in basketball but it's growing every year. You said that the NBA is a very international league, but it is nothing against the Premier League where 66% of players are foreign compared to the NBA's 21%. So do the Premier League champions call themselves world champions? No. To be fair, there is still one competition which is considered better even though it is not a league: The UEFA Champions League, which is an international European Football Cup. So the Champions League winners call themselves world champions, right? No. The winners of the Champions League compete against the winners of the other continental cups in the Club World Cup and the winner is called the world champion. In 9/10 times, the Champions League winner wins the Club World Cup as well but the point is that they competed against the best of the rest of the world so they can rightfully call themselves world champions. If NBA champions had the desire to call themselves world champions, they could easily go to the FIBA and ask for them to create a basketball world cup. But they have no right to do something like that after winning the NBA. The same goes for the NFL and of course the MLB. I find it really hard to believe that so many American NBA players made fun of Noah after his interview because the things he said were absolutely right. It's not that difficult to understand, you can call yourself a world champion if you beat the best teams all over the world, what is there to argue about that? It is not a coincidence that no foreign NBA player commented on this. It's nothing more than common sense to understand that Noah's statement is absolutely true. This wouldn't have even been a debate in Europe. Americans often don't seem to understand that there is more in the world than the US and they are not the center of the world...

Who cares if your arrogant when in reality you truly are better then everyone else. If the Denver Nuggets were to play the best teams of every country they would win every single one, because the NBA is the pinecal of basketball. Is Noah Lyles arrogant because he's saying he's the fastest man alive even though he hasn't raced every single person in the world? No, he's not arrogant in saying that and he doesn't have to race every single person in the world to prove he's the best in the world. It's the same for the NBA champions, there's no way any other team beat's the Denver Nugget's, and if American NBA player's truly cared about the olympics as much as they did about the NBA championship, they would never lose a gold medal either because even though the best player in the leauge right now is European, there is a larger amount of American Basketball players that are better then the world. So I really don't give a shit if other countries are pressed about it and I don't think it's arrogant of NBA teams to name themselves the best when it's a clear fact that they are, just as Noah Lyles is clearly the fastest man alive.

The Champion's League in Football is the equivalent of the NBA: the best teams in Europe are playing, and the winner is arguably the best team in the world because no other team in the world would be able to beat them. that’s the ‘Murica ego in a nutshell, you’ll notice not even the winner of the Champions League, the most prestigious club tournament in football worldwide, is called “world champion”, they’re the european champions, because it’s a European tournament, the only tournament that can grant you the “world champion” title as a club is the FIFA clubs’ World Cup, where the winners of each major competitions face each other.
If the NBA wants to give their teams a chance to call themselves world champions, they should work with other major international leagues to form a sort of club world cup. Now that would be interesting, international basketball has grown massively to the point where the majority of the top 10 best players in the NBA are foreigners.

Also the point about the league having more and more non-American players and that they make up a lot of the best players in the league including the last five mvp winners doesn't really help the argument because it just shows that the talent outside of America is steadily growing and I would say catching up as well. And yes most of the best non-Americans go to play in the NBA but that doesn't mean that the others are bad or aren't growing because the way it's going there might come a time very very long from now when the NBA isn't the be all and end all of basketball.
