A world Championship produces a world champion, an Olympics produces an Olympic champion (which is an international competition as well) and a national championship (like the NBA) produces a national champion. And all these are regardless of who plays in the competition and how strong the competition is.

USA has lost: 2004 Olympics to Argentina in the Semifinals 2007 World Cup to Greece in the Semifinals 2019 World Cup to Australia in the Quarterfinals I believe they've also lost in previous World Cups, namely the 2003 one but I'm not sure.
