As an American who initially sided with Jxmy, this video persuaded me that NBA champs aren't world champs. Thank you for your unbiased take with great statistics to back it up!
If you watch his vid you would’ve remembered that the nba is 161-17 against international teams are wind rate is literally 90%💀 but he conveniently didn’t mention that, but they called him out for cherry picking💀
I also watched a video saying European teams learn to play as a team, where American schools and college focus on single standout players, so when they make it to the NBA they aren't the best team players. I like basketball but I don't watch enough to be able to form my own opinion on this subject
To facilitate this, the NBA's pre-season games should start a bit earlier. European season usually start in September but the NBA's training camps start at the end of September.
Well duh. The NBA season (82 games) is more than twice as long as a Euroleague season (34 games). Do you realize how much more taxing that is on your body? NBA players aren't always gonna go hard every game. Meanwhile, Euroleague pllayers have to play hard every game because each win or loss means more. But look at how NBA teams turn it up when the playoffs start. They are on another level.
@@drestathagangsta8880 bruh euroleague is Continental competition, every club in euroleague they have domestic competition in their country for example real madrid playing in acb league and copa del rey in they domestic competition
@@drestathagangsta8880 if you count Euroleague, Domestic league, Domestic Cup and Super Cup games, a final4 Euroleague team will have to play around the same amount of games as an NBA team. Also in Europe you don't have commercial time-outs every 5 minutes, so I don't know who's getting more physical at the end. Also in Euroleague all 5 players on the court move like hell, in the NBA it's too much iso and corner men. If you watch a play-off or final 4 game in Europe is like watching wrestling or brawls at times
Add 34 more Games of domestic competition, 1 to 4 of Domestic Cup and 1 or 2 of Supercup. At least 70 Games, 74 at most, only 8 less than in the NBA where 41 Games are played with now defense and with many players resting.
What do the Olympics have to do with this, national teams and clubs are not the same. And 2 years ago USA didn’t even get a medal at the World Championship
@@unknownuser5645 In regards to clubs which use players from around the world, no you're right. Like the NBA also uses players from around the world.... BUT just like FIFA which crowns world champions for football (soccer) and has players play for their countries, the Olympics show that the USA in terms of talent are indeed world champions almost every 4 years in basketball including the last Olympics. Also do you mean the FIBA world championship? Cause USA didn't even get 3rd place last year. Low interest and not sending better talent plays a part in that loss, but they did still lose.

It’s just that the USA decides to start making excuses when they get their asses kicked.
@@unknownuser5645 Not sure where you are from, but when i say "low interest" I am referring to that the USA has low interest in the FIBA title even though they have won 5 world championships. I personally don't like that the USA doesn't take FIBA seriously. But this is showed by this quote on global viewership which also explains why lower talent is sent to FIBA: "One must bear in mind that the US regards the NBA as the pinnacle of the sport. At the World Cup, USA often fields a team with relatively lesser-known players compared to globally renowned stars that headline the NBA. The NBA is more than two times as popular as the FIBA Basketball World Cup in the US (26%)." by business you gov.
You're screaming into the void honestly. We all know that you're right, and Americans (who disagree) are probably too self-centered to have their minds changed on this. Hopefully we get to see more club matches between NBA and other leagues, and hopefully more leagues can develop talent and keep it to compete with NBA teams.

I am a lifelong Chicago Bulls fan, born and raised in Chicago in the 90s and seeing the dominating Jordan/Pippen teams. Continue to watch them to this day. Now I live in London, and my wife is from Barcelona. I went to an FC Barcelona basket game last year with my mom because we used to go to a lot of Bulls games growing up. I got so anxiety ridden because I felt like they were passing way too much. But in reality they were really really hunting for the best kind of shot. No heroball at all. Made it pretty obvious why the current Bulls 'my turn, your turn' with Lavine and DeRozan is failing. I'm quite sure that last years FC Barcelona with Mirotic would beat the last years' Bulls in a series. Being away from the US in general, you understand we are just raised with a ridiculous amount of entitled exceptionalism. It's such a gross look when the cacophony of sports media and former NBA players like Gilbert Arenas continue to talk about players like Jokic like he is a joke. I remember when Nikola Mirotic turned down a contract in Utah and Milwaukee to return to Barcelona. I was like, 'yes, I too would have taken less money to live in a way, way, way better city.' And so many people came down on me in comments about how America was the greatest yadda, yadda, yadda. It's ridiculous that even as somebody that has spent substantial time in all three aforementioned cities; trying to explain thing like worker and social rights, the choice of free healthcare, great infrastructure and public transportation, and pedestrian access just illicits a response of 'that's communism.'
Funny how much the americans actually love communism. When you tell them of good things, they say communism. Also, considering how a lot of american internal politics reminds me of late 19th to early 20th century Europe that nurtured the communist idea, it seems they really want to bring about a revolution. Just weird.
Facts. You know the game. Europe is improving rapidly. Will be great to have that world championship competition created. Very proud of that Spanish team 💪
what do you mean Europe is improving? You do realize that most of the best NBA players are European? NBA is just higher paid league, thats all there is to it. If the same amount of money was circulating in Europe, I believe 90% of Europeans would never even consider going to NBA. On the other hand, calling an NBA team a world champ just because NBA is the strognest league is really stupid. We can all agree that English premiere league is the best football league in the world, but for many years Spanish teams dominated in Champions league over all the English teams, even tho Spanish league is not the strongest. Who is to say that for example Real Madrid wouldn't win an NBA title if they were a part of NBA?
you see the problem is in the translation. in British English world means the earth, together with all of its countries and peoples. However in American English, world means USA.
I don't care about the American definition. The world is the globe and the USA is only a part of it. The American version of the word world is DELUSIONAL AND ARROGANT.
It would be really intense, entertaining and controversial if every year nba's playoffs 4 team, euroleague's final 4 and some other nation's league's final 4 compete against each other for World Champions crown.
That like English premier league teams playing Msl. Why would nba fans want to see that. Players who were bad in the nba like Shane larkin become super stars in the euro league

Remember back in the 30’s when England refused to play in the soccer World Cup because how could anyone even consider themselves better? It was a foregone conclusion, so they said, that England would crush anyone, so why even go to the tournament. @@chrisbee9643 that is just because there are so many Canadians there that would apologize afterwards. Also it may help the fact that NHL teams had lost several series to Russian teams in the 70's-90's. Actually, in hockey they do know that some European nations do have very competitive leagues as well (which doesn't happen in more "completely US based" sports like baseball or "football", in basketball the big growth in competitivity elsewhere is mostly recent with the creation of Euroleague as stated in the video).
I really wanna see it get settled. The first time I saw the "World Champions" title being used by the NBA champs, I find it weird since there are no flags being represented there and they were only playing in a domestic league. About time to settle this. Best ball clubs in the world duke it out to see who's the best.
Yeah, no flags are being represented for each team, but technically that statement is partially incorrect as well. The NBA (as well as other American sporting leagues) do have our country's national anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) be played before EVERY game, regardless of whether it's the postseason or not (and if the Toronto Raptors are playing, the Canadian anthem plays too). I personally find it to be an odd tradition that's dated back to WW1, because you never see this in Europe for the UEFA Champions League (You never hear the anthems of the UK, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, etc. in that event). I don't know how anthems are like in the EuroLeague but many Americans' arrogance and patriotism, especially for the NBA, just boggles my mind, AS AN AMERICAN MYSELF, quite a bit on many occasions.
Don't know about UEFA, but even in small primary school volleyball and Basketball tournaments we had our national anthem played. Also considering the NBA is literally named a national association, naming themselves world champions is ridiculous. It's like Jamaicans in the Usain Bolt era decided their national champion in sprint is to be a world champion by default ”because they're the best anyway". Lol, it doesn't work like that. You might be a favourite for a title, yet you still need to earn it to claim it.
*NBA and Euroleague Clashing would make such a fuss just like Copa Libertadores with UEFA Champions League* ...Gold tier entertainment there hope we'll live to see it happening!
The explanation is simple: the NBA isn't basketball, it has different rules. When you get used to NBA rules, things often go south when going back to playing the actual game.
Would you mind explaining how so? Like, what rules are so different that they make a "new game"? I don't know anything about basketball, but I don't assume they have something like lowered hoops there or anything, do they?
@@Dormazain look at it this way, many plays that are taken from granted in the NBA in FIBA rules are considered a rule violation. Eg in NBA we take for granted not counting grab and shooting steps.

In the NBA, even the worst team in the league can beat the best team on any given night just because of the nature of the game. The vast majority of the time the NBA team wipes the floor with the others.
I'd like to add some more info to this video regardless of the fact it's almost a year old now. There's a tournament called the FIBA Intercontinental Cup which WAS a Club World Cup of Basketball, but no NBA teams wanted to play, in fact 2 universities played throughout the competitions history and won it 4 times... compared to the other 32 winners. As of now the Basketball Champions League winner plays instead of the Euroleague winner, and the US representative is the G-League Ignite team. Who haven't even reached the final once.
And the actual champion is Franca from Brazil, they won the final against Bonn that was the fiba europe champion and german champion. It expands the subject to other contries out Europe too .
So what you’re saying is that a bunch of college kids who mostly play 1-2 years together (atleast the good ones who move on to the nba) were able to win a tournament against over seas pros ? That’s embarrassing put any college team in the nba and they won’t make the playoffs
Imagine adding the Denver nuggets, Celtics and okc to that tournament. No one would win but them it would be unfair. Especially since it won’t be these friendlys this dude is boasting about where the nba doesn’t care
FIBA already has Intercontinetal Cup for year, but currently Europe is represented by Fiba Champions League title holder (which is together with Eurocup 2nd tier continetial competition in Europe) , USA by G league Champion, Latin America by Basketballl Champions League Americas champion, Africa by BAL champion and Asia by Chinese title holder. So NBA, Euroleague (for info, Euroleague and Eurocup from 2000 are not controlled by Fiba, if you did not know) and Australian-New Zealand NBL league champions are missing. In our perspective as Brazilians, this issue is reminiscent of the "Copa Toyota" controversy, also known as the Intercontinental Cup. In this tournament, the champion of the Copa Libertadores (which, by the way, excludes teams from Central and North America) faced the champion of the UEFA Champions League in a single match. After this single game, the winner was considered the world champion. Currently, the FIFA Club World Cup includes champions from continental leagues as representatives, and there are still plans for changes to give this tournament a championship format. In my view, this would provide more fairness in the "world champion" matter.

That's because in the NBA they're franchises, European teams are teams that have more and even more years of history, culture and tradition and many time (like Real or Barcelona) are owned by fans, or in the case of CSKA, was workers owned being the club of the central soviet army until 1992. And many Greek teams were fan owned until recently with over +60 years of history at least. For instance franchises move from cities, or just buy new rosters completely. And that makes them behave more like when your local supermarket chain puts a new store in another place and tries to reach a market by attracting customers.
The Euroleague is the fundamental game of basketball and the NBA is hero basketball and not to mention the offensive advantage, and that's why Luca said that it's easier to score in the NBA, because you basically can't do anything as a defender, you just have to Get out of the way and literally observe.
Dallas will be playing against Real Madrid in preseason game. Real Madrid is the current Euroleague Champions so this game will be exciting for sure. Luka against his former team, I'm sure he is hyped up because this is like homecoming game also him and Tavares has already played each other in World Cup it's like a rematch with different teams.
It's interesting that only the Americans seem to call themselves world champions without playing other countries' teams. They do it in baseball as well (and that's the official title - world series), when the Japanese have actually proven themselves able to compete. The problem after that is that the Americans then seem insistent that playing any sort of world championship match would be insulting or it wouldn't match their season or something. I'm sorry, but you can't call yourselves the world champions without playing any other teams and then laugh off any offers to prove that you're world champions.

@@matthewmartin7391 playing a soccer match is much more taxing on the body. you probably spend (way) more time on the field and need to do a lot more running. so it balances out.
@@janthecoo4964 not really, nba players play a maximum of 135 games a season if they go all the way and have to constantly be running and jumping in an explosive manner with barely any rest days most times being just a 1 day rest. Where in soccer you have up to a week for league games and midweek for domestic and continental competitions.
So they have better recovery as for actual gameplay footballers have a more tedious cardiovascular challenge however in terms of frequency of injury the nba is a lot more injury prone as players are constantly jumping putting incredible pressure on there knees which is already bad with a tall persons high center of gravity compared to a footballers lower center of gravity and heightened lower body strength.

I would love to see something like the club world cup we see in soccer. Hopefully FIBA can organize something like that so that there is actual competitive basketball played between different continents.
FIBA actually already has a tournament like this. It's called Intercontinental Cup
Would NBA clubs even attend if it's played under FIBA rules? It's easier to say you are world champion just because.

In my view, this would provide more fairness in the "world champion" matter.
absolutely correct my brazilian friend
Yeah, the intercontinental was really outdated. It belong to the times when only Europe and South America had strong clubs, and it wasn't even correct in the territories. It's good they changed it. But hey, at least there was a cup. No one claimed to be World Champion just because.
your copa libertadores winner got slapped 4 zip by a team without its two best players. those north and central american teams would not change aynthing to that
@@reinoutvanrespaille6217 Your analysis is quite superficial, considering that a team from Asia and two from Africa have reached the final. Excellent video, only thing wrong I could find was around the 8 minute mark when you say the Premier is the best football national league. It isn't. The only reason people claim it is is because it's the English league, which makes it more internationally accessible and have more "history" to itself.
The best league is the Spanish "LaLiga". It has the best teams with the most international titles along with the best players in the world.
No. It’s statistically the EPL. Anecdotally, from players and managers, it’s the EPL.
La Liga is not the force it once was, since the EPL is benefitting from much higher revenue

what makes that win% stat kinda crazy to think of as well is that most of those games were against top NBA teams. They won an average of about 35-40% of their games against some of NBA's BEST teams. Think how their record would improve if they were to play every team in the NBA.

The same story can be seen on international team level as well. The FIBA World Cup for national teams hasn't been won by a north american team since 2014, with the last winner being Germany in 2023 and Spain in 2019. The US did not even make into the top 3 in each of those tournaments respectively. A European team is also tied for most titles overall with the US team (formerly Yugoslavia/now Serbia)
This has nothing to do with NBA and club basketball.

The "argument " is about NBA champions and not National

You need to chill on the 2010 Lakers, they won a grueling 7 game series against the celtics playing through injuries, going through the stacked western conference, and earning the 1st seed in a 82 game regular season. Now you have them traveling to Europe during their off season to play a game of basketball against a team they have little to no experience against. if there's something american nba tams definetly should learn about european clubs is to make good club badges. my god the nba badges look just like some kind of soda or snacks label
