I personally think it's due to the Internet and social media. Sites like reddit allow us to easily stratify ourselves into subgroups and echo chambers. Combine this with the power of the algorithm and no ethical oversight to stop it and you have the recipe for what we see today.

Everyone in this country is searching for an Authentic identity. The self realization of who you truly are and how to communicate that to the world. Social Media and Old media have both created this amorphous model of success that has VERY little to do with building relationships or collaborating ideas...you know, the keys to success. Unattainable goals set before the everyday person, cast in an unrealistically positive light, with ZERO consideration or explanation of the challenges, hardships, and broken relationships required to attain those levels of success. Not to mention a continued effort by the corporate class to keep underpaying for labor so that houses are stuck with needing 2 incomes, relying on the public education system to make more workers for them. This present undo stress to "couple" far too young, the public education system is where creativity and self esteem go to get crushed by the rude wealthy kids and abusive poor kids, and now they are just hog pens for mass shooters because our government won't do a god damn thing about the gun problem in this nation. It is not hard to see EVERYONE searching for a place to belong, and most groups keep having this gatekeeping mentality...so sad.

I feel like they missed the reason some incels are upset about this. Many incels groups buy into the idea that being an incels means you will be alone forever and you have 0% chance of changing that. It means that the "blame" for them being incels is not on them. Having a fellow incel find love and leave the community not only feel like a betrayal to them socially but also challenges the convenient idea that there is nothing they can do to not be incel. It's a lot easier than having to acknowledge your own flaws and work on yourself.

I get that when you’re depressed and in a dark place it’s easy to get stagnant, I’m currently in such a place myself and have been for 3 years, but I’m always gonna keep fighting to get out and seek change. And yeah, sometimes the depression is so bad that you loose hope and don’t have the strength to fight, but you gotta hold on to any strength you do have left in you and try and move towards a better future.

I find it amazing how many people are so old before losing their virginity now. When i was growing up we didnt have the internet and social media was you talking to the tv. But i remember growing up and i think we all would have exploded if we lost our virginity after the age of like 16. I remember what it was like at those ages, i was ready to fuck a hole in the wall. I don't remember how old i was, but i lost my virginity the summer break between 7th and 8th grade. I could not imagine being 24 and not having gotten any, my son was 4 by the time i was 24.
Anyway, i see people living on the internet and i think this is playing a huge role in this, they're not going out and socializing personally with others and as a result i dont think people are picking up on the things they should.

THIS is actually part of how I turned away from the right to the left. The right got me with the incel and anti-feminist shit. The left absolutely needs an actual effort to attract men. The 2020 elections had the highest gender gap and the GOP, however horrible it is, understood and panicked about their low votes among unmarried women. As a single guy on the left, I wish more of the leadership and media figures looked into this problem.
With their abortion debacle, I expect their support among unmarried women has continued to decline.

The problem with incels is they feel the most attractive women should have to have sex with them. They see women as pieces of meat who they should have an entitlement to. This is the 'movement' I believe the guy spoke of. If they concentrated on their personality, and the personality of women around them instead of the perceived attractiveness, got rid of their bitterness and hatred, they wouldn't need to be part of a toxic community.

There is hope ahead. My husband was involuntary celibate until late 20's. I'm his second wife. He's a lovely guy, intelligent, funny, kind. He only needed a little bit of confidence to be able to approach and talk to a woman at work and they ended up dating. We met over similar interests.
I know it can be so difficult- my husband has told me about what he went through back then, and how he felt including bitterness, anger and severe depression. He just wanted any woman to see him for who he is, which is a great guy. I hope you can build your confidence and find someone special.

The whole movement is based on desperately clinging to one's fear of the necessity to develop a growth mindset around your life and your choices. These are men who are TERRIFIED to even lift a finger or evolve past a middle school mindset, because of a combination of personality flaws and the mixed messaging (entitlement, toxic masculinity, insecurities about vulnerability) they receive from pop culture and the media- and it manifests as this dangerous hatred of women simply living their lives as emotionally capable human beings. They need serious help in a number of ways, even aside from the fact that they're corroding society with this doctrine of foolishness and misogyny, generally. This phenomenon should put our society on high alert that a number of things are seriously wrong and that men are literally falling through the cracks to become the personification of this culture's worst shadow messaging and hateful propaganda, but nothing is being done about it. At the very least, we need to expand mental health care accessibility immediately so that lonely individuals have at least SOME chance of talking to professional who can counter delusional thinking and help dissuade young boys on lonely message boards from abandoning all decency and reason or cutting themselves off from ever experiencing healthy relationships. It's really pretty sad, as much as it is infuriating.

The issues with incels is not that they arent getting laid. It's their community that's an issue. The community promotes bitterness and resent as John pointed out. Since the dawn of time, some men have had a hard time getting laid. Not all of them go around joining groups that teach them they are owed sex and that their downfalls are everyone else's fault. It's the ones that join these groups and take on their ideology that are dangerous. Why don't they create a community that actually helps them and doesn't make women fear for their lives?

Maybe comprising an entire movement around a temporary status isn't a strong foundation.
I actually host a men's support group. We do NOT encourage toxic behavior or masogenistic ideologies. We support each other in our lives and discuss the challenges society puts on men. We support our women and work toward healthy lives and relationships. These "incell" groups are disgusting and perpetuate all the problems men face.

That's how it should be. People who identify as incels won't find peace in being hateful and thinking women are here for the sole purpose of sex. Men should be supporting each other in POSITIVE ways when they are struggling. Not promoting misogyny and violence. I think a lot of it has to do with how society has taught men to think about sex and relationships with women.

If being an incel becomes your identity and you form a community out of it and it's important to you to remain an incel to be a part of your community - then you aren't an incel, because you're doing it voluntarily, and the _in_ in incel is for involuntarily.

I've been married for 32 yrs so I've been out of the loop for a while. Guys who had this problem in the 80s didn't seem to blame women they tried to figure out the problem they had and try to fix it ,not turn to hating women. This seems to be a bigger problem of blaming other people for something you can fix then hating someone because they don't do what you think they should do. A group who feels sorry for themselves is one thing but hating people who don't do what they want is another story.
