I am canadian, i broke my ankle in hawaii on vacation and had to go to the ER. The bill for my xrays, fluids, sedation required to reset my ankle and having an ortho set my ankle, was 10 thousand usd. If we didnt have travel insurance , that would have created enormous financial pressure on us. I then flew home, had surgery the morning after arriving at the hospital, stayed in the hospital several nights. Cost to me was zero dollars. Do we have an overburdened system? Yes. But i was not bankrupted by my surgery and hospital stay- that helped with my mental health and also being able to access rehab for my injury. Having health care so expensive and tied to employment is not good for your average american and I feel very confident saying this.

It really bugs me when people do the "keep politics out of it!" crap. Anything important is political. It's just how things are. And if you don't see a certain issue as political, that's all the more reason to get involved because you have less to lose in comparison to people who are more directly affected.

a walkable city is essential, parks (safe parks) and recreations, bikes lane, share bike program, public transport ..... people need to let go of their car and if they do without going to the gym they can easily loose 5 to 15 pounds. it's crazy how just walking from point A to B can make a difference in general health. Also rethink gym class in school and high school and add more time in the school program. a fit society is where the government (yes it is political) from the municipality (cities) to the state and-or provinces to the federal to vote laws or fond programs that will help the general population to have better environments to be more active and eat better etc. In Montréal for the last 4 to 5 years the city add- build thousands of bike lane, and we have a share bike program. People complained, news were making a big thing about it how people hated it well, the mayor was re-elected and now they say some bike lane are ''satured'' like their is too many bikes!!! people are now investing in bikes instead of cars and that happened in 5 years of course Montréal is one of the safest cities in North America

The reason why college is so expensive truly is because of student loans. The government allowed student loan companies to go private and essentially allow them to profit as much as possible. Whilst the government continues to guarantee the loans. And because the universities work directly with the lenders, they can change whatever they want for tuition, because no matter what, they will get their money. The best way to bring down the cost of college is to steer clear from student loans. Unfortunately that is probably never going to happen. It is more possible than people think. Community college for a couple years, work a job to pay for tuition, and make applying for scholarships your second full time job.
The raw milk trend is so wild. I think in America if people want to drink raw milk, they have the right to do so. However, it is wildly unethical, and actually dangerous to promote it as something other people should do. You can look at the dairy related deaths to infants before pasteurization and the deaths afterwards. Clearly pasteurization works.
What I don’t hear talked about at all is how milk isn’t even meant to be consumed by adults. And that isn’t just some vegan, feminist, libtard theory. Milk is meant to help baby mammals grow. This is why most adults don’t even have the enzyme to digest milk.
I do struggle with healthcare being universal, only because of how unhealthy we are in this country. I agree with all the points you made, but unless we actually implement solutions, we will continue to be overweight and unhealthy as a nation. And everyone who is healthy will be paying astronomical prices to subsidize everyone else. I think until we can actually make America healthy, universal healthcare will never happen. I’m not an expert on medications like Ozempic, but from what I have learned so far, I do think it has a lot of benefits when it comes to people doing a 180 on their health.
I’m sorry my comment is so long. I don’t expect anyone to read this. 🙈

You touched on it, but an (over)simplified barrier to good health maintenance is TIME. Getting healthy (for MOST people) is not especially difficult... it's just exceedingly time-consuming. Life gets in the way: after the responsibilities of family, work, school, chores, and so on, many folks just don't have the time - let alone the energy - to dedicate to proper nutrition and a fitness program. Soooooo much easier and faster - and probably cheaper! - to order a pizza than it is to season and roast up some chicken and vegetables... which also requires a trip to the store if not already in the home. It takes TIME to exercise, to shop for and prepare healthy meals, and to do the proper research on what you're putting in your body and what you need to put your body through. There are other factors, but people latch on to fad diets and specious get-fit-quick exercise programs, zany health claims ("seed oils bad", etc), and so on because folks just don't have - or don't take - the time to do their own research... it's so much faster and more convenient to take their info from their favorite celebrities and influencers.
Speaking from experience, when time is no longer a limiting factor, getting one's health in order becomes so much more accessible. I firmly believe it's people's inability OR unwillingness to take/make the time that inhibits their ability to positively impact their health. Some people truly can't - they're burning the candle at both ends, life has just overburdened them with other priorities, etc. But it can't be ignored that laziness and avoidance of stress/discomfort isn't in play for some - I was guilty of that myself! Exercise is hard, clean eating isn't particularly fun (at the start, anyway). And ironically enough, it takes even more TIME to see and feel the benefits of all that time invested - weeks/months of dedication. People want immediate results... but it's a marathon, not a sprint. TIME IS THE FIRE IN WHICH WE BURN.
    Also: "28% - that's way less than half. That's like... a quarter." - Temple University, everyone! :P

This is an area in which I have interest & expertise, & I agree with 92% of what you have to say. The zoning laws in the US, the unbridled greed of the universities, & the lobbies are things you barely touched on, but you have nailed the general issue & they are definitely a problem.
Healthcare in the US is less of a capitalism problem & more of a cronyism issue. For example, you & I & most doctors are all small businesses, the backbone of commerce here (capitalism in the personal sense). Insurance companies, giant healthcare conglomerates, & congresspersons engage in something less resembling capitalism & more resembling back room deals, which is a risk of every corrupted economic system. It’s complicated & covers decades of increasing corruption, but the history of how we got here today is very much government + corporations scratching each other’s backs.
I don’t know if the USA could ever manage true universal healthcare OR a true competitive market at this point because the webs of special interest are so strong & it’s awful, it’s absolutely terrible.

However. One thing I really couldn't wait to get back to was chilled eating. I just always felt so much pressure to finish up and order dessert or get out (even though the waiters were always lovely about it 😅) and THEN still needed to add 18% + tax to my bill 😐
The first thing i did when I got back home was linger at a restaurant, eat slowly and just enjoy. For 3 hours. Just sitting there and chatting. (With minimal tipping, and tax included 😉).

Yes, it is political, and that's okay! Thank you for drawing attention to these things, and for being transparent about which things you are qualified to authoritatively on and which things you are less qualified to speak on (but still have a right to express your opinions about). I have multiple chronic illnesses, and there are so many financial, environmental, and social factors that contribute to my suffering and isolation. 😢 (One thing I'd love to see is clean air standards, specifically for indoors. Things like regular testing for mold, monitoring CO2 levels, mandating high quality HEPA air filtration in public places, and in some places ultraviolet disinfecting light.)

Justina you hit the nail on the head!! Im super passionate about building community spaces (my husband calls me a serial extrovert 😂) and one of the biggest ways i do that is thru volunteering at my library and book clubs. The underfunding of libraries is so real and im very privileged to even have the time to volunteer and engage in these clubs while working a full time job. Something else always has to be sacrificed, however, to maintain this in our current society (I work a 9-5). I agree we are so focusing on the wrong things. Stop making tiktoks yelling at people in supermarkets for buying cheetos and start holding lobbyists and corporations responsible for their greed that makes a healthy life unrealistic for a vast majority of our people!!! We are always going after the wrong people. We need community and compassion. ❤

Yes, to the library being a third space, but my library also has really restricted hours. The only day of the week that I could go chill after work is Tuesdays, and I work an 8-5. And yes, as others have said, everything is political, even the library, as it's publicly funded.

Nutrition? Let’s talk about food deserts and access to AFFORDABLE, healthy foods in rural areas and impoverished areas of large cities, etc. A gas station should NEVER BE the only option someone had for groceries. Don’t get me started on our awful health insurance mess.

See, your remarks are too common sense!! It's not as sexy and simple as, seed oils and red dye number 40 are the source of all your problems!!! Also, try my product instead, it's only three easy payments of something-something ninety nine!!! Totally agree with all the points you made, especially Universal Healthcare and reforming our infrastructure and food subsidies to promote healthier living (other countries have managed this, it's possible!! Although probably easier in urban areas vs. rural.) I would really like to see lobbying reform -- it shouldn't be the case that the most powerful and monied interests get the influence and the rest of us get ignored. Our government should hear and consider all of us, not just corporate interests!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! Hopefully it breaks through to some people that the MAHA movement!! Then again, I just saw my Yoga studio advertise a new parasite cleanse and I despaired a bit. The woo is too pervasive!!

I don't understand the logic of going to someone's TH-cam channel/video and telling them what to say. To me, that's like me going to someone's house and telling them what they can and can't say. If I don't like it, I can just leave lol
I completely agree with what you said about nuance. Unfortunately, I do think there are a lot of counterarguments to suggestions for improvement. For example, I heard a while ago that fast food isn't a problem because eating fresh (raw) veggies and fruit are a quick grab and go thing. I think more times than not, the point gets lost with counterarguments. Yes, there are always choices that people make. However, people are not encouraged, incentivized, or directed towards making a healthier choice most of the time. People are not as self-motivated and self-motivated as we would like to believe. The reality is if we make the healthy choice easier and the unhealthy choice harder, people will more likely do the healthy thing because it's easier.

    • @JustinaErcole

Love your channel and so love this message and your delivery of it!! RFK is a huge mistake IMO, beginning with the fact that he is in mo way shape or form a medical clinician, epidemiologist, nor any kind of educated and experienced public health official. In addition to traditional k-12, college and advanced degree institutions, the populace needs common sense education re health that is readily accessible. I can talk until I’m blue in the face about healthifying one’s eating habits, strength training, screening for diabetes, etc etc and I get crickets. They don’t know, they don’t care, there is a pill for cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight loss, etc so self-responsibility goes out the window in lieu of that pill, let alone taking a walk or lifting a dumbell!! 🤦🏻‍♀️Rant over!! I hope your video goes viral!! 🩷

I know we don’t agree on politics, but I love your content and enjoyed hearing your perspective on this. The MAHA movement drives me insane. I’m a nurse and the low quality health in our country is not due to seed oils and food dyes, but no one who is sold on MAHA will hear any of it. I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot of people are very privileged in their thinking on health and it’s hard for them to see outside their own situations.

People didn’t slow down for me. I had to call my husband to come pick me up because I was afraid I was going to get hit.

Great video! I think education about a complete/well balanced meal is something that's not taught anymore. I'm 45 and when you made a video about it I realized I've never been taught that. My mother would try to do that at meals but it was more 1 meat, 1 bread, and 2 sides, but it wasn't discussed and I've forgotten over the years. (I live alone and don't cook too.)
(I commented once that I wish ppl would leave politics out of channels that don't normally discuss it but the context was different. I felt a ltl attacked as I voted for Trump and it felt like a them vs us vibe. This video was different and I agree with your points.)
I live outside of Chattanooga TN and you have to drive no matter where you go, plus it's hot as hell half the year too. I never get over 5k steps.
(Oh, Layne Norton explained that studies have shown that seed oils like canola are actually associated with a lower risk of heart disease. I'd love for the known carcinogens and toxins & unnecessary food dyes to be phased out. Europe won't import our food due to safety, and Canada gets a version of Fruit Loops without chemical dyes, use beetroot juice for color.)
Also, I've recommended your channel to people a lot, in comments on other ppl's videos too. You might find it if you search your name.
Edit- I've talked to ppl in Europe and Canada, UK about their national health care and I think it's a good idea, but we don't have enough dr's even now, but add 15x the ppl making appts and you'd never get in. We need to get more dr's in the pipeline NOW to get that started. Maybe make med school more affordable.)

Aajonus Vonderplanitz suggests using only cold pressed olive oil in his old book 'We Want to Live: The Primal Diet'. DeLauer's video 'The Shocking Ingredients in McDonalds French Fries' with Saladino confirms it. I added some sunflower oil to cook a few months ago, now I regret it. Also, seed oils can screw your omega-3 to omega-6 ratio.
I'm not a big fan of fiber, I tend to focus on sodium-potassium ratio nowadays. Sometimes I eat pumpkin or a banana, but eating beef liver is better in that regard.
