- In this BBB Calls Scammers video, Julie returns a voicemail she received from "AT&T" offering 50% off her current plan. An automated message answers, asking for Julie's 4-digit pin number OR the last 4 digits of her social security number. Nice try, scammers!

They are really doing a loan scam alot now I guess the gift card scams. aren’t working that much anymore and they pretend to be the BBB on some of the scams grrr😖
@@yeldaRooBTKAM yes as soon as one scam runs it course another is right behind, but there are more and more scambaiters out there showing us the new scams so we can educate our family and friends, I call my mom and others everytime I hear a new one.ppl can go to there local care centers etc and educate there too. These scams need to be on the news more, because the elderly like to watch the news and aren’t really on social media
i have Spam alets made by At%t, and they always come up Monday throu Friday around 5am till 5pm..
Try calling the incoming phone number a see what results you get.

I got a call the other day saying I qualified for my student debt to be forgiven. Big topic in the new these days. But I knew it was a scam because I have no student debt. But I worry that other people might be fooled. Keep fighting the fight Julie!

When I was in high school, I would receive calls from debt collectors. I had no debt and no money to my name.

I watch alot of diff scambaiters everyday and I can tell it is making a difference, scammers are getting paranoid not knowing if it’s a baiter or a real victim.

I've gotten a similar call to this, but it's the classic "just send us a check for the small convenience fee of just $280, to this P.O. Box, and your cable bill will be zero dollars for the next three months." When I questioned the P.O. Box number and said "why don't I just send the check to the address on my provider's bill, and they can forward it to you if they need to", the guy got really pissed ("but that's not the right department!"), told me he's going to black out my cable (which I don't even have BTW), and I was to "go to hell". I said OK thanks, bye.
I have gotten calls like this. Usually they have spoofed the real number of the company so I call the company to verify the number if it is one on theirs. 😀😀

The scam that's gotten worse and worse are the real estate scams. People spoofing numbers, pretending to be agents, then in order for them to buy your house for cash, you send them a few gift cards or give them your credit card.
I had a voice mail yesterday that if I did not call back, an arrest warrant would be issued. I never called back, blocked the number and oh yea, the police never showed up...

I get calls like these on a *weekly* basis. I always let them go to voicemail and I never return the calls. I would say this: Anytime you get a call that is coming from one number on your caller I.D. and asking you to call back on a completely different number, that's a BIG RED FLAG. Anytime anyone asks you for ANY information (i.e., last four digits of your SS#, PIN number, address, name, etc.) that's also a huge red flag. Do not give out ANY information; call back the business who is claiming to call you using a number you obtain independently before giving out any information.

I received a call very similar to yours. The difference being that I am not a customer of ATT nor do I have their internet.
They use your last 4 and your ATT info to access the ATT information to look up your data

I have gotten a couple calls like that over the past couple of months and immediately realized it is a scam. Got rid of my landline a few years ago to not have to deal with those scam calls. There should be laws to deter that scammer activity.
Frankly, I don't need outstanding content from Julie to watch her vids, despite the fact that I wallow in it. Why? For the simple reason that I am madly in love with this brilliant, creative, talented, productive, entertaining, effective and utterly gorgeous young woman. Next question?

I have ceased to use one of my mobiles cell phone as all I get are scammers
I just got this call about 2 hours ago on my landline (Madison WI). How timely!
And we have ATT as well. Going to change that pw too!
One of our employees also received a voicemail, and they aren't even an AT&T customer!
@@BBBWisconsin , I get this call at least once a week, and I love to mess with them, I give them a phony pin # and when they say that it's wrong and I'm lying to them I reply, " right and you're really from AT&T and you're not lying to me ? " , they can't hang up fast enough ... ha ha . But on a serious note, if you're not sure and it sounds phony, just hand up, NEVER EVER give them any personal info. The sad part is that you can block the phone # but they have literally millions of phone #'s to use and once they have your # they will always call with a different scam.
Alberta Canada. Just had a call on cell phone, guy with East Indian accent said he was calling for Telus. I asked what does Telus want. Some "promotion such and such smart phone". Told him I have a flip phone not smart phone. He could offer such and such price. Told him why would I pay that when I have had mine forever and it is free and I don't need a computer on my phone. Byebye. Then got a computer voice call saying I had only so much time to press 1 to get the special credit card rate. Must be scammers day for calling.
Regarding AT&T, I used to have them for my land line. It was ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to get a human being on the phone when the line had problems. Now I have no land line.
I had the same encounter but heard a Punjabi male chatting faintly in the background saying to his mate
"It is not so." (my translation)
Context was not clear but what was clear was that their native tongue was Punjabi.
Another call center claiming to be "AT&T DirecTV" offers 50% discount if paid by eBay gift cards (first 6 months lump sum).
This second call center does not use AI bot.

I've been getting this call on my cell recently, the newest scam. I have spam shield, but sometimes they get through that.
Call back and just give a random set of four digits.

My impression there are 10 times more scam calls in the US than in Germany. Last week I had 3 per day on my landline, without leaving any message - this week none. And never on my cell phone fortunately so far.
I always answer the phone now hoping it's a scammer.

All service companies sell customer basic information. Not hard to get.
I just got this call a few minutes ago here in N.E. Ohio.
Be nice if I could talk to a live person and lead them on but since I saw your video a few hours ago, I'll just block it.
Why not call ATT dirAT and T direct to find out if this is a real scam andmake sure they are or not offering a discount.
Coulda made up a number just to see if it would have gotten you connected.
You should have made up a passcode and seen if it worked, just to get into talk to someone.
I had to pause this video @2:29 because I was ROTFL! This ROBOTIC machine sounded IDIOTIC---especially with the incorrect responses it gave!

You could have had a little more fun with this one Julie, give them letters instead of numbers for the passcode, say "1 2 3 4" in the end, just to keep the gag going. Obviously they are trying to filter out people who don't want to provide this information before one of their support 'specialists' take on the call.

This is the police( garbled, the phone was showing a pop up that I should read the booklet, and I was trying to switch to speaker phone) and we need to go over some details with you. Please stay on the line and we will take your information ( or something like that) if you do not we will be forced to take legal action.
This was upsetting and I thought of some videos that I had viewed by a Virginia attorney basically don't talk to the police. You're not being rude etc. So I hung up. Then it occurred to me that watching those videos had got me on a list or something although hopefully I had nothing to fear. Still he had said it doesn't matter if you have done nothing wrong, it's still not in your best interests to talk etc.and it's not rude.
So I was hoping it was a scam or at least that I had not heard the word police( this is the police etc.)
So I was very relieved to hear about some scams, some of it is very entertaining and also some of those scams could really hurt. Thanks.
I've gotten this call and i don't use that company
This sounds sketchy - Never giver personal info to anyone calling you that you are unaware of who is calling.
However please note - I recently called AT&T's direct number - To setup new tv service. And I 100% got a person on there that sounded extremely close to scammers I interviewed (Scambaited), in the past, including phrases like 'Do Von Ting' and so on. though this person was a legitimate AT&T representative.
Major companies are outsourcing to India's call centers. And they have similar education to those scammers out there. The best thing to do on this is always call the service providers legal full numbers, ask them about promotions you heard about, if they said they never heard of it , do not do it.
Also be aware because they outsource to similar countries, just because it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, takes a crap on a pickup like a duck, doesn't always mean it's a duck.
This is a really poor audio response system - no human is actually involved.

Well that was very sketchy that did seem to be a red flag first of all I am not an AT&T customer so they are just calling anyone and Collecting they personal information.
