  • Microsoft technical support scams are a common way for scammers to steal personal and financial information from unsuspecting victims. In this video, Julie calls a reported scam number and shows how you can navigate a similar situation safely. After, she discusses how these scams work, how to spot them, and how to protect yourself.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft technical support, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself:
Don't give out any personal information. Scammers will often ask for your credit card number, Social Security number, or other personal information. Do not give out any of this information to someone you do not know and trust.
Hang up the phone. If you are suspicious of the caller, simply hang up the phone. You can always call Microsoft back on a number you know is legitimate.
Check the caller ID. Scammers may spoof the caller ID to make it look like they are calling from a legitimate Microsoft number. However, you can always check the caller ID to make sure it is legitimate.
Beware of pop-up messages. Scammers may also try to trick you into clicking on a pop-up message that claims to be from Microsoft. Do not click on any pop-up messages that you are not sure about.
Do your research at BBB.org. BBB has an extensive database full of accurate business information, so you can double check to see if a phone number or address doesn't match up. You can also find helpful resources like this one: www.bbb.org/ar...
If you think you have been scammed by Microsoft technical support, there are a few things you can do:
Change your passwords IMMEDIATELY. Scammers may have gained access to your personal information, so it is important to change your passwords for all of your online accounts.
Report the scam to Microsoft. You can report the scam to Microsoft by going to their website and filing a report.
File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC can help to investigate and prosecute scammers. You can file a complaint with the FTC online or by mail.
Report the scam to BBB Scam Tracker: BBB.org/ScamTracker

Hi Julie …nice to see some more scammer videos. It would be really cool if BBB participated in the people’s call center next year with Scammer Payback. One of the big bosses from Anydesk was there this year and he was calling scammers with the guys, he even live-streamed a couple of scambaiting sessions.

It can be scary to get one of these pop-ups which make your computer unresponsive, especially as they usually include a warning not to restart your computer. When this happened to me, I was shocked but I realised it was a scam and I did not phone the number. Instead I held down the power button to turn off the computer. When I turned it back on later the pop-up had disappeared and everything was working normally again.

    • @nononsenseBennett

Yes. Just turn off the computer, restart. If it doesn't fix it, keep doing that. Eventually it will unlock and the computer will work again. These sites should be sued for harassment and time wasted by its victims.

Once they get connection with the 1st remote software. They can install other remote control software what you do not see. That is what a lot of scam baiters do not tell you. If you do connect to these scammers just removing the 1st ultraviewer or anydesk, does not guarantee that the scammers do not still have access to your computer, and unless you are computer savvy, you will still need to take your computer to a reputable computer shop.

    • @NJelBoi
      @NJelBoi หลายเดือนก่อน

That's exactly what they would do, because it comes pre-installed in the OS lol it's the only thing they're allowed to work with because their compony vetted it. Scammers won't use it, because their information can be traced and they know it.

  • @NJelBoi

Here's a tip from a PC Repair person:
When that Microsoft window pops up, either press or hold the ESC button. It then reverts back to normal view mode. Exit the browser, then go back in. DO NOT RESTORE ANY PAGES. Go to settings and clear cookies and cache. Make sure to toggle the drop down menu to "For all time".
It goes without saying, do not call the phone number. If you give them remote access, it bypasses any antivirus software you have on the computer, because it's akin to opening the front door for a burglar. The scam happens after you make 1st contact. The phishing redirect is usually from cached data which is why it's recommended to keep your browsing history regularly maintained. Also make sure to have a good popup blocker extension activated.
Most important tho: Don't contact any phone numbers.

Good grief. You just turned something innocent (that my fiancé and I both laughed at by the way) into something disgusting and sinister. I would never cheat on her.
She has the biggest crush on George Clooney, but just because she finds him attractive doesn’t mean that “her eyes are starting to wonder.”
We do not disrespect each other. I love my fiancé so much. We were supposed to have been married in July of 2019. Unfortunately, we had two horrible things happen. She lost her little sister in a terrible accident.
The same year, I was relieved to have been qualified as a donor of bone marrow that would save my beautiful fiancé’s life.
I literally would have given my heart to her if that’s what it would have taken to save her life.
When she lost all of her hair, and weighed only 92lbs, I was there every day and night after work.
      You know nothing about us.
You can say we live a sinful life all you want. I am the most fortunate man in the world.
Just because she thinks George Clooney is cute doesn’t take anything away from how she views me.
How dare you go around judging people for innocent things.
So go ahead police the comments with your righteousness.
I did nothing disrespectful, nor would I ever. I hope you don’t do that to anyone again, because it’s not your place to judge people like that.
Even after that disgusting response, I forgive you. Maybe you’re just having a bad day.
If you’re really this way outside of the internet, and if you have a partner or are married; I hope you’re the only person they find attractive.
If your morals are that extreme, please let them know of your rule first. Everyone deserves to know that their man or woman must find them to be the ONLY attractive person in the entire planet.
This channel’s content does good things for its community and for places all over the world. The content is amazing, and my comment wasn’t that serious. Lighten up.
      Goodness.

You'll either get a frantic answer or a hangup right at that point. Also, when you are done with the scammers, ALWAYS make them hang up first. That’s not true. While there have been some issues in the past with a few BBB offices ,that’s not how the BBB works. When taking an application for membership, there are very stringent criteria that have to be met in order to become a member. Also if a member breaks the rules they can be denied membership and taken off the rolls. That’s what happened to Mike Lindell, the My Pillow guy. He was required to amend his TV advertising and refused ,so he was no longer able to remain a member and had to take the BBB logo off of his adds.

When you give the scammers in India a hard time they can eventually get pretty vulgar. Some will admit they are scammers and brag about it. It`s sick out there. Lying becomes a way of life for them.

I keep all of my files and downloads on portable and external hard drives. I keep only the programs on the PCs and maybe a few saves of something I am working on (with a backup on portable drives too). That way if something happens to a PC, all of my important data is on separate hard drives. Make sure you have a backup and be very careful with portable hard drives. They can be delicate, especially if dropped or handled roughly. In the old days, I would even burn some (data, photos, files, music) on CDs/DVDs as backups before the external and portable drives were able to handle larger files.
With all the scam baiters out there now, news, and documentaries available to everyone, I'm still shocked to find so many people still falling for these things. Romance, lottery, and computer scams are the most common, but there are so many other ways people can get cheated.

If you let them get access to your pc, you don't have to destroy anything. Just unplug the network cable. Or, if you use wifi, turn off the pc, turn it back on and don't connect to the wifi. They can't use your device if it has no connection to the internet. Depending on how far they got, just uninstalling anydesk or whatever they used to get initial access is not enough. But nothing that can't be fixed. Even if they changed your password, there are ways to get it back. Ask someone you trust to check the PC. Don't allow them to mess with you!

I'm really mean to them... I tell them "You know what should happen to scammers! They should be jailed for decades for scamming people and being POS on the Earth. Don't you agree?" CLICK... one person was hurt and kept talking to me saying "Why would you say such mean things." and I would reply "Because you're a horrible person ripping off innocent people"... and he would pause like I was really hurting his feelings... this went on for 10 min... he actually seemed upset I called him a horrible human being. LOL! Eventually I just said "Look, you're scamming people. That automatically makes you a bad human being." and he finally hung up.
