In this video I will show you how to create real-time fog cards for your open world game. Those fog cards can be used for everything, not only for backgrounds. You can create custom meshes where those cards can be animated and applied.

Inspired by Devon Chiu.
Thanks for the tutorial. I was looking for the Unreal version of the "Images as Planes" addon for Blender, and this is it.
Glad I could help!
Gratitude !! you really stand out amongst other UE tutors.
Thanks. I'm doing my best to bring you good quality content!
Forest are my favorite would love to see an open world with forest made by you
Awesome tutorial!
Is there A way to sequence the start of these media into the sequencer?
Hi, this was helpful but I got stuck at one point. I think there are differences between the version you're using and 5.3--following the exact steps, my card doesn't move and where yours is invisible, mine is tinted darker. Do you know what version differences might cause this?
my blueprint wont drag into the viewport/scene, do you know whats going wrong?
Great tutorial! Fog looks great!
Thanks! If you want to be up-to-date subscribe. A lot or handy stuff are coming on my channel.
The blueprint is just a grey square for me when imported? I also notice in my material refraction is disabled? Thank you :)
Very Nice!
Also make a video on how to populate a big world machine map with grass, flowers and puddles!
Ok. I will!
Great video and resources, thanks for sharing!
I'm happy to help. Thanks for the subscribe and warm comment. A lot more stuff are coming on my channel. I'm just getting started :)
okay so i followed step by step but the image sequence doesnt play, just shows a still frame looking at the media player it looks like the playback is quicker then it can render the frames, any idea how to fix this
Very strange. You can join our discord channel and get help in our big community.
It should work if you did not made any mistakes.
My solution was to export the image sequence at a lower res, If you export them into a folder in the Unreal project ready for packing it will ask to import them, this was going to take all day with high res PNGs. I exported low res Jpegs instead and they imported allot faster. The player finds it hard to play whilst things like Lumin are running.
@@joshuacadogan5174 that didnt work i found for some reason i cant only have spatial samples i need temporal as well so i did 45/45 and that work
wow this was awesome
Awesome tutorial but how can I achieve a seamless loop? I tried bading to black in premier but the media playing in the scene does not fade
Just use a looping smoke effect from some of the video stocks websites. It will be very hard to manually make the loop frame by frame. Not impossible but a lot time consuming.
You need to export images from premiere in .png format with alpha channel to have the transparency on.
@@CGDealers Thanks I figured that much. Thanks for the reply.
Hi! This is great. I"m following the tutorial. But my fog card is just showing me the black color of the alpha. How can I twist it to make it show the actual fog (white Part) this seems to be transparent. and moving the parameters is not making any difference
had the same problem, plugging the footage to into emissive instead of base colour works!
Great tutorial, thanks. Very well explained and very useful. I have a question, if you don't mind. How do you suggest that I trigger the fog to play with sequencer, instead of play?
You need to use blueprints and connect event to trigger it.
@@CGDealers can you please explain how to do it?
By the way, I bought your lesson on using cameras, it helped me a lot too
Impressive! Thank you.
One question. I have a substrate inside my scene, and the material nodes inside the editor differ from yours. Is there a way to make this work?
Thank you, again.
You need to adopt it to substrait whicn can be done for sure!
@@CGDealers Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.
I hope you'll be able to do a tutorial on that topic.
Since it has been known that Substrate is the future of texturing in UE.
How do I do this with regular cloud transparent PNGs?
Yes exactly.
Your tutorial was very helpful to me, can you share the PNG sequence frame animation images you used in the tutorial?
The video files are in the description. You need to convert them to .png with any video software Free or Paid.
@@CGDealers Ok, thanks for your reply
This is so good! Could you make a tutorial on simple grass wind? I'm trying to make a sunflower field, and all the sunflowers need to have a slight sway. I've enabled simple grass wind which is perfect but the middle of the sunflower (the bud) isn't moving with the rest. I've been told this has something to do with world position or something? Would love a tutorial as anything other than Simple Grass Wind looks so confusing!
That is a great idea for the next video!
@@CGDealers Would be great! Thank you :)
i can't seem to find open source in the blueprint event graph
Google it and u will find the node.
thanks mate!
You're welcome!
is there a way to adjust the playback speed
Make a time delta and divide it via node
@@CGDealers do you do it in the material? or the blueprint?
If I work for a game company one day the specialty I want to go into is actually landscape design and level design but I still wish to do a bit of everything as well lol
Pls create UE5 Fps game shooting tutorials? Plsss
There are a lot of videos on that topic.
@@CGDealers But pls Sir You Only create series for that From scratch ps sir ?? 😢😢😢 I liked these videos plss
Can you boost the audio in your videos, bud - your waaay below 'normal' levels. Almost every video editor allows you to fix this in one/two clicks (I'd suggest normalising pretty much to '0'). I'd also suggest taming the sibilance a little (the "S's") - a simple EQ'ing out the high end a little would be perfect. I'm an audio engineer by trade, so sorry, a little more picky that others, but these changes would improve viewer experience.
Fantastic video content and channel, subbed.
I was a bit sick while recording this video. That is why i tuned it down a bit.
I will do this for my next video, thank u for the feedback!
not looping good
Wow, I can see that you almost literally copied my tutorial. The same steps, the same online files used, even some of the nodes you name exactly the same. I'm not saying you cannot do this, but atleast refer to whom you got the inspiration from.. Not cool.
I just checked your video. The process is straight forward and the inspiration that I've got is from "Devon Chiu", not from you. Yes I can confirm that the 2 videos has some common elements but in the end this is workflow which I've been exploring and discussing with Devon. It has nothing to do with you.
About the assets, google search is recommending the assets You and I are using. That is true also. However they are Free. You are making the fog for cinematic purpose, mine is for video games.
Sorry to hear that you feel offended.
I'm adding the "inspiration from" in the video description as you said. I agree on that part that I've missed to mention Devon.
So when I play back the fog cards it looks like it lags or stutters. How do I fix this?
Maybe it's your FPS or you are not using enough frames?
@@CGDealers yeah I figured it was the fps after I posted this. Thanks lol
