The Unplugged version this song was so fucking powerful. As someone who lived this exact situation for a long time, I related very closely with this song. And the emotion he poured into this song.. writing this song had to literally destroy him on some level. And perhaps in a way, singing it helped him moved through it. But you can feel the emotional torture he suffers from the girl he sings this about. A true legendary performance
The whole mtv unplugged performance was amazing...but this specific song stood out (I grew out in a differant environment and didn't hear this until my 30s)
Temple of the Dog wasn't really an Eddie Vedder thing. He sang on Hunger Strike, obviously, and I think backup on another song, but that was a Chris Cornell thing with the band members of Pearl Jam. It was a tribute band/album to Andrew Wood, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone. Wood was Cornell's best friend and roommate and he died of an overdose. A couple of the guys who ended up forming Pearl Jam were in Mother Love Bone. Obviously Hunger Strike has been their enduring single, but the whole album is fantastic.
Now listen to “Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog. Both Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and Chris Cornell (Sound Garden & Audioslave) sing in that. And I love your stuff dude. Easily my favorite TH-cam channel. Cheers.
Can you imagine the fact that Eddie and Chris lived in apartments across the hallway from each other? That's a lot of musical genius in a very small space. Imagine being the neighbors that into those guys everyday going to get the mail.
Funny that you liken him to Nirvana. All those boys (the Seattle scene) were kinda best buds and highly influenced each other. They all played the same gigs and had side bands with one another. It's a huge rabit hole to get into. I mean the history behind them all... you might want to look into Mother Love Bone. They were the back bone of the Seattle scene... they were the first band to break out and then their singer OD'd. that broke the hearts of all the bands in the scene. Candle box wrote Far Behind about Andy Wood (the singer of Mother Love Bone), Members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam got together and formed the super group Temple of the Dog and made an album in support of Andy's family that he left behind.... the bands were featured in a movie called Singles.... but if you're going throught he Pearl Jam songs I would highly suggest Better Man, Oceans, Yellow Ledbetter, Porch, indifference and Garden. Black was actually written about the loss of his first love. Eddie Vedder is amazing at showing pain with his voice.
As good as MLB were, they weren't the "backbone of the Seattle scene" and weren't the first band to break out - several bands had already broken out such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, The Melvins, AiC and Screaming Trees, to name only a few, had already put out records after signing deals and toured. Mudhoney being formed after another band, Green River, had split with Mark Arm forming Mudhoney and Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard forming MLB. ToTD wasn't in support of Andy's family, although i dare say they may have gotten something from the sales, Chris Cornell had written a couple songs about Andy who was his flatmate, and ToTD grew from there as a tribute - AiC's "Would?" is a tribute as well, a play on Andy Woods surname, and in the video the reddish jumper/sweater Layne is wearing was Andy's and was his favourite top.
Someone in the live stream said the singer of The Rolling Stones also sang for The Doors... That is absolutely not true. Mick Jagger sings for The Rolling Stones, always has - to this day. Jim Morrison sang for The Doors until he died, and they never replaced him. Whoever said that in the live stream has no idea what they're talking about. Also, Paint it Black was definitely The Rolling Stones, though many bands have covered it since then.
I was in college in Seattle while all those bands were just coming up, playing at the bagel shop around the corner from my place, etc. A great time to be alive. 😊
@@Elezium wow... I mean, as a fan of the scene I understand where you're coming from. Great music came out of Seattle before MLB you're right. But none of them reached commercial success before them. Green River came close. MLB's audience was greater, and they got signed to a larger label before them. Green River achieved what success they had under an indie label which is huge... but the band had crap luck with touring, multiple line up changes, their 10/85 tour tanked more than likely because their album hadn't even been released by their own label yet. Also, while they played a lot locally (I mean around the Seattle through Portland area), they did not go much further than that which means they did not get as much exposure as the bands that came after them. Then their EP tanked, which is just bad luck. They were ahead of their time with that one. then with their second album they fired their singer for Andy Wood from MLB. They made the album after damned near recording it twice (having fired the singer half way through recording it) and then the band broke up. What success are you talking about? how loved they are? how good they were? no one is disputing those things... I'm also a fan. I'm talking breakout success, hometown boys leave the hood kinds of success. Sure Soundgarden was right there with them at the heels of MLB, as were Nirvana Pearl Jam Mudhoney and AIC. Like I said they were all like bro's. The point I actually made was that Andy (gonna get a little graphic here) was the guy who used to bring thei party to the party with his pills and snortables and injectables... because he was the lvoable guy who was just known to always be "holding". And he was a good friend to those around him becaus ehe was a cuddly ball of love and encouragement. He brought people together and tried to solve their conflicts... sure normally with drugs... but he was Andy... he was fond of drugs... so were most of the rest of them. the scene was riddled with it. But JUST LLIKE Green River, Andy went and blew his shot just as he was at the verge of having it. Only he had gotten just a bit further in that journey than those boys... and instead of just breaking up, and label issues, and being schmucks on tour.... well, he died. I guess that was kinda my point. He was a shining smile in that crowd and was beloved by so many that it moved many of them to make music influenced by him... just syain'. love to you though.🖤🖤🖤
@@davemick7216 Vedder has a thing for covers, they may have been confused... also he eerily kinda looks like Jim... if you squint... after drinking margaritas.
In the early 90s, four bands emerged from the obscure Seattle underground, and took the world by storm. They were: Pearl Jam Nirvana Alice In Chains Soundgarden Collectively, they were known as “Grunge.” And there were other bands as well of course. But this is a starting point. Please check them all out. The world was never the same.
Pearl Jam is my favourite band, and this epic performance is one one of the best of the gringe era. Eddie Vedder's voice, energy and stage presence are so good...Their recent albums are so good, and the next one is supposed to be out this summer...cannot wait for it. You should check ther Pink Pop 1992 Festival performance
Anthony I loooove this song, thank you very much for the reaction, my rock soul vibrates with this song. More Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Bigbang, please 🤟
Pearl Jam and Ten album are epic... I'm 40 and something 😊 and I have been listening their music since my teenage years... MTV unplugged is pure gold... Sending love ... Thx for reaction... My favorite song is EVEN FLOW ... If you could react to that one it would make my day 👋🙃
Such an incredible song and performance by Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam. I LOVE this song… “I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky, but why, why, why can’t it be me” , the grief and heartbreak are palpable. Grunge music in the 90s ❤
I'm watching your chat while you listen to this beautiful song. Evenflow was the song that put them on the map, followed by Alive. He did not sing for The Doors, he was way too young. Pearl Jam was my favorite band in the 90's. Still in my top 10, funny thing the album is called 10.
Pearl Jam unplugged was the best and still is in my opinion!! I recorded that on my vhs and watched it over and over when I was like 13. Got to see them in Reno in 93❤
I was 14 years old when this was featured on MTV (back when MTV had actual music). The album "Ten" was their debut album. That and this unplugged album, literally shaped me. I was in love with this music and still am. Great reaction. Thank you.
Eddie Vedder's voice is unique and one of the best!! I discovered you through REN who is currently my favorite artist by far. And I often said that he's the first musician that I came to love as much as Pearl Jam back when I was a teenager. I loved the whole grunge era but PJ stuck with me forever because of the voice and the topics they sing about. You should definitely check out more!!
So glad you're discovering Pearl Jam! Please check out Evenflow live!! Also Yellow Ledbetter, Jeremy, Porch (PinkPop concert), and Corduroy... all masterpieces! The genre is grunge. This is one of my favorite bands ever!
Hey thank you so much for your reaction ❤I am 57 years old now and this puts me back into old days, sometimes painful but always great. Lots of love from Germany ❤
eddie was in a band with chris cornell (audioslave). temple of the dog was the band, prior to pearl jam and audioslave. cornell and bennington were very close friends i believe. and all of these bands (including nirvana) were all becoming popular around the same time in the early 90s. dave grohl (drummer for nirvana) became singer for foo fighters after cobain died. you may know a lot of this stuff already. great song from chris cornell from his final album before he died is called through the window. worth a listen, even if you dont do "reaction" video
hey Anthony, I’d suggest doing a dive into the album TEN. it was their debut (which also had this song) and it is literally cover to cover hits! “Once” “Evenflow” “Alive” “Why Go” “Jeremy” “Release” “Alive” is based on the true events of the singer, Eddie’s father leaving when he was REALLY young and how he grew up with his mother and step father, who told him his real father died but yet, Eddie found out in his late teens or early 20’s that gos dad was still alive and fine. “Jeremy” is based on the true events also. it was inspired by a newspaper article Eddie read about Jeremy Wade Delle, a high school student who shot himself in front of his English class on January 8, 1991.
Eddie's probably the best music storyteller of my generation. Try "Daughter", "Rearviewmirror", "Better Man", "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town", "Alive" and the continuation of that story "Release". "Porch" at Pinkpop is always fun lol
In summer of 2000 I was at Roskilde Festival where 9 young ppl were killed from being squeezed and trampled in the crowd at a Pearl Jam concert. I will never forget that. I was 18 yrs old and suddently was faced with how fragile life was. The rest of the week of festival had a very special mood and intimate feeling. We all cried so much. For me Pearl Jam has touched a nerve ever since. Sometimes it is a bit too much to face. Other times I need to remember.
That is why I have anxiety going to a concert or being in large crowds. I only went to outside venues and with my son as a teen, who is 6 ft tall and protective. Except for my first concert which was Metallica when I was in high school and I went with my bf at the time and a bunch of friends. Idk why they wouldn’t have security to prevent that from happening
@@ca8944 Well... I understand you... But they did have security... and it was an outside venue... ppl died because 70.000 ppl all wanted to get closer, so they pushed and pushed. The bandmembers were crying onstage pleading for ppl to back up but all those in the rear didn't realize what was happening up front until it was too late. After all this they learned alot about crowd management. Crowd dividing sections came about as a consequence of that night.... But I feel you. Ever since that day I stay in the edge of crowds making sure I always have a way to escape.
Eddie Vedder wrote this song about his childhood sweetheart whom he was very in love with. She left him for someone else. As you can hear in his voice and his facial features it still haunts him. Awsome voice awsome band ❤
This is from their unplugged. The whole unplugged is great. My favorite on the unplugged is Porch. You really have to watch the whole unplugged . When he first sang Betterman on the radio he said I dedicate this song to the bastard that married my mother .Pearl jam is in my top 3 favorites. They are awesome live. Yes they are from Seattle accept Eddie he's from California. So they were part of the Grunge scene. The song you were referring to early is Painted Black from the Rolling Stones . Eddie Vedder the Singer of Pearl jam has sung with the doors and Rem and many other artists. He's so talented. I really love his voice . ❤❤
Porch at Pink Pop is my go to when I feel the need for a PJ high energy fix. Their first real big festival and the adrenaline oozes from them onstage. Offstage for Eddie as well. They finally made it out to Australia after releasing Vitalogy. There was a huge crowd outside the Myer Music Bowl gig in Melbourne and they decided halfway through they wanted in. So they ripped down the cyclone security fencing. Police tried to stop them initially but there was way too many for them. A few thousand or so. We didn't know what had happened but knew something was up when people were coming from everywhere and pushing deep into the crowd so they couldn't get identified. Rock concerts aren't like they used to be haha
Eddie's voice is an amazing instrument. This is grunge, like Nirvana. This particular performance was on MTV's unplugged, Peawrl Jam has a pretty strong sound when they're plugged in.
If you haven’t checked out any MTV Unplugged concerts you should. This, Nirvana and Alice In Chains are all 90s grunge bands ranked in the top 5 performances of the series. They all have that intensity, angst, guitar and deep lyrics that defined grunge. I think you’d love them!
Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam are one of the few Grunge bands that are still around and Eddie is still alive. So many of the popular grunge lead singers are gone.
Love Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam. Check out Eddie and Chris Cornell in Temple of the Dog and their song, “Hunger Strike”. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana were all huge bands during the grunge period of the early 90’s.
Vedder and Cobain were friends, but the music "industry" (allegedly with help from Courtney Love) tried to manufacture nonsense between them. The whole grunge scene was quite incestuous really, because so many of those bands were playing on the same stages and at the same festivals and events. They all kind of came up together. Grunge was absolutely a pivotal moment in music history, in the same way Bowie was pivotal. It completely changed what our understanding of rock music was. There was an honesty to it that we hadn't seen before and it was like the labels had finally worked out that if they let artists do the art and stop meddling it can lead to great things.
This came out a few years before the Nirvana one. This song was a very personal song for Eddie Vedder. He had broke up with his woman and you can hear the heartbreak in his voice. You also need to check out Alice In Chains. Listen to the Unplugged of Nutshell to start off. It is about how the lead singer felt about the music industry, being famous and his drug addiction. 💜💜💜💜💜💜
Love your channel, been ghost watching for a hot minute! lol!!😁 Anyway, while I love your reactions and that u finally experienced this song and Pearl Jam, I have to say OMG.... I am HORRIFIED at the chat. Wth????🙄😅 Seriously and sincerely, as a fan of PJ since their inception in 1991 (I was 20y/o), I can assure you... most in your chat had NO clue what they were talking about. Important for u to know is this is GRUNGE. A sub-genre of rock that was created exclusively in the Seattle underground club/music scene in the 80's thru mid 90's by like-minded, like-hearted artistic souls. Nirvana was the first to hit mainstream. Anyway, that being said, it's important to note that due to the suicide and/or drug overdoses of 3 out of the 4 lead singers of the "greats" of Grunge (the greats being 1. Nirvana, 2. Soundgarden, 3. Pearl Jam and 4. Alice in Chains😉)... Pearl Jam is the only band out of the 4 still standing today. I feel it's important that you know that little bit.😊 Keep going with PJ and yes, DEFINITELY do "BETTER MAN". The live at MSG 2010 (20+yrs after its release) will give u goosebumps and a better understanding of who Pearl Jam is and what their music is about. Peace, light and love...💞 Rest in sweet peace Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) and Layne Staley (Alice in Chains).🙏Thanks for the music.❤
I'm a huge pearl jam fan so I'm going to have a lot of song suggestions, but I'll mention a few for you to check out: Any of the other songs from this same MTV unplugged session like State of Love and Trust, Jeremy, Alive. Check out the 1992 Performance from Holland of the song "Release" its a black and white video on TH-cam, amazing... Check out the 2018 live performance of "Daughter" from Seattle on TH-cam. Then a few of my favorite songs in general are: Given to Fly, Once, Indifference, Yellow Ledbetter, Pendulum, Sirens, Corduroy, Do the Evolution, rearviewmirror and of course the classic Even Flow.
The era of music from Seattle that included Pearl Jam and Nirvana is called grunge. Interesting that you notice the relatively closed mouth during singing... you'll see this with the other grunge singers as well. What I consider the top 5 to check out: Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots (not a Seattle band.)
As someone who grew up with PJ and who along with his wife travelled the US following them around on concert tours many times over the years, I can tell you without a doubt they are one of the best bands of the last 30 years and their music stood the test of time. They have SOOO many great songs but if you want to listen to some of my Favorites here’s a brief list - Release, Porch, Better Man, Corduroy, Given to Fly, I Got ID, Nothingman, Present Tense, WMA, and one of my all time favorites which is rarely listened to Red Mosquito
That sort of tight-lipped mouth posture that you mentioned, that's an earmark of the grunge lyric delivery, you'll see a lot of singers from that era and especially from the Seattle scene do the same in varying degrees.
Yes…. Pearl Jam is part of the grunge scene. They have a ton of great songs and they are all very meaningful and typically filled with social issues. Well worth listening to more of their music!
The way Eddie Vedder sings is very specific. He almost mumbles but in a very powerful and emotional way. There have been a lot of parodies made of his voice, they are hilarious even for the fans. You should chek out Adam Sandler' parody of the song Even Flow, that's perfect!
Really, for me, 4 bands made grunge. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. All came up togetherish, same area at the same time. Each with a distinct sound, though all are f'n hard in their own way. Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 have been gutted by OD's or suicide. Music still hits me like a truck.
Eddie Vedder is a legend. ❤ I wached his live performance with Roger Waters singing "Comfortable Numb" the other day (on TH-cam) and it was also amazing.. But for Pearl Jam as a group I recommend "Alive" and "Jeremy..." ✨🐈 For other great vocalists: Chris Cornell, Henning May, Alexi Murdoch, Gary Clark Jr and Kaleo (Jökull Júlíusson). 🤩 Ps: If you want to almost (or fully) cry ⬇️ you can always check out "Helldorado" with the song: "Johnny's Song." -> It's beautiful but ngl... It's also Sad as hell... ✨🐈
A long long time ago, in the 90s. A Uni hostel mate got us an ushering gig tearing tickets to Mudhoney and Pearl Jam, just after Ten came out here in Singapore. Luckily Mudhoney played an almost full set as the opening act. Because we got to watch a bit of Mudhoney and the entire Pearl Jam gig. One of the best gigs ever
“Grunge” is the shared subgenre that Pearl Jam and Nirvana come from. Those two bands plus Soundgarden and Alice In Chains are the “big four” Grunge acts.
Can't believe you react to pearl jam❤❤ You ri😮ght to remember nirvana, because both was grunge era, but can't compare. Both release 2 one of the most famous albuns in 90's, the same time too. Eddie vedder when he sing the song...omg ...black on mtv unppluged and pinkpop 92 festival...omg Thks to reacted to my favorite bands pearl jam and bts
"Paint It Black" is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones. A product of the songwriting partnership of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it is a raga rock song with Indian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European influences and lyrics about grief and loss.
I have heard that he was really ill the night of taping this, like a flu or something, and he had been particularly worried about doing this song. It is said that towards the end, the first people who began clapping and cheering as he first goes into that very intense section are friends of his who knew what an effort and triumph of will this was, and are trying to encourage him...
Im not sure but ive read this was very personal for Eddie. Reguarding a recent break up. The 90's brought back real music. Go down the rabbit hole . Pearl Jam . Amazing .
A lot of inaccuracies noted in the chat: 1.) He was not in The Doors, but sang with the remaining band members during their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. 2.) He was not in Temple of the Dog, but performed one song with them -- Hunger Strike. 3.) He was not found homeless on a beach. He was Chris Cornell's neighbor in their apartment complex. This is how he met the former members of Mother Love Bone, which eventually led to the creation of Pearl Jam. Speaking of Mother Love Bone, Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns is a great song to react to. Another grunge band whose lead singer overdosed and died much too young.
@@ca8944 Maybe at one point, but not when he did the Temple of the Dog song. He was living next to Chris Cornell. That is not where he was "found" to join the band.
The remaining members did a demo tape and someone knew a weird surfer guy from san diego and they sent him a copy,he wrote the lyrics to alive to their demo and the rest is ........👍
This is straight up 90's Grunge/Alternative! One of my favorite genres right along with 90's alternative, they kinda go hand in hand tho. Will always be some of my favorite music, always. Love my 90's alternative playlists.
There's just something about Grunge music! ❤ I'm lucky enough to be able to say I've seen them live and they are nothing short of amazing! 😁 Feel so blessed when artists come here to NZ 🇳🇿 when we're so far away from everyone 😅

'Evenflow' put them on the map, 'Alive ', solidified them as an amazing bad forever.
Oh man. Mtv unplugged.... good times. So much nostalgia for me with these especially the pearl jam and nirvana ones 💜💜💜
When MTV played music.
In the early 90s, four bands emerged from the obscure Seattle underground, and took the world by storm. They were:
Pearl Jam
Nirvana
Alice In Chains
Soundgarden
Collectively, they were known as “Grunge.”
And there were other bands as well of course. But this is a starting point.
Please check them all out. The world was never the same.
One of my favorite songs from Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder is such a great singer, so much passion and soul.
Thanks so much for doing Pearl Jam❤❤ I got to see them live 3 times in 91-92 Crazy vocalist. Alive is a great song as well as Jeremy...Cheers man!
Bro pulled the most clutch move in the history of internet music reactions at 8:30. The self-control to stop himself from pausing is legendary.
He did a performance with them, the way his vocals work for Roadhouse Blues was spectacular.
And.. he never was a homeless . How much stupid things people write on a chat, without any knowledge about an artist , songs, or band
Pearl Jam unplugged was the best and still is in my opinion!! I recorded that on my vhs and watched it over and over when I was like 13. Got to see them in Reno in 93❤
Alice In Chains, mtv unplugged also absolutely mind blowing. They also were from around that same time in the 90's. All incredible 90's alternative!
Agree
My favorite unplugged performance
His voice is incredible, can tell who it is just by hearing his voice!
I was 14 years old when this was featured on MTV (back when MTV had actual music). The album "Ten" was their debut album. That and this unplugged album, literally shaped me. I was in love with this music and still am. Great reaction. Thank you.
Paint it Black is by the Rolling Stones!
Corduroy is amazingly good and not often mentioned, nice one
Hey thank you so much for your reaction ❤I am 57 years old now and this puts me back into old days, sometimes painful but always great. Lots of love from Germany ❤
Graduate ‘94. It was an awesome time for music. Rocking in the free world live is the best thing I’ve seen from them.
eddie was in a band with chris cornell (audioslave). temple of the dog was the band, prior to pearl jam and audioslave. cornell and bennington were very close friends i believe. and all of these bands (including nirvana) were all becoming popular around the same time in the early 90s. dave grohl (drummer for nirvana) became singer for foo fighters after cobain died. you may know a lot of this stuff already.
great song from chris cornell from his final album before he died is called through the window. worth a listen, even if you dont do "reaction" video
hey Anthony, I’d suggest doing a dive into the album TEN. it was their debut (which also had this song) and it is literally cover to cover hits!
“Once” “Evenflow” “Alive” “Why Go” “Jeremy” “Release”
“Alive” is based on the true events of the singer, Eddie’s father leaving when he was REALLY young and how he grew up with his mother and step father, who told him his real father died but yet, Eddie found out in his late teens or early 20’s that gos dad was still alive and fine.
“Jeremy” is based on the true events also. it was inspired by a newspaper article Eddie read about Jeremy Wade Delle, a high school student who shot himself in front of his English class on January 8, 1991.
It’s cool to see newer generation discovering the old grunge bands 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Eddie's probably the best music storyteller of my generation. Try "Daughter", "Rearviewmirror", "Better Man", "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town", "Alive" and the continuation of that story "Release". "Porch" at Pinkpop is always fun lol
Omg gotta gotta dig into Pearl Jam a must i think you Anthony might truly appreciate 🤘🔥
@@ca8944
Well...
@@JokerInk-CustomBuilds that’s so sad and unfortunate.
I get that it was out of their control
Reminds me how spoiled we were for amazing music in the 90s!! 😊
Eddie Vedder wrote this song about his childhood sweetheart whom he was very in love with. She left him for someone else. As you can hear in his voice and his facial features it still haunts him. Awsome voice awsome band ❤
That’s the first time I’ve heard of PJ being described as timid lol. ✌️
Strained also because Eddie had a head cold during this performance. Such a great singer and songwriter. I love Eddie Vedder!!
“Jeremy“ the uncensored version should be the next one from Pearl Jam .
I just love this song so much, especially the unplugged version.its a great breakup song because you can’t deny his broken heart 💔
"Porch" live at Pink Pop 🤘
& "Alive" official video (turn the lights off, Josh 😂)
....both are up your alley
I was 21 when the song came out and I was obsessed with this song
I picked up 10 the day it was released, but it wasn't until this live performance that it became my favorite song on the album.
Eddie's voice is an amazing instrument. This is grunge, like Nirvana. This particular performance was on MTV's unplugged, Peawrl Jam has a pretty strong sound when they're plugged in.
Awesome song and singer. One of my all time favourites
My all time favourite vocal performance 👌
Eddie my man….. still love Pearl Jam after hearing them the first time for about 33 years ago 😃
Pearl Jam Last Kiss is one of my favorites
Yes! 🔥🤟
Welcome to one of the best songs ever! And they are amazing live.
Paint It Black is a song by The Rolling Stones from their album Aftermath.
This song is fuckin fantastic, good lord. Magnificent.
Paint It Black was The Rolling Stones. Great song!
Also...he was also in a band called Temple of the dog with Chris Cornell. Hunger Strike
These guys have always kicked ass and they are superb live!!❤❤❤❤
And Rearview Mirror also a classic killer song
Love your channel, been ghost watching for a hot minute! lol!!😁 Anyway, while I love your reactions and that u finally experienced this song and Pearl Jam, I have to say OMG.... I am HORRIFIED at the chat. Wth????🙄😅
Seriously and sincerely, as a fan of PJ since their inception in 1991 (I was 20y/o), I can assure you... most in your chat had NO clue what they were talking about.
I feel it's important that you know that little bit.😊
Keep going with PJ and yes, DEFINITELY do "BETTER MAN". The live at MSG 2010 (20+yrs after its release) will give u goosebumps and a better understanding of who Pearl Jam is and what their music is about. Peace, light and love...💞
Rest in sweet peace Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) and Layne Staley (Alice in Chains).🙏Thanks for the music.❤
I'm a huge pearl jam fan so I'm going to have a lot of song suggestions, but I'll mention a few for you to check out:
Any of the other songs from this same MTV unplugged session like State of Love and Trust, Jeremy, Alive.
Check out the 1992 Performance from Holland of the song "Release" its a black and white video on TH-cam, amazing...
Check out the 2018 live performance of "Daughter" from Seattle on TH-cam.
Then a few of my favorite songs in general are:
Given to Fly, Once, Indifference, Yellow Ledbetter, Pendulum, Sirens, Corduroy, Do the Evolution, rearviewmirror and of course the classic Even Flow.
Absolute staple of the 90s! Brings up so much of my childhood.
And Dark Side by Tim Minchin
Really, for me, 4 bands made grunge. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. All came up togetherish, same area at the same time. Each with a distinct sound, though all are f'n hard in their own way. Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 have been gutted by OD's or suicide. Music still hits me like a truck.
It was the Rolling Stones. Paint it Black. I know. I was a teenager when it came out. ✌️❤️
Someone said "tattood everything" Misheard lyric there. It's "tattered everything".
Paint it Black is a Rolling Stones song; Eric Burdon and the Animals have a very good version too (live, from woodstock)
Eddie Vedder is a legend. ❤ I wached his live performance with Roger Waters singing "Comfortable Numb" the other day (on TH-cam) and it was also amazing..
But for Pearl Jam as a group I recommend "Alive" and "Jeremy..." ✨🐈
For other great vocalists: Chris Cornell, Henning May, Alexi Murdoch, Gary Clark Jr and Kaleo (Jökull Júlíusson). 🤩
Ps: If you want to almost (or fully) cry ⬇️ you can always check out "Helldorado" with the song: "Johnny's Song." -> It's beautiful but ngl... It's also Sad as hell... ✨🐈
Goosebumps!!!!! This MTV Unplugged set is epic!!!!
If you get a chance check out the entire “MTV Unplugged” that this cut came from. It’s all stellar.
“Grunge” is the shared subgenre that Pearl Jam and Nirvana come from. Those two bands plus Soundgarden and Alice In Chains are the “big four” Grunge acts.
Can't believe you react to pearl jam❤❤
You ri😮ght to remember nirvana, because both was grunge era, but can't compare. Both release 2 one of the most famous albuns in 90's, the same time too. Eddie vedder when he sing the song...omg ...black on mtv unppluged and pinkpop 92 festival...omg
Thks to reacted to my favorite bands pearl jam and bts
I remember til now the day that i watched this concert on mtv brasil ...and me and my brother was crazy...for me one of the best unplugged
Out of the MTV unplugged shows, after the Alice in Chains one, this is my 2nd favorite show.
"Paint It Black" is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones. A product of the songwriting partnership of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it is a raga rock song with Indian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European influences and lyrics about grief and loss.
Probably the best live perforrance ever ❤
Eddie Vedder’s more recent solo songs are fantastic. Saw Pearl Jam in concert long time ago.
Ooh pleese they área amazing 😂❤
I have heard that he was really ill the night of taping this, like a flu or something, and he had been particularly worried about doing this song. It is said that towards the end, the first people who began clapping and cheering as he first goes into that very intense section are friends of his who knew what an effort and triumph of will this was, and are trying to encourage him...
DIGGIN' YOUR REACTIONS!!! Been pulling up some GREAT MUSIC!!! This is a rabbit hole well-worth investigating!! VEDDERS vocals: OH, MY!!! ENJOY! HUGS!!
Im not sure but ive read this was very personal for Eddie. Reguarding a recent break up. The 90's brought back real music. Go down the rabbit hole . Pearl Jam . Amazing .
A lot of inaccuracies noted in the chat:
1.) He was not in The Doors, but sang with the remaining band members during their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Isn’t Eddie from San Diego and he had been homeless at some point?
@@ca8944 Maybe at one point, but not when he did the Temple of the Dog song. He was living next to Chris Cornell. That is not where he was "found" to join the band.
@@filterfreephotography gotcha
The remaining members did a demo tape and someone knew a weird surfer guy from san diego and they sent him a copy,he wrote the lyrics to alive to their demo and the rest is ........👍
This is straight up 90's Grunge/Alternative! One of my favorite genres right along with 90's alternative, they kinda go hand in hand tho. Will always be some of my favorite music, always. Love my 90's alternative playlists.
Part of that strain in his voice was from illness he had been sick with a flu for a few days or so I have heard from various sources.
There's just something about Grunge music! ❤ I'm lucky enough to be able to say I've seen them live and they are nothing short of amazing! 😁 Feel so blessed when artists come here to NZ 🇳🇿 when we're so far away from everyone 😅
Amazing band, Better Man for is one of the best songs, great reaction!
For your next Pearl Jam reaction, Check out Elderly woman behind the counter in a small town.
