I ride a Honda for its durability, reliability and pricing. I recently went to my nearest dealership in the Bay Area and the salesperson left me with a bad taste in my mouth. He was cool at first talking about what I was riding and what they could do for me but I told him that I was there to speak with the sales manager because he's a cousin of a buddy of mine who told me to go see him about possibly buying a bagger. Well the salesperson was trying to get me to commit to buying a bike so I told him that I wasn't set 100% on buying an HD but that I was also looking at other bikes from BMW, Yamaha etc . First thing out his fat mouth was " then why are you here ?" I said because I'm was there to meet with the sales manager and I need to look first before making any decisions on which brand of motorcycle I wanted to buy. Then he proceeded to bad mouth the other bike brands saying things like Harleys are what real riders ride, Harleys make people turn their heads and look at you etc. I said " oh yeah " they are also overpriced, unreliable and not fast enough to compete with their counterparts. He didn't like what I said but anyway I met with the sales manager and that was pleasant he didn't pressure me or saying anything negative but I probably won't buy a HD and if I do it won't be from them.

You're not missing anything. I owned a twin cam 95" electra glide for over 10 years. It was fun but the heat, clunky tranny and serious lack of power had me looking elsewhere. A GL1800 goldwing was next. It was...different...but still an unwieldy beast of over 900 pounds and had terrible aerodynamics. Helmet buffet was horrible even with a taller windshield. My wife hated riding on the back. I tried a BMW R1200RT (2017) on a friend's recommendation and WOW....HUGE difference. The engineering is superb. The bike is fast, nimble, lightweight, has excellent aerodynamics with electrically adjustable windshield, active ride settings, superb brakes...just an amazing machine and the POWER.. Go ride one. Yeah, they're spendy as well, but the Germans know how to engineer a motorcycle whereas Harley just ignores what riders want and when their clientele ages out and passes on....good luck to them.

You wonder why? HD allowed their dealerships to get away with greedy market adjustments, $3000-$5000 above msrp? I still love my Harley, but I won’t step foot in a dealership that won’t disclose the advertised price even if you ask. It kinda keeps the bikes out of the hands of the average everyday consumer.

The problem with harley (with regards to younger riders anyway) is price, price, and price. A harley costs 15k plus another 4k in dealer fees. To younger riders the harley "image" isn't worth the extra 8k to 5k.

I mean for me personally is exactly that, why would I need to spend 19k for a motorcycle that offers no other benefits besides loud exhaust and extra fuel consumption on an underpowered engine. I would rather spend those money on something that offers more benefits and function, like better top speed, safety features and durability and so on. While harley lacks all of those things, like hell they don’t even have abs nor a water cooled radiator just for the sake of “ keeping it old school “ while charging much more. I mean like go to every other show where all motorcycles manufacturers introduce about their bike and explains about the renovation and technology that its offer and trying to convince the customers to buy it with a 10-15mins long speech. While harley all they did was running up the stage, pull clothes off their bike and just said “ this is our new bike line up and why would you want to buy it? Coz it’s a harley “ all of that in less than 3mins. Who would even want to buy a bike that the maker doesn’t even know what it has

I worked for Harley Davidson from 1987-1993. I remember riding from Seattle to Anchorage Alaska when I was 25 years old. I REALLY got the cold shoulder in Anchorage from the Harley locals there~ they said that I 'couldn't buy into the culture' because I didn't have a potbelly and a beard. Even thought I WORKED for HD and rode thousands of miles on my bike~ and they rarely rode beyond their city limits. (I live in the Pacific Northwest USA, and I prefer to not ride in the rain.) Then there's the question of reliability; I'm not looking to spend a boatload of money on something that has a better-than-average chance of needing major repairs.
Also, even though there's a plethora of "models"--with few exceptions--it pretty much all seems the same.

The last generation of air cooled Sportster models will not be returning in 2023, meaning all of their bikes will be liquid cooled.

Harley's founding was 1903 NOT 1907, and Harley had business dealings with the Japanese going back to the 1920's a Company called Rikuo Combustion Engine Company built Harley's under license which kept harley from going bankrupt in the great depression and HD kept that connection alive even thru the war (WWII) and still has it today, Rikuo became Showa and Showa still builds parts for HD. The Cub Came to the USA in 1959. Harley Never fully Embraced the so called biker image until the EVO years of the 80's and 90's, in Fact Harley Refused to use a Skull Logo of any kind, until VP of Styling Willie G Davidson Grandson of one of the founders designed what is now called the Willie G Skull Collection. The VRod engine was designed by Harley-Davidson, it was the design of the AMA Race bike the VR1000, Porsche helped with making this powerhouse motor into a street use motor. the LIVEWIRE is FAR from SLOW it will rip your arms out its sockets, it's in fact a VERY fast Motorcycle, but being Electric it has a short range and a dangerous Lithium Battery like all EV's and has a tendency to catch fire. this video is behind the times, Indian (polaris) has the FTR selling really well with the younger demographic, And Harley now has 3 Motorcycles with the New Revolution Max Engine and the 1st Release the 1200 Pan America became the #1 selling ADV bike within months of it's Release, and the Sportster S and Nightster are selling fairly well, i think if the Bronx gets released it's sales will go thru the roof, Truly sad the poor research in this video.: Retired Harley-Davidson Warranty and Service Manager

I agree this video has several statements I believe are incorrect. One of the biggest frustrations I have is those who say Regan saved Harley. The 45% tax on +700cc was for one year, and decreased every year till it was 15% after 4 years when Harley asked to end it a year early. No one mentions how Japan was dumping an oversupply of bikes at predatory (below cost) prices. The best thing the tariff did was keeping the creditors from calling in their loans until Harley could go public. Better bikes (with the Evo motor) and manufacturing quality saved Harley.

This vid was made about 2017 I am guessing. Harley has had some wins since then and are profitable. It is funny to me and I relate it to the armchair quarterbacks of the NFL as to how people who don't have a clue as to how a motorcycle company have to do things in order to remain profitable. There seem to be enough people around with deep enough pockets to buy a new Harley. I have to buy used after they have rolled out of the showroom doors for two or three years. Not a big deal for me. When I think of the Rev-max and the livewire I wonder what they are up to right now. I suspect because of emissions we will see a liquid cooled replacement for the M8 in the future. I don't think Harley is going away either.

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company formally incorporated in 1907. Before that it was just an unofficial partnership. The 1903 date is controversial. While there's iron-clad proof that Bill Harley drew plans for a 110cc bicycle motor in 1901, there isn't any proof of the later, larger 400cc model until late 1904 with the first ones sold in the spring of 1905. Ever wonder why old Harley-Davidson made its 1954 machine the 50th anniversary model? That would explain it. The modern company, however, claims bikes were sold in 1903. Probably none were.

This content is spot on about why riders buy motorcycles. When I was younger I bought a bike as a commuter bike, Harley Davidson Sportster 1200S. Then I wanted a second commuter bike when I gave the Harley to my son. So I bought a Victory after the Harley dealer left me with an unpleasant experience with the brand. Funny thing about that was even though I hated the dealer I was still looking to buy a VROD but could not find any in a dealership so I heard about Victory from some friends and purchased the Judge. great bike, still ride it although not as much because I do not commute on it like when I was younger and tougher. In my old age I am looking at a bagger for comfort and wind protection. It is a toss up between Indian Challenger and Honda Goldwing, maybe a BMW. I want fixed fairing for handlings sake. Leaning towards the Indian for its versatility and quick lock trunks, and bags. My younger self would buy the FTR sport. It is the most beautiful bike I have ever seen in person.

The worst thing HD has done in its recent history is to hire a German shoe salesman to run an American motorcycle company. His plan to make HD the “most desirable motorcycles in the world” is as un-American as it gets. That’s a European business model if anything. What comes with “most desirable” is “most expensive” as well. He thinks if they can achieve the status of the “bike to have” then people will pay whatever they have to in order to own that bike. That’s not necessarily a bad strategy, for a snob, but it’s only effective when everyone has plenty of disposable income laying around for frivolous spending on big, heavy, super expensive, motorcycles which doesn’t reflect the current reality of the world we find ourselves in.

I appreciate the effort that goes in to making a video like this, but I don’t appreciate the lack of accuracy.
For starters, HD was founded in 1903 not 1907! Get the facts straight. A quick search of their website or Google could have told you that. If you care that little to check a basic fact that is easily verified, it makes me wonder about the rest of what’s being reported in the video. Secondly, it’s no surprise that the target demographic for HD is aging and the Motor company is working on a strategy to attract a new audience by bringing out new models.
Rather strangely, you showcased the VRod which came out in 1999 and has since been discontinued since 2017, but you make absolutely no mention of 3 of the newest and most significant models in the HD lineup which is aimed at the new target audience, the Pan America, Sportster S and Nightster.
In the end, this video seemed to be more about click bait, to entice viewers in to watching a video that was very light on relevant or useful information. Using obsolete information to convince viewers that it’s all over for HD is the biggest reason why I give this a thumbs down.

Too many loyal owners, group and after market parts invested to the brand. They are improving all the time and still trying to blend modern with classic touch to the design, just like the iconic Jeep Wrangler. These two brands are the real AMERICAN spirit. It's in the culture already and the spirit of freedom is already sealed with these brands. Younger riders are not gonna make any difference. There are many successful people out there that can afford the great Harley Davidson. They make money from high rollers. And many average income will save up just to afford one, because friends, families and co-workers influence having or owning one. Believe me, Harley is here to stay. THEY ALREADY BUILT THEIR BEST BIKE,I OWN IT,ITS A 1981 FLH 80 CUBIC INCH SHOVELHEAD,which they quit making in the summer of 1983,if they go bust i've got a lot of parts to choose from,i don't like any of the new bikes, more hp means more fuel consumption, used to ride to california for 125.00,now its more,we are going backwards,HARLEY WENT GLOBAL,without warning their investors or owners, cheap ain't better, cheap is cheap, high prices don't cover up cheap

I went to a dealership to buy a nightster but the cost was nuts. I could get a kawasaki 500 ninja and a kawasaki z 500 brand new for that ! When will H.D. learn!

I’m about embark on my motorcycle riding journey. Get my license and first bike. And I’ve always wanted a Harley but I can’t justify the price and how unreliable they are. And there is no smaller Harley for a new rider like me to dip my toes into. Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha look like the way to go for me. Just looking at new bikes they are way cheaper and more reliable overall.

The problem is that ego they think they're the best bike out there I've owned them it's all in what you like riding do your research before you buy they overpriced and and people get brainwashed and to buying them and then want to get them they set and complain how much it cost to work on them then they say they wish they'd have bought something else oh well I woke up and bought me a different bike was no HD like some people talk about you walking to the Harley-Davidson dealer they don't see you ride up on one they won't even speak to you or as can I help you oh well Life Goes it's better bite after than them

I think they fucked too many people in the ass too much to come out with a good plan to bring the brand in good light again, after hearing it costs $300+ to do an old change on a harley and over triple the amount of labor work for things like changing the handlebars compared to other motorbikes... I wouldn't be surprised why they can't come up with a cheaper/better deal attempting to appeal to younger drivers lol, you just can't redeem yourself after ripping off others so many times, they chose one side and so damn prideful, I wouldn't mind a harley myself and I'm still open to such bikes but I am not interested in the kind of things that come with it like people that don't appreciate every bike, like I like the Iron as much as the Fat Boy but if you're gonna disclude the Iron and call it a girls bike, you're delusional.

Harley-Davidson only makes the Sportster's for the blue collar works. Young kids today are not interested is riding motorcycles. The bagger market is flooded with baggers. I believe in 10 years nobody will be riding baggers. If you want a good bike get a used Japanese bike prices fit the blue collar worker.
