I really appreciate the design aesthetic of this bike. I thinks it’s great for the industry to produce these bikes to broaden the appeal of electric bikes. While I would not own this bike primarily because of its weight, I’m curious if one would be challenged by police because it looks so much like a motorcycle. I also respect that vintage respects US laws regarding motor output and throttle max speed while many other companies will slap a class 2 sticker on their bikes while blatantly disregarding motor output and max speed regulations. I am all for higher speed as long as it’s on private property or off road, not sidewalks and bike/walking trails. I hope you keep reviewing a wide variety of ebike styles and prices. I feel that you with your EBR, not the ‘other one’, and Chris Nolte with Propel have set the standard respectively, for quality reporting on ebikes and issues regarding the growth of the industry.
I really like these vintage electric bikes I know for some they may be a bit pricey or over budget, the way I see it for me I'd be keeping the bike for years and using it for daily commuting from A to B over time you'll get your money back with a bike that'll never go out of date, I also like that it's got regen breaking not for topping up the battery but to save on the wear and tear on the mechanical brakes handy when going down hill I think this has cruise control wasn't mentioned in the video, what I'm looking forward to in the future is more energy-dense batteries to increase the range of any Ebike or EV.
The pay to unlock stuff is a horrible , horrible business model and I would never give my money to any company that does this it’s destroyed electric motorcycles like ZERO who uses that model that company is dying
My Aventon Sinch is $1700 and I go about 31-32 MPH on flat terrain. It's only supposed to go 21-28 MPH. That's definitely a beautiful bike and I bet you can get it going faster than 26MPH.
Hey Court, I saw an older video with the Stromer ST5 which was very nice but very expensive $11K! They also have a ST 1-5. The ST2 starts with the belt drive hub and it’s $6K. They have sport and comfort which is basically step over and step thru. Can you let me know what you think of this e bike. Thanks
Are you familiar with a new e bike company called Denago? They make a Denago commuter 1 but uses Microshift brand gears and derailer. Could be a lower tier e bike coming out in a crowded field.
The problem is that 160nm's of torque becomes more like 45 as soon as you hit a hill and the speed of the motor slows. A mid-drive allows you to down shift in order to maintain motor speed and torque when climbing a hill. Thicker spokes are stiffer, not stronger. The very strongest spokes are actually fabric. Have often wondered why tubular spokes never caught on. Sadly, stiffer spokes aren't as flexible (comfortable). Tension and lacing make a much bigger difference in wheel strength. Any wheelsmith will verify.
Thanks for the explanations Mark! I suspected that the thicker and shorter spokes offered less comfort. I assumed that thicker meant stronger... I've heard that shorter improves strength. Did you work with bicycles as a mechanic at one point? You seem very knowledgeable. I should say that these Vintage ebikes climb very well, even at lower speeds they felt stronger than all of the other hub motor products I've covered (except maybe the Stealth Bomber). Hope you get a chance to try them someday! I'd love to hear your thoughts :)

The second shop I worked had a team and a later to become famous frame builder as well as a cyclocross legend. They had the folks from Waterford teach me fitting. The owner was a wheelsmith and taught me (I have never been highly skilled at any of these myself, except fitting). For years I had to work on bikes like a hobby while I worked other higher paying jobs. When I lost everything to medical bills anyway, I semi-retired to running a shop at Ruby's Beers, Bikes & Brats. We only have room to specialize in e-bikes (we hope to reorganize and make more room still just for e-bikes this Winter). My first exposure to e-bikes was The Zappy in 1977 (though I had heard of guys using washing machine motors earlier). 85% of my business is conversions. I still get angry about the poor quality and high prices I f factory e-bikes (straight gauge aluminum, low end groupsets, dangerous fat tires, wattage vs torque...). When my best friends were getting ripped off, I took up conversions. It still bothers me that a not particularly skilled mechanic, in a craft brew taproom can build a better performing, longer range, torque sensing mid-drive for a lot less than most are selling hub drives. Ruby's FB page has a link to a blog. It has lots of controversial e-bike content from the traditional bicycle world.
I liked your video a lot. Your bike has great potential.Where I live there are NO RULES for E Bikes at this time. I ride on the highway or side streets whenever possible. Sidewalks I stay less than 10mph. I Really like old fashioned bikes and motorcycles, so when I found an old 26" Schwinn 'Legacy' ladies model (with a step thru frame) in my neighborhood trash. I thought I had found gold! I dragged it home (on my E Trike!) and cleaned it up. WOW!!! An idea bubble formed above my head. I mounted a 1000 Watt motor on the front hub, using a 48 volt/20 Amp Hour battery that makes her cruise at 28mph. I put 2.25 inch (Balloon not FAT) White-Wall tires on her to make her LOOK the part of an old time Beach Cruiser. I get compliments on her wherever I go. I had to mount a rear rack/basket for the battery and controller. Caliper front brakes and the standard rear Coaster brake works FINE for stopping. It a reall nice looking bike. It really rides smooth with those balloon tires and the speed of 27-28mph makes it easy and fun to GET TO the beaches here. She is Red with White trim topped with an American Red, White and Blue Flag. That retro look gets everyone's attention. Additionally, There is No Pedal Assist. Or LCD Screen. Time/Speed/Distance are measured with.a cell phone. I WISH I had the brightness. As a permanent cripple (Legs) I don't see the purpose. I pedal as much as I can so my legs won't atrophy and stay within speed limits. In my opinion, the "Classification" of E bikes is just another way to get money for the government. Technically speaking, as soon as you put a motor on a bicycle or trike, it becomes a "Motor-cycle" so I guess a Harley Davidson would be an "Engine-Cycle". LOL!
These are really cool but I will say that for anyone living in a city and looking to maybe switch to ebikes the weight of this as well as the tire size removes some of the utility you can get by mixing in transit when it makes sense. I think people get drawn to the look of these type of bikes but don’t think enough about the practicality of the bike and what they are going to use it for. Still if ya just roll this into a garage when yer done riding and you don’t need to remove the battery to charge on the go then this thing seems like a good choice even if it is kinda pricey.

4:25 is actually 36mph ... and 72v version twice as fast 5-40mph
