The country's powerful military had been pushing for the Pakistan Muslim League, led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take power. But in a shock result independent candidates backed by Imran Khan gained the most seats. Today has seen street protests, and further allegations of vote rigging levelled by Khan's allies, whilst both sides say they'll try and form a government.

Imran Khan is without a doubt a good man, but if you look closely at his brief three and a half years in office, you'll find that he was unable to deliver on the economic front. The majority of Pakistan's economic issues are the result of this narssicst man, who believed that sacking opposition leaders, switching ministers at the drop of a hat, and using derogatory language to insult foreign leaders would make both Pakistan and him great. It is an undeniable proved reality that declaring populist policies without first providing funding for them is a surefire way to lead the nation towards disaster. For that reason the same people had nicknamed him Mr u turn who used to do only one thing then of begging left and right then resulting in ever close allies like China and Saudi Arabia closing the door.

Some years back I was at a former friend’s place, it was Christmas and he had two other guests, a married couple from Pakistan, living in the UK… They were in most respects agreeable but the man felt obliged to play Sashi Tharoor’s Oxford Union speech on TH-cam. This was Christmas Day.
I’m not saying Tharoor was entirely wrong, I haven’t properly researched his claims… but on top of this the mere mention of Trump and Steve Bannon was met with all too common reflexive aversion. It’s so frustrating… I’ve followed probably over a thousand hours of Bannon’s WarRoom, which often features Darren Beattie, who sympathetically interviewed Imran Khan, and this unthinking dismissal of MAGA is very VERY unhelpful and destructive.

So to all those Pakistani’s who support Khan but hate MAGA, I ask: How does it feel? Imran Khan’s PTI party has won a two-thirds majority!
The PTI win is not based on exit polls but on actual results based on Form 45. Once the polls are closed, the counting takes place at every polling station, in the presence of agents from each party, so they can witness the counting and the votes cast for each of the candidates. When all the votes are counted, the presiding officer, the representative of the ECP (Election Commission of Pakistan) issues the result on form 45, detailing the names of each candidate and the votes cast in their favour. This form is signed by the official as well as all the agents. Once the counting has finished at all the polling stations in a constituency, form 45 is aggregated, and the final total of votes cast in the constituency is transferred on form 47 by a higher official called RO (Returning Officer).
The PTI has Form 45 from all the declared constituencies, and based on this they have won 180 seats so far. Some seats are yet to be declared. Once the Army realized the early trends, they imposed a halt on result declaration and started fiddling with the results.
HOW?
The candidates from their favoured parties were declared winners on Form 47. Not realizing that most, if not all, Form 45 have been issued and they would be caught out once those forms are aggregated. Hence, they have started creating new Form 45 for each of the polling stations, as can be seen in a video going viral on Social Media.
They have also started threatening/bribing the PTI candidates to renounce their party loyalty and join one of their favoured parties. The whole election is a sham! The pre-poll rigging prevented PTI candidates from submitting their nomination papers (many had their nomination papers snatched), holding rallies, displaying banners, and holding corner meetings. Many candidates have been arrested without warrants. Their close supporters and sponsors have either been kidnapped or arrested. Despite this, the public came out in record numbers and voted for their favourite leader Imran Khan, supporting his party's candidates.
If democracy represents the will of the people, then the results have to be respected. Those who have won genuinely should be recognised as true representatives of the people. The elected representatives who have been forced to switch parties, through threats/bribes, should be returned to their original party status. If any representative insists on switching his/her party should be asked to resign their seat and seek a new mandate from their constituents.
