    So his basic recommendations are:
    1. Avoid processed foods and do time restrictive eating (or some sort of intermittent fasting). Avoid the TV while eating.
    2. Move. All is good but incorporate some strength training. Can be done even at home with your bodyweight only.
    3. Get good sleep. No tech 90 minutes before bedtime. 30 minutes of sunlight in the morning.
    4. Get more sunlight. Go more outside.
    5. Have some mindfulness time each day on your own.

I'm 54 and feel better than when i was 30, mainly because of what was said in this video, a goal to obtain my first 6 pack ever which has been so much fun plus breathing exercises, there is a low emphasis on conscious breathing..Pranayama and Bhastrika breathing rocks!!

That's why I avoid tv. ads are influincing you in a bad way, bringing the world to you in a bad way(murders, wars, terrorism and all wrong doings of people) you become passive, agressive, demoralised, guilty) tv is also responsible for making you feel bad about yrself as you compare yrself to people who look better then you and are more succesfull(economically, financially, creatively) average people are rarely displayed on tv apart if they misbehave or act strange(hotter then yr daughter, ...) Read a book, talk to yr family, play games and go outside to enjoy nature or a fun place or cultural spot. you tube is definetely more educative then tv and you get to see the best , most intelligent people. Buy ad blocker and stay away from Asocial media.(thats how I name them as they steal people away from actual life and real people)

Dr Rangan Chatterjee is very impressive. I thought it was all about food but then concentrated on sleep. I fast 16 hours a day and find that very say and doable. This has reminded me to look at sleep again but also the daylight thing was new to me. Why does no one ever talk about alcohol. Such a big part of life and one that definitely affects my health.

Got a lot of value from this. I like, in particular, the 'Keep It Simple' approach. Very do-able.
He's right -there was a period of my life when I practised mindful eating. I simply ate my food with full focus and gratitude without doing anything else. That year, without dieting or any other special practices, I lost a beautiful 10 kilograms without even trying.
Thank you, Dr Chattejee - & of course Tom Bilyeau.

What a great Health Theory episode! So many people I talk with about health asking how I do it always get taken aback when I say I workout 3 times a week for 1 hour each. Also, they see how much I eat and that makes them "hate" me more. I always come back and tell them stress and sleep is my secret and they don't believe it. I wish it was easier to get people to understand that your life, stress, and sleep are just as important for a great body and fulfilled life.

Interesting to see he is stumbling into the holistic way of medicine as prescribed by Ayurvedic medicine methods which this guy's ethnic ancestors created and practiced over 1000s or years ago !
    e.g.
Charaka Samhita - one of the THE books on Ayurveda (which is about 2200 years old) - talk about what to eat, when to eat, what to do, when to do, etc.

My only sibling had colon cancer at 40, is heavy, has had shoulder, both hips, both knees replaced, fibromyalgia, and chronic heart disease. Mom, breast cancer four times, cervical cancer, asthma, emphysema, diabetic. Dad, Crohn's, kidney cancer (lost a kidney), multiple melanomas. Mom's two siblings, each had two different cancers. Mom's dad colon cancer. Dad's mom stomach cancer. Dad's only sibling, one cancer. Me, 62, and remaining disease free. (It's been strongly suggested I be studied at the NIH.) Kills me when people who don't know my history tell me I look great because of my genes. Ah. No. I am disease free because I made a choice to live what is truly (not main-stream media bull&*^%) a healthy life. My key to a healthy lifestyle, I wake each and every day GRATEFUL for another gift of another day and I treasure that. Truly healthy food, exercise, mind set all come easy simply because I want to continue to live and not exist.

What he says about sleep, there's still one percent of people who are born with a genetic mutation to sleep 5 hours or less.
I don't know if I have insomnia but i can literally sleep for 15 minutes wake up and it feels like I've slept 2-3 hours. In fact I knock out pretty quickly when I do sleep.

Thank you for this interview Tom! Dr. Chatterjee is amazing in taking scientific research & making it simple & practical for ppl to implement in their daily lives. It's great that Ur sharing these ideas & most of the ppl U interview have podcasts & books, but these kinds of ideas need to be in our public education system. We need to get politicians out of government replacing them with these more intelligent & capable ppl who probably don't want the responsibility. A call to actionable service, a call to serve humanity needs to be the next zeitgeist.

I have to say Tom, there are two things I absolutely have to tell you about what I love about how you do what you do with impact theory. I freaking love the little boxes that you have at the bottom of your episodes to show what different topics you are addressing with your guest. And I freaking freaking freaking really super love that in the description you haven't broken down by times because sometimes when I want to share something with someone, I don't have the patience to do that myself. And you've already done it for me so I can tell them where to pay attention if they only have 5 10 minutes I can tell them hey this this and this made me think of you. And they can already see what time it is and all that fun stuff so I just had to tell you that I super appreciate at that level of organization and visual element that you give to us. Cuz some of us are visual Learners and need a little bit more help staying on task. So thank you very much for that

I Agree 100% - His message is similar to 80% of everyone on this channel which is awesome move - LIfestyle in the west is BROKEN for our health both physically and mentally! Living in Spain for 6 months opened my eyes to the cultural difference. WESTERNS: Lack of Movement/strength training, Eat Bad Processed Foods, Eat Stressed, Little to no Meditation/Parasympathetic state, Lack of Sleep, no phone 30 min - 60 min before sleep. We are too capitalistic of go-go-go, we can be a great capitalistic system, we just need to slow down and bit and BALANCE our PILLARS. IT IS NOT ONE THINGS! - THANKS TOM AND RANGAN

I studied journalism, however, committing to two hours a day, to writing, is hard. Writers block is real! I used to enjoy geology which required me to go driving to various points of interest, where I found a mound of stones and small rocks, piled up on the beach, for instance! Discovering why these stones were of significance was total enjoyment to me. Crazy! not quite. I was a free lance journalist for some years, writing mostly for one of our local newspapers, however eventually age takes over and you don,t drive any longer, if you know what is good for you. The memories live on forever. These cannot be taken away and one can enjoy writing to friend and family, which I enjoy doing still, stimulating my aging brain and trying to overtake me if it can!

I am just so utterly impressed by Tom's content. He's like the male Oprah for our current generation of ambitious, yet sometimes lost, success and meaning seekers.

So true … I only found Tom's content a few months ago, and I pretty much don't listen to anything else. So many interesting guests, he is an amazing interviewer (like Oprah), and I am learning so much!

The real problem is that our lifestyle has become too pressured by corporate demands. Even those that don't work in a corporation are affected because corporations have caused the inflation that forces almost all families to need a dual income, to work longer hours, which cascades down when child-rearing becomes a secondary issue and time is always short.
This has become the norm. And this is killing us.
This lifestyle is what leads to fast-food diets (even if it's bought at the store; if it's a frozen entree, it's not fresh and it's probably loaded with all sorts of poisons), no quality time to exercise regularly, and lack of sleep.
These things also increase the stress that then makes people turn to making poor choices like eating the wrong (i.e., comfort) foods, handing kids an ipad at 3 and never having a good routine.

I had diverticulitis, 12 years ago. I hemmoraged and needed my colon removed. At last I have found out through experimentation a diet that prevents the diahhria I suffered all those years. I saw and recognized a custard powder my mother used with desert. I made custard and added nutritious foods like nut butter, vegetables, almond milk, egg, salt and cinnamon. At last, I had hit pay dirt. This I microwaved to set this custard. Sometimes I made a tinned pear custard with all the same ingredients. Perfect! Incidentally I believe constipation causes diverticulitis. This was definitely my problem, but I have a high threshold to pain, therefore stupidly put this problem on the back burner, far too long! Hope this helps others with my complaints.

If you get niggling pains in your stomach. Go to your Doctor. You may, like me, take these niggling pains as nothing to worry about, until you need an operation!

I need to say a few years ago i was about to be institutiinalized and the probation department worker suggested that I eat what I 'had' to realizing this gave me the strength to choose the value food over whatever i could find. I could easily forgo food until better choices are available 7:07
