    BRAVO! You would find a large market in the US if you provided this for all the CHAdeMO vehicles left abandoned by the standardization to CCS.

    Incredible! Against all odds and the overcomplicated protocol.

      Yes, CHAdeMO: some 100 lines of code. CCS: many 10000 lines of code

      Chademo state machine is a "mess", but the CCS multi layer protocol is even horribler 😂

      I think the leaf is the only car left using CHAdeMO and those arn't great on fast chargers do to the air cooled batteries. Wish they would sunset CHAdeMO and just have CCS as the standard world wide.

    • @EngineersFear
      @EngineersFear  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@winningfreak1 To be honest I wish they would sunset CCS and just have CHAdeMO with greater current capability. But of course that's not in sight.
      This project demonstrates the ridiculous complexity of CCS (many 10,000s lines of code) over CHAdeMO (about 100 lines)

  • @stefansiggy

    If this can be reliably done, would be the best for all the older leafs and env200. Muxsan has a ccs conversion for 3500 eur, the bmw i3 LIM conversion is doable for less then 1000 euro but with way too much time, but this seems a lot cheaper. Will have to check out the forums once i've found the time. I'd be very happy if i can charge with chademo speeds on a ccs charger.
    Oh, very _VERY_ nice job!

    I needed a device like this so badly last year when I used my 2013 Nissan LEAF for a 150 mile trip every month. It worked fine with Chademo, but the chargers were broken most of the time. CCS was available. but not for me. Of course, Tesla has their own Chademo adapter, but in the reverse direction, so should be possible to do NACS to Chademo, now that the spec is open.

      @@user-ce5wo3tb5o I fast charge the LEAF maybe one trip a year. Last year it was one 150m trip per month, but that is done. The battery is still at 85% SOH since I keep it between 30-80% on slow charging as a daily driver. Not bad for a 2013 LEAF with 70K. I had to stop using it recently because a ball joint failed.

    Hello Johannes, Nice work! 👍
    You mention that this does not work with an ordinary CHAdeMO vehicle. Can you explain in detail? Thanks!

    • @EngineersFear
      @EngineersFear  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Yes, as opposed to CHAdeMO CCS first precharges the charger output then closes the cars port relays. Therefor CCS communicates the momentary battery voltage to the charger which CHAdeMO does not.
      Since my CHAdeMO is implemented in my VCU I just changed it to include the battery voltage. An ordinary Nissan won't do that.

    • @cpufreak101

      The Tesla network is electrically CCS so it should be feasible

    • @johnthomas2970
      @johnthomas2970 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This will only work if Tesla allows non-Tesla vehicles to charge. Despite using Type2/CCS2 on their destination/super chargers they implement an additional check to make sure the vehicle is a Tesla.
      They are slowly opening up their network to non-Teslas in Australia at least

    • @markyormark7747
      @markyormark7747 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "" This will only work if Tesla allows non-Tesla vehicles to charge" They already do, so I am missing your point.

    • @cpufreak101
      @cpufreak101 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@markyormark7747 so far it's very limited. They rolled out magic dock to two states in the US as the US (still) has no federally mandated plug type, but seemingly instead of expanding that Tesla has instead started to work out deals with other automakers to let them use the Tesla connector, however none of these models are out yet. As of rn Tesla's network being open is a mostly "on paper only" sort of thing, not in practical terms yet.

    I just need to know how much $ £€ Gold, Blank Check IDC I just want and need that adapter, even in its current state to work over here on CC1 in the US for my CHAdeMO LEAF ASAP! This would open up so many additional charge points critical to getting me and my hot degrading battery home! I'd buy one today if I could! Please let me know if you intend to sell these.
