    Everything about this performance and the early days of New Order are a triumph to me. They had to overcome so much and just had to "get on with it" because there was no other way. I'm so proud of the lads. I'm so proud of Bernard for taking on the duties of frontman/singer/songwriter even though he had horrible stage fright and it never came natural to him. I'm proud to be a New Order fan and I can't thank them enough for the comfort they've provide for me in the short time I've been a fan. Love Live Joy Division and New Order!!!!

      Well said. That get on with it singing style is what made me love him and the music. Felt so relatable, and still resonates. So many different sounds out of one band over multiple generations, and to remain mostly faceless throughout the ages. I could swear most modern bands come from one corner of the New Orderverse or another. Arcade Fire could sell this as their new single lol

      As someone who went to see new order from the end of joy division 32 probably the mid 80s and beyond, they didn’t watch the lyrics, some of these recordings capture these as trial songs that they were trying out before they launch them out of the studio.
      I know that a lot of power corruption and lies was tried out after six months live, it’s not like these days where everybody keeps an album a secret, we always used to hear Tracks that were half finished lyrically lice, but with affected in the studio

    • @thisisadebrown
      @thisisadebrown 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would also like to add that they had some truly chaotic performances when the synthesises let them down… But the best thing about new order, was they were just as obstinate on stage as they were offstage

  • @telophasemusic
    @telophasemusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +139

    Yes yes yes!
    Out of all the renditions of Temptation that the band has done (including the original 1982 7 and 12 inch singles, '87 an '98 re-recordings) this one has to be my absolute favorite. There's something just so *innocent* about it, if that makes sense. A few people i know consider this concert to be the one where N.O. stepped out of the foggy and brooding atmosphere of Joy Division; but i consider this specific song to be that moment.
    The juttering synthesizers, Hooky's storming melodic bass, Bernard's vocals pushing up and out with uncertainty against an absolute juggernaut of an instrumental, it's all there.
    Even in their appearance, and the stage lighting. It surpasses nostalgia and crushes future expectations into nothing.
    Shame this version isn't on streaming, or that the whole Taras Svenchenko gig wasn't remastered into a live LP, cause lord knows id buy it in an instant.
    New Order's my favorite band, and this particular version of Temptation is IMO them at their absolute best

    LOVE this song. Gotta share this story....
    The year was 1988, I was in high school and heard Blue Monday on the radio and just loved it. So I went to "Record Store" in my local mall and found Blue Monday on a white cassette tape compitation called "Substance 1987".
    I couldn't wait to hear Blue Monday on my new stereo! I popped in the cassette and it started with Ceremony, then Everything's Gone Green and this track...Temptation. Well, I think the first 4 songs of the album put me in some kind of trance, they were so good and seamlessly went together so well. Perfect for engaging to my high school personality and finding my way in those days. I had a huge crush on this girl, but I was too shy to talk to her "And I've never seen anyone quite like you before"
    33 years since that time in my life and THIS album is the album I would take to a desert island if I could only take one.
    It's still hypnotic.
    Thank you New Order for producing this amazing music!

    People who are old enough and lucky enough to have seen new order in their infancy and the raw emotion of every performance are very lucky
    I am fortunate enough to be a lucky one I love music seen hundreds of groups live but early new order was different level
    Happy times

    Where in NYC?
    I was going to the clubs around this time. I remember when they were supposed to play Hurrah as Joy Division and we got word the lead singer (Ian Curtis) had taken his own life. I was 17 , was just learning about this fascinating scene. Didn’t know Joy Divisions music then, just knew how sad I felt.
    Wondered how bad it could
    have been for him that they
    were about to embark on a
    HUGE journey and he chose
    not to be a part of that. 😢

    I lived in NY when the single of this would sometimes get played on the radio-it was so completely different from anything else, and so much better. It came on, and you had a feeling of possibilities for art that had nothing to do with being cool or money-making.

    That characteristic, captivating and enveloping sound of the New Order bass guitar, after more than 40 years, hearing it is still like a trip back in time to those years.
    In the 80s all the cult UK bands had their characteristic sound, you could recognize a new song on the radio just by the sound of the guitars or bass, in this case Joy Division-New Order, other examples The Chamelons, Big Country, The Jesus and Mary chain, Cocteau Twins, etc., this gave personality to the bands.
    I still remember when The Cure releases the song In Beetween Days, they copied New Order's bass sound, at first hearing at first everyone said: New Order?

      How did you know about them when none of the radio stations played their music?
      Central Park was the only place WLIR’s reception was decent; but that was in the 90’s.
