Ceremony is their perfect transitional song. I think it was finding light with New Order in the dark shadows of Joy Division.
Powerful, emotional and hypnotic.
Agreed. But Procession might be even more transitional. It's kind of the perfect blend of NO and JD. I think Ceremony is more of an NO song than JD. I think all the did is perform it live a couple times before Ian died. It was fully formed and recorded as NO.
Best song of life
I’ve always felt like this song embodies the difference of joy divisions and new order. They’re like light and day. Joy division is the long lonely night, but new order and ceremony specifically feel like waking up to a brand new beautiful day and feeling a sense of optimism
I think it's Dreams Never End. First part is Joy Division and second part is New Order
Stephen KILLING the drums
Yeah, I always felt like he didn't get the recognition he deserved. I guess Peter and Bernard are such big personalities that Stephen kinda blended in.
Stephen never disappoints.
Yes perfect that!!
As he does. Always makes me wonder how many pounds he loses during a gig!
give that man a towel!! He is a drum machine in a human body!
This must have been difficult for them, emotionally, playing a Joy Division song about a year and a half after Ian's passing. This is my all-time favorite song. It always makes me choke up somehow.
same here bro. All time favorite song
the song is amazing, one of my all-time favorites too
Yeah. This song is really kind of like a test to see what kind of people are listening. If you get an emotional response from this song you still have a soul.
It’s rough, it’s raw, and it’s effing awesome! One of my all-time favorites also!
It most definitely was a difficult time for them: Also as well, from reading interviews over the years, many of the group didn’t listen to their first album “Movement” for several years, simply because recording it was such a horrendously difficult time for them emotionally, and the thought of even listening to the album would have brought back bad memories of that time…
I remember reading a few interviews, from Hook and Morris, years later, talking about the time they recorded “Movement”, and Martin Hannett (a genius producer, but who could also be a very difficult character at the best of times), went from being difficult to totally off-the-wall unbearable to work with during the recording, and this was a main reason this was the last album they worked with him..
Before drumming machines
This is how good and fast he was and still is.
Underated drummer
He’s the human drum machine!
no fucking way was this before drum machines. suicide, metal urbain, cabaret voltaire, throbbing gristle, blondie, kraftwerk, and i won't even pretend they got there first
come on
Not actually underrated - he always makes the top 50 drummer lists - but what is astonishing is how he gave it up for a drum machine
Amphetamines.
The greatest song ever written
Hard to imagine a time when this song didn't exist. These guys carved it out of the ether and now it's eternal.
The greatest of all New Order songs. Nothing more to be said. Thanks
is not a New Order song
@@richardwallace6313 it’s a new order song as much as it’s a joy division song, don’t be a snob
@@fantabulouso1647 Snob? first, you clearly do no know me, and second it cannot possibly be a New Order song when it was written by someone who was never in New Order. New Order recorded it, performs it, but it is there song only in way that All Along the Watchtower is a Hendrix song.
bull
Temptation.
This was back in the day when your tape recorder was jammed against the radio, hoping the dj does not utter a word 💕
When you made a real mixtape
Beautiful layers of sound weaving through each other.
Amazing how timeless New Order's music is...wow
Mad props to Gillian on the rhythm 🎸
Hard to believe how they were able to continue with such courage & grace at such young ages. And how they have evolved.💙
I consider New Order and videos like these to be the gems of TH-cam. Thanks to the guys who recorded this for us to see years later
MOVEMENT is by FAR my favorite New Order album.
This footage has been "out there" for the last 40 years.. It's such a wonderful feeling of nostalgia and days gone by.. Seeing the band so young.. Memories of my own youth in all of it.. Thanks for releasing it.
Very important song in this iconic band history. They are celebrating the greatness of their friend and band leader Ian Curtis!
Bernie was trying to copy Ian but soon after he found his own voice and it was much better. Love to all of you.
Bernard and Hooky need to come to their senses and work things out before it's too late.
Don't we all?
They just don't have bands like this anymore. Truly talented and gifted
Brilliant. Saw them in 1981.
So hard to explain the feelings this song gives me.
The venue they played in is located in a neighborhood that, at the time, was as raw as they were. The edge of the Bowery-the edge of the East Village…whew! I hope they hit McSorleys afterwards. 🙌🏻
Any other songs that capture this specific vibe? I absolutely love Age Of Consent & Dreams Never End.
I recommend "All My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem.
This must have been so hard for all of them but the results are awesome 🙂
My ALLTIME FAVORITE SONG
Forever watching Love grow…Curtis’s words enjoy me. N.O was, at this very time, incredibly alive. Even when tune was wrong. Then was released Power..with « age of consent » and «leave me alone »…I was in heaven
Absolute masterpiece. Great live version.
I get excited whenever I see Gillian on guitar.
This is why events unnerve me
One of my faves
Wow. To have been there to hear this. If only…
What a moment in time!
This is the best New Order, Joy Division, song of all time. Ian was an amazing writer, and New Order are incredible performers.
Been blessed to see New Order twice this year (Heaton Park and O2 London) superb on each occasion and all the more amazing 40 years after this performance
Hooky with his back to the audience, lol.
I guess he was syncing with Stephen lol. They are the backbone of the band. Especially for Hooky, he is the sound.
@@DhafinFausta yes, I agree. This performance was exceptionally tight. By the time I heard this during the Low Life tour they were a bit looser, but much louder.
@@charlessomerset9754 think they were all just really nervous so they used all their energy on not screwing up and not much on making a show, i really like that about early New Order
Incredibly sad, beautiful, chilling, hypnotic, emotional, epic, and extraordinarily brave.
The best song of this band
So bittersweet. What a beautiful moment to witness.
Ian’s gift to New Order.
Imposible que no te toque el corazón ver a los tres tocando una canción de IAN; 😢casi a forma de despedida después de continuar su camino artístico sin él, con un nuevo y éxitoso sonido.
Thanks 😉👍
For Ian 🖤
💔💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢😢😢
Gillian is playing the guitar.
Yes she was a multi-instrumentalist. She mainly played the keyboards, but occasionally she was an a guitarist playing along with or without Bernard Sumner.
Bernie S. This is your Best, Man. So good. So punk. So original.
Raw and brilliant
Brilliant 😊
Watching forever
Ian Curtis will live forever in our hearts, of those who hear his music and lyricism, likely the greatest of all time! And this was HIS song, being performed amazingly by the remaining Joy Division- New Order crew. It must have been so difficult for the band, but they show great courage to turn up, perform and also record songs. God rest Ian and Joy Division, and from here begins the era of New Order. Also Stephen's drumming is bloody incredible.
Love love love
This is one of my favorite songs. So great.
New Order take a lot of elements from Joy Division, like the 1 minute or more for starting singin, i love it. Also you can see Benard is learning how to sing on this show yet.
rest in power ian
Cara, essa é com certeza a melhor música do New Order , contando os outros sucessos de uma longa carreira da Nova Ordem.
Epic
PERFECT JD SONG
I was suprised by those drums 🤤
Bernard was thinking deeply about Ian imo
No. He was completely off his tits on LCD!
Hook...The Best Order
I know about you, I would have loved to have been at the show back in 1981, gives me tingles at the very end if you listen carefully at how the crowd erupts! Just know how special that whole tune was and what it meant
Muito tri minha banda favorita
They are playing this SO fast
one of New Order's best performances
I'm one their biggest supporters and I'm sure this is not a good performance or recording and that's what makes it so good.
I saw them LIVE a few times in Sydney in the 80's and they were a trillion times better than this performance.
New Order "La Máquina" 🤘🏻🖤👉🏻🇻🇪🇧🇷
💕🎵 This is the M U S I C 🎵💕
Forgot how great a track this is
youth💞
こんなよれよれの演奏。でもそれがニューオーダー。
so fucking good.
❤
Ian Curtis 💙 Forever! D.e.p poeta 🖤
I’m Japanese,I speak Japanese,but I love this song.
As you should.
I hear a lot of anime openings that borrow from this sound
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Stephen Morris 👌
He looks just like Ian!
Bernard Sumner is cool
They sure needed to practice more back then.
One of the best songs of the era from one of the best bands ever
💓💓💓💔💔💔
Stephen morris is a human drum machine
Watching this I feel sorry for Bernard.
Lucky crowd
I like it slowed down to 0.75 speed.
" untouchable "
Bernard has not quite made it his own yet, he's singing it closer to Ian's style.
RIP Ian Curtis
The song is like running away from a bullet chasing you to end you peacefully
Written by Joy Division ➗
Two Chords Eloquent Wonder
I think Bernard looked like he may have been very hurt inside while singing this.
Love this song whether sung by Ian Curtis or Barney. However, Barney was still in the early days as a vocalist here.
RIP.
O som do New Order pra mim entra pelos poros ,e vai na corrente sanguina 😍
Que temita csm
How good is this?
Once gave a girlfriend a C90 with Ceremony on - recorded again and again and again.
I love Bernard Sumner,if you don't like him sod off.
Ian sang it better, wish we had more
Vocals aint great, but given the times, still an all time classic. Bass and drums just rock big time.
Pearl Jam might have ripped off the intro this for one my fav PJam songs.."corduroy."
After Ian commited suicide, the band had to go on. They became the new order and I love them
