New Order never gets old. My 21 year old daughter asked me what I used to listen to at her age. I sent her a few links to New Order, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to hear her Spotify filled up w/almost all their songs.
    RIP Ian.

This is brilliant. I don't have kids, but I have three nieces and much to the chagrin of my brother's wife, i offer them music they would neve hear otherwise. Thank you for your comment!

But you get older and wish sometimes, you could be 16 forever. Almost 40 years later (!) I saw the video for the first time. Victoria Bergsman reminded me of a girl I used to know. I never saw her again and I will never be 16 again. Both hurts.

    A heaven, a gateway, a hope
Just like a feeling inside, it's no joke
And though it hurts me to treat you this way
Betrayed by words I've never heard, too hard to say
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
    Ooooo
Each way I turn I know I'll always try
To break this circle that's been placed around me
From time to time I find I've lost some need
It was urgent to myself, I do believe
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
    Oh, you've got green eyes
    Oh, you've got blue eyes
    Oh, you've got grey eyes
    Oo, you've got green eyes
    Oh, you've got blue eyes
    You've got grey eyes
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Bolts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hit the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go

    "Temptation"
    Heaven, a gateway, a hope
Just like a feeling inside, it's no joke
And though it hurts me to treat you this way
Betrayed by words, I'd never heard, too hard to say
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Each way I turn, I know I'll always try
To break this circle that's been placed around me
From time to time, I find I've lost some need
That was urgent to myself, I do believe
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
    Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
    Oh, you've got green eyes
    Oh, you've got blue eyes
    Oh, you've got grey eyes
    Oh, you've got green eyes
    Oh, you've got blue eyes
    Oh, you've got grey eyes
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hurt the people down below

Bolts from above hurt the people down below

While I agree with you about this era, as it was what I lived with and listened to when I was young, I think most people feel the same way about the music they grew up with. Probably memory, nostalgia, etc. have as much to do with it as the particulars of the music itself. Most musical eras will have artists and bands that rebel, innovate, resonate, inspire, etc. You can see that throughout music history. The fact that I don't see that in last 15 years is probably just b/c I'm getting older and more disconnected from youth and popular culture. It also might have something to do with Autotune overkill.

The clothes, the music, the friends, the fun, the lights of the club, the drinking.... we thought it would never end. But it did, and maybe that's what the pain is. Give me just one more day. When we got our first Apartment, He got me a tape of New Order. I instantly loved it. I played it all the time in my little boom box. The rhythm of this song was the rhythm of our lives at that time. So upbeat, a little tragic, lots of fun and discovery, and a joy to look back on even though we have always been on our own. Oh and high school years: 1987-1991

Disagree. I hear New Order in a lot of U2's music. An insider had stated that New Order are an influence to U2. Not that Bono would ever admit this however.

I was born in 69, never had social media. I've been recommended so much music by TH-cam's algorithm that I never would have heard otherwise. I wouldn't want to go back to the days of when I could finally afford a CD, it was a choice between an album I might only know one or two songs from (a risk), or upgrading a favourite from cassette to CD (never felt like getting a new album).
Happy listening, however you find your music.

For my money the three greatest bands of the eighties were New Order, The Smiths and The Cure. But New Order holds a special place in my heart because they were my favourite band when I was a teenager and really getting into music for the first time. And I still love their music to this day.

I am fifty-two this year, and have been listening to this for thirty-eight years - for the first five years as the original EP, then as the poppy Substance re-recording, and the post-Trainspotting twiddlings thereafter.
To this day, I've never found my soul as I've gone home.
Without a shadow of a doubt, and will all due consideration, this is New Orders' zenith.
