Victoria is simply sublime. A dreamlike faerie offering a flash of magic and then disappearing. Forever, she will appear for a moment here and there around the world and lifting the spirits of those lucky enough to behold.
Yeah I've watched it over and over again. It almost feels like it's inspired by the movie Vivre Sa Vie, a 1960's French Film starring Anna Karina. The woman in this music video is almost styled like her too. In any case, it's such a beautiful video.
For my money the three greatest bands of the eighties were New Order, The Smiths and The Cure. But New Order holds a special place in my heart because they were my favourite band when I was a teenager and really getting into music for the first time. And I still love their music to this day.
This song has gotten me through many broken relationships. My high school sweetheart, x-wife and women who captured my heart but nothing compared to when my mother died. It still helps me get back home after a long walk alone.

I saw them live at age 17 and then again at age 46 and they were just as amazing. I will love this band as long as I live. Truly one of the best bands, ever.
I saw Peter Hook live last sunday and it was incredible. It was weird to listen to the music without Bernard Sumner, but what a treat to be able to listen to some live New Order and Joy Division. What an amazing concert. He played at the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch last sunday.
Hello, Danielle, I’m not in Florida but I hope you find them. I’d try posting on Reddit, you may be able to find a community. Wishing you the best out there, stranger ✌️
It's a beautiful, sunny, near-Autumn day in NYC today, and this morning I felt the need to hear "Here Come Cowboys" by Psychedelic Furs, and was reminded that they are one of my all-time favorite bands. And then...this comes on, and I'm hit with another reminder of who else belongs in that category. New Order made some of the most beautiful, propulsive, fiercest music I'll ever hear, and I think it's going to be a very good day today...
I'm seeing the Furs in November at the Apollo. I was going to Royal Albert Hall on a lark to see them would have been Oct 3 but they canceled the UK tour AGAIN. And I LOVE New Order, my true favorite band. Live in Manhattan......as I listen to Temptation for the zillionth time.
There is a certain melancholy in this masterpiece. Edit: When I was a teenager in the 80ies, I heard this song for the first time. It was just another happy song on my WALKMAN. But you get older and wish sometimes, you could be 16 forever. Almost 40 years later (!) I saw the video for the first time. Victoria Bergsman reminded me of a girl I used to know. I never saw her again and I will never be 16 again. Both hurts.
It really depends on what station and stage in life you are at in regards to how this song makes you feel. Melancholy is the mood, it's like looking at an old photo album or reading love letters you found in a box long forgotten and hidden away.
Grew up listening to New Order now I am in my 40's with 6 children and I have been playing New Order for them when the mood is right since they where tiny. This music is ageless and timeless!
I grew up in the era of this music as a teen and feel sooo lucky I got to experience one of the greatest decades of music, so many different types of groups were exploding on the scene in the 80's, it was a great time and I'll be listening to it till I pass...
New order two weeks after Blue Monday came out, the crowd shouts temptation, Bernard by now on the Pernod says stuff temptation up your arse and it comes on to a big cheer and he plays the solo cross legged
While I agree with you about this era, as it was what I lived with and listened to when I was young, I think most people feel the same way about the music they grew up with. Probably memory, nostalgia, etc. have as much to do with it as the particulars of the music itself. Most musical eras will have artists and bands that rebel, innovate, resonate, inspire, etc. You can see that throughout music history. The fact that I don't see that in last 15 years is probably just b/c I'm getting older and more disconnected from youth and popular culture. It also might have something to do with Autotune overkill.
This song and video will always make me feel 20-something and falling in absolute love with a young woman from Leeds that came to New York. She was such a stylish person and taught me so much about culture and music. In a microscopic time period she left an indelible imprint. I still chase records that we shared. Decades later we still share music from time to time. And I've never. Met. Anyone. Quitelikeyoubefore.
I had a close approximation to this experience in Ireland a few months back. The most beautiful dark haired woman I’ve come across was a part of our tour around Ireland. It was unrequited love after all was over, but she was super lovely about it. I did manage to tell her how i felt during the trip, which is something i have never done.
Sometimes I get this thing where good memories hurt me and I'm not sure I can explain why. It was so so so good in these days with New Order. We were young and time seemed to stop. The clothes, the music, the friends, the fun, the lights of the club, the drinking.... we thought it would never end. But it did, and maybe that's what the pain is. Give me just one more day. It hurts that I am so far away from these old days.
In the 5th grade I befriended a couple of 7th grade girls(the coolest out the bunch lol) and they schooled me on all the cool UK bands at the time. It was the best time of my life.
Somehow New Order had one of the world's best drummers and bass players in the same band at the same time. And then Sumner's vocals were icing on the cake.
I remember buying a New Order cassette tape a long time ago, not knowing what to expect. When this song played I was blown away and they became one of my favorite bands.
I heard this song for the first time on the radio the other day. I thought it sounded great so added it to my playlist. I had no idea it was released 1 year before I was born. I love it when this happens because for me records like this are new
Brilliant, statement, I'm lucky to have seen them a good few times, if what to see crazy British emotions, watch world in motion live reading festival, yep I was there lol
Im 47 and I always feel sad for my teenage kids. The music they are gonna look back on is nothing like this. I just cant imagine they will feel music the same as I do.
If you were around in the 80’s you damn sure know this WAS NOT pop music. Never was, never will be. It’s New Wave. If New Order was pop, they’d have been by far the biggest band on the 80’s.
Interesting thing about us X'ers. Born into rotary phone and records, grew into CDs and cell phones. We know what's good and real, and we worked and suffered for the music--it was precious. We created alternative, and we are uniquely able to help our kids appreciate this music, and not just the music, our relationship with it. They will be richer for it.
New Order never gets old. My 21 year old daughter asked me what I used to listen to at her age. I sent her a few links to New Order, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to hear her Spotify filled up w/almost all their songs.

Jamming this in 2025 - and beyond.
There's something very endearing about this song, it's sort of a mix of nostalgia, bittersweetness, it evokes a certain emotion, also just a really good song.
November 2024 and I've still never met anyone like you before
I love to play this song loud and dance around the house without a care.
My two golden retrievers love it so much when they see the human dancing, they start jumping around with me.
And it makes my heart so full.
I love the visual of that
@@dartmouthhoop That sounds pervy even on here fella. How many other comments from several months ago did you comment on,lol. Its the pretty girl init.Come on lad,you can tell me.I won't tell anyone, promise.
That's really cool Alexis👍😁
Dancing with your dogs is spectacular. I only have one but she loves it when I pick her up and dance around the room. Keep dancing!!!
I do this too😍
Listened to this on way to school in 1980s on my Sony Walkman.
Still as good now as was back then.
#neworder
I'm 46 years old, I'm Brazilian, I've been listening and loving this songs since I was 10 years old when I met New order. Heard on the late vinyl records. Thank you New Order, you made my days better.
Obrigado from a life long Joy Division/New Order fan 👍🤟
É nois
Sou de Sp, nasci em 99, mas graças ao meu falecido pai, aprendi a amar essas músicas maravilhosas ❤
I’m 67 and still gets me tapping fingers and feet..Cant beat a classic..
It's a real toe-tapper, this.
68 here, love seeing so many ages loving this music....I was 28 when it came out. Still my fave NO song.
Absolutely love this song. And New Order. The girl in the video is Swedish singer Victoria Bergsman. I had the biggest crush on her back in the day.
This song has got me through the best of times & also the worst of times. I’m so appreciative of this band
You and me both
the apartment, the style, the music - i want to live in this music video
Most of us do.
I just purchased tickets to see them Sept.17th in Toronto. I know it's not the original lineup, but I don't care. I love this band. I'm 65 now and I've followed them ever since they were Joy Division. My son , my wife and I are going. All big fans of this great band.
Victoria is simply sublime. A dreamlike faerie offering a flash of magic and then disappearing. Forever, she will appear for a moment here and there around the world and lifting the spirits of those lucky enough to behold.
The aesthetics of this video are sublime. Ageless.
I've watched this many, many times just for the sheer beauty of it.
Yeah I've watched it over and over again. It almost feels like it's inspired by the movie Vivre Sa Vie, a 1960's French Film starring Anna Karina. The woman in this music video is almost styled like her too. In any case, it's such a beautiful video.
This song works everytime and everywhere, it is suitable for every situation and life milestone.
Lyrically this song has it ALL. Utterly gorgeous. It’s uplifting and heart wrenching all at once. And this is why I love music. ❤️
Tienes razón yo cuando iba camino a mi trabajo en mi bicleta la iba oyendo en mi walkman saludos desde México city
my thoughts exactly
I have never seen anyone quite like you before . Green eyes , grey eyes .. That is the punch line . Regardless .
Yes totally agreed, it's just an amazing tune, green eyes, blue eyes, grey eyes, every girl u met and one u loved ❤
For my money the three greatest bands of the eighties were New Order, The Smiths and The Cure. But New Order holds a special place in my heart because they were my favourite band when I was a teenager and really getting into music for the first time. And I still love their music to this day.
Don't forget Depeche Mode.
Almost 60 and I still get chills when I hear this song
This track never ages. Masterpiece.
You are correct - it never ages.
This song has gotten me through many broken relationships. My high school sweetheart, x-wife and women who captured my heart but nothing compared to when my mother died. It still helps me get back home after a long walk alone.
Good music takes you to good places bro
For those that think New Order is just an "electronic" band, pay attention to the guitar in this song. It's masterful.
they say your life flashes right before your very eyes when you die
but every now and then mine does and I feel like I've lived a very meaningful life
thanks to everyone that's been a part of my life
I really really do appreciate it
You have no idea who I am but Surfer...I dig it...thank you
I saw them live at age 17 and then again at age 46 and they were just as amazing. I will love this band as long as I live. Truly one of the best bands, ever.
Agreed #New Order
Wow. Omg
I am your peer age and did the same ... Republic Tour. One of my best memories with my late brother
I remember in a disco called Charlie's in Huddersfield and a girl singing this to me on the dancefloor. Great memory.
Substitute Huddersfield for Dunfermline and the same
I wonder if that club is still open!
Marry. That. Woman. :)
Lol the most impressive thing about this video is the lass managing to nick the 12", I didn't think that was possible.
I saw Peter Hook live last sunday and it was incredible. It was weird to listen to the music without Bernard Sumner, but what a treat to be able to listen to some live New Order and Joy Division. What an amazing concert. He played at the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch last sunday.
1988 listening to Substance on my yellow walkman on the downtown A Train. I was in my own little world. Those days are gone but I'm still here ❤❤❤.
The reason why the 1980s are so great is for songs like this! Listening to really cool 1980s new wave synth-pop will never die in my lifetime.
This video perfectly captures the feeling and people of my youth - if only our flats had been that beautiful.
And just like that, I’m happy.
80s alt music was a gift.
Look into all the top alternative songs that came out in 1983. It's a incredible list. It was my senior year in highschool LoL
Wow, listening to this now makes you aware of how dead and energy-less pop music is nowadays. This music is so alive.
You nailed it.
I also love, how it goes technicolour when she puts the record player on.
I'm 60 , still loving joy division , I'm in Florida , looking fer fellow lovers of this music
Hello, Danielle,
I’m not in Florida but I hope you find them. I’d try posting on Reddit, you may be able to find a community. Wishing you the best out there, stranger ✌️
@@kadewalker hey y'all from Florida ,
I'm 60 , not tech savvy , sorry if I didn't reply , ✌️✌️🙏🙏
I’m Mexican. 🇲🇽. New Order crosses all boundaries.
Absolutamente, yo soy de Ecuador. :D
Lo mismo ocurre con los mexicanos
Yes! New Order even crosses the Mexican border!

@@geelee1977 Es verdad, pero no son una plaga tan grande como los venezolanos chavistas.
NYC? How nice. I'm in YCK.
So many great memories ......was there a girl into alternative music in the 80s that didn't love this song?
There is a certain melancholy in this masterpiece.
Edit: When I was a teenager in the 80ies, I heard this song for the first time. It was just another happy song on my WALKMAN.
But you get older and wish sometimes, you could be 16 forever. Almost 40 years later (!) I saw the video for the first time. Victoria Bergsman reminded me of a girl I used to know. I never saw her again and I will never be 16 again. Both hurts.
Agree, it is very relaxing/interesting to listen to
Really??? Ahahahahaha ahahahahaha all the songs of new order has melancholy 😔
Exquisite sorrow is (occasional that is😀) inescapable? It’s beauty is what puts the tear in your eye.
It really depends on what station and stage in life you are at in regards to how this song makes you feel. Melancholy is the mood, it's like looking at an old photo album or reading love letters you found in a box long forgotten and hidden away.
@@anewlife8343 Quite right, much so than the 83 album version. They always knew what poetry was.
Grew up listening to New Order now I am in my 40's with 6 children and I have been playing New Order for them when the mood is right since they where tiny. This music is ageless and timeless!
i love to hear this. Bless you and your family
Keep doing that......... this music is way above what us produced today! Hope they pass it on to their descendants........ so on and so forth!😉
You’re my hero
I grew up in the era of this music as a teen and feel sooo lucky I got to experience one of the greatest decades of music, so many different types of groups were exploding on the scene in the 80's, it was a great time and I'll be listening to it till I pass...
Well put!
Same
Same for me! Unforgetable days...
Thought I'd get it in early... How many of us are still here in 25 ? 😊 And it still feels as fresh as it did on release 😊❤❤
Even when I'm feeling like shit, listening to this song somehow makes my day.
Me too...like today for example. I feel much better now
X 2
Was she a talented shoplifter?
Why'd you try to contact her? You know, things change-she's maybe a oh a mutt
Wow i used to live in Leeds, England. What a great experience you had.
Halcyon days is the phrase. My lasted 1993 to 2003 .
tehse old days...perfect said....exactly, what you say, it is and we all feel...me and my friends...we were young...were..a long time ago
Its called being nostalgic
Nostalgia, but I'm only 27 and I feel this too
New Orders early stuff set the tone for endless bands for over 40 years 😊
That drum beat is EVERYTHING! And don’t get me started on Bernard Summer’s voice!
& Hooky’s chorusy basslines
Somehow New Order had one of the world's best drummers and bass players in the same band at the same time. And then Sumner's vocals were icing on the cake.
Why it is not stephen morris on the talk the way he deserves?

Once that guitar comes in at :53 you know you are listening to something magical happening.
Ah..my youth. I am 53 and this is the music defines my youth and brings back such memories.
Outstanding song, get the same chills listening to it at 50 as I did at 17
@Hunter Vonnegut i will.
@John C. Just like me. I'm exactly the same age.
A dream '80's day: a cloudy day in Paris, returning to my Vicotrian era apartment and dancing by myself to Temptation by New Order.
I remember buying a New Order cassette tape a long time ago, not knowing what to expect. When this song played I was blown away and they became one of my favorite bands.
That happened to me with The Cult’s Love album.
As do I...
This song saved me today, thank you new order
My favourite new order single by a mile
This song will never age or get old.
So many years have passed yet it still makes me cry
me too
I heard this song for the first time on the radio the other day.
They are coming this year to my city, it is necessary that by all means, I attend to this wonderful rehearsal Please make it happen god !
