- Lie To Me does a very good job at keeping things pretty scientifically accurate. This is my take on the first few moments of the show.

Even though he isn't a conventionally attractive, man...the way he carries himself, the arrogance. The man is so sexy.
It makes me sad that his show was cnacelled, yet the mentalist went on 7 seasons....
I found it was getting a bit repetitive. But then I bailed on the mentalist a couple seasons in for the same reason.

@@christinen1400 Most shows are repetitive, for example like Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI:NY, CSI:Mami and many more shows.

This show was my introduction into micro expressions and reading body language. It's probably my favorite show and watching you talk about it makes me so happy.

@@alexd4566 lots of things are labeled that, doesn't mean there is no value in them.
@@stayontrack Micro expression theory has absolutely no basis in reality.
For MET to be supported, several propositions must hold true: 1) deception produces internal negative emotional experiences
2) these internal experiences have associated outward expressions, including microexpressions. 3) microexpressions are uncontrollable. 4) these expressions are reliable and valid indicators of deception
5) microexpressions occur frequently enough to be detectable
6) detected microexpressions successfully distinguish truth from deception.
It fails on nearly every proposition. It is a complete and total embarrassment for the field of psychology that some clinical psychologists and even a few researchers STILL laud it as a valid and reliable means of catching deception.

@@alexd4566micro expressions don’t tell you when someone is lying they simply indicate emotions. What Cal is doing and what I suppose Paul Ekmann is doing is using these detected emotion to dig deeper / oftentimes in a way manipulate the truth out of people. Paul Ekman said that the way they level of certainty they gave in the show is not something that he ever had in his research. ME are real but they are not clear indicators of a lie, just like polygraph isn’t or any other technique

It was picked up for 3 seasons but unfortunately got cancelled after that, the writers changed so it wasn't as good

Just found your channel through recommendations and the first thing I thought of was lie to me so I was so happy to find this video! Love this content always found it fascinating 😁 I also loved lie to me such a shame it didnt get the best conclusion.
What really slapped my in the face from this clip is how obviously they wanted us to see an evil man who would blow up a church. He's got a goatee. Tattoos, some of which look kind of German. He's got "SKIN HEAD" on his knuckles. Oh yeah, big orange boiler suit. It's called TV programming for a reason.
Lmao. Yeah, they aren't trying to be subtle. But I mean that's tv for ya.

I had mixed feelings on this series. My biggest problem was that all the other people on Cal's team were written like morons at times in a lazy attempt at trying to make him look more intelligent. I kept watching the show though lol.
It seemed like he was the most knowledgeable and the others were still learning so they were bound to make more mistakes and learn as they go.

I think it was the writer's strike.
Cuz they changed the 3rd season and made it weird and it was HORRIBLE. I can’t even rewatch the third season, I’ll only rewatch the first two.

Gutted that this show ended so abruptly by FOX. I get it the last season wasent as good for ratings as the first two, but it still had its moments. We needed to see a happy ending for Cal and Foster. They obviously loved each other and things were starting to develop between them. There was something there for Torres and Loker too. FOX should’ve did one more season at the very least. It’s going to be too hard to revamp this now as Cal and Foster are way into their 50s. I hate it when this happens.
The point is that he picks up on 1/4th of a second tells and is a genius that why it isn't a show about a average guy who understands behaviour the show is interesting because he's the best
I regret telling my wife about this show. She picks up fast!

taking in consideration that is a movie series, the acting and the depiction is accurate, not 100%, but it is accurate.
i've dealt with these myself and from my experiences and call it gut feeling, female intuition, you name it, it was accurate

Thanks for the breakdown of one of my favorite shows. I'd love to see you analyze Call Lightman"s microexpressions. I vacillate between loving his cavalier devil-may-care, "take me as I am" portrayal and thinking he was an insensitive bully. Your take would be interesting.

I'm about to start applying to colleges within the next year or so but I really want to find a school that provides some sort of a nonverbal communication studies class. Is that realistic? Or is that something that would be a part of a class with a different name. If I could get any recommendations for how to find one I would greatly appreciate it. I'm going for a psychology degree and this subject has always been extremely interesting to me and I'd love a class that would expand my knowledge on the subject.
It's the greatest intro to a tv show I've ever seen. He's just so intense.

If I remember correctly the blinking when exposed to a potential threat is also about breaking direct eye contact, a subconscious expression of submission.
I finally have all three seasons of this show!! I'm slowly binge-watching it.
I’ve always wanted to ask: how accurate is the average person in subconsciously picking up these gestures when they’re watching for deceptive gestures?

I wonder if there’s a difference in how the info is analyzed when you’re dealing w/ someone who has severe anxiety or ptsd.
Some of this is hard to go on. I mean I talk looking down sometimes, or listen while looking down. Only reason why is im picturing what im saying or what there saying. Cant visual when im looking at there eyes or mouth etc.
People would think that is a sighn of being bored or lying.
