    Why he does the little smile when talking about uncomfortable, unsocial, embarrassing things is to lighten it for who's listening. It's part of his baseline, and partly due to growing up with an abusive parent. He does not want to be looked at as a complainer or whiner, he's an empath.

    Having watched the trial to the end and hearing the verdict, and listening to body language experts, I started taking the experts seriously. It's not just tells. It's amazing how the body expresses itself. Seeing your video after the verdict really solidifies my opinion that you guys are the real deal because you called it. A year ago! You were right throughout the whole video.

    • @citadelofwinds1564
      @citadelofwinds1564 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I didn't follow the trial and only started looking into it after the verdict, trying to figure out how they arrived at that decision. This body language expert called it, as did many others. And of course Heard was caught lying over and over again. Thank God the trial was televised so the whole world could see what that woman really is: an abuser, shameless liar and outright evil.

      It is sad but true. I work under the mental health and social work umbrella and in my area there was once an instance where the man had visible blood on his face from a blow and blood droplets on the woman's sleeve and the police STILL automatically moved to arrest the man 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ and of COURSE women are usually the ones victims of the domestic violence but lets NEVER rule out the possibility of the man being the victim based on gender alone! It's because of this small percentage of people that lie that other people have a more difficult time believing the people telling the truth.

    21:50 As someone who Identifies immensely with Johnny Depp, I can say that in my own life I frequently "smirk" when recalling uncomfortable topics, especially with other people. Especially traumatic things or things you'd rather not talk about. In my mind I see this moment as more of a "oh boy.. time for this story.." moment rather than a "dupers delight" moment.

    In relation to Johnny continuously pausing in his testimony, as someone with PTSD, whenever I've had to recount traumatic incidents in the past it has taken me absolute ages (and I have a problem with usually speaking too fast lol). It's like my brain shuts down every few seconds to avoid reliving the incident and I have to keep bringing myself back to the present and try and remember where I was in order to finish the story. Everything about Johnny's testimonies has felt relatable or familiar to me as a survivor of abuse and younger sibling to an opiate addict. Watching Amber Heard is like watching an alien make a mockery of those two experiences.

    • @BatsAndBadgers
      @BatsAndBadgers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      That's disassociation and you are completely correct in that your mind has closed the unprocessed memory off since it can't process it and doesn't want it to harm you further, and trying to get to it is trying to overcome your brains self defense. Maybe one day you can get a therapy type that can help the memories get processed. Much love

      I know exactly. When you HAVE to talk about it to someone, but if you allowed yourself to remember it entirely, you would completely break down. Most people actually do this when they have to talk about difficult experiences.
      We detach ourselves from the experience, which makes it hard to recount it.

    Also another thing to note is whenever amber is “recalling” the story, the motions of her hands are not consistent with what she’s saying, so when she’s talking about getting hit she always does the actual hitting motion and so forth, but when Johnny recalls what happened, his motions and movements are consistent with what he’s saying. The vodka bottle being thrown at him is a great example. Justice for Johnny.

    One correction: ppl with PTSD sometimes remember their trauma VIVIDLY, the strangest and seemingly smallest details are etched into our minds. This is the case with many of my experiences / flashbacks. It's not unusual to recall events in such detail.

    • @haileyranson8255
      @haileyranson8255 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're right - I have very serious PTSD and my memories are so jumbled up. Some things are completely blank and some incredibly weird and random things are as clear as day. Sometimes when the brain is constantly alert for attack, it shuts down when the attack happens and focuses on something irirrelevant to protect itself. Unless you've experienced real trauma, it's hard to understand that.
      However, I dont believe this is the case for Amber when she's recalling the dirty carper or whatever. It feels to me that she's researched trauma and tried to mimick the behaviour, but she doesn't feel emotions the way most people do and therefore seems like a liar. She's trying TOO hard.

    When Johnny smiles, I think it’s a coping mechanism because he’s so ashamed of what she did that he’s trying to laugh it off and be lighthearted about the severity of the situation. It’s also bewilderment as to how he could have ‘let this happen’ to himself - as if, somehow, he was to blame for the actions of his abuser.
    It’s not your fault Johnny... you fell in love with a monster. Been there.

      I've had a similar a experience sans physical abuse. When I was listening to the full conversation recording I burst out laughing at what a psycho she was from the first few minutes and Johnny's humble, calm, well thought responses, which was to me a replay of my past relationship. And even I try to "humorise" when talking about it to people, trying to turn those highly negative/detrimental experiences into a joke for the listener's comfort, while somehow, inside, blaming my idiocy for sticking around so long with such a narcissistic, self-sympathizing nutjob, who I had actually identified as a psycho much earlier, before the real shit show happened. But the heart was weak at confronting itself until it could take no more and was finally drained, taking the mind and body with it. I was a ghost/zombie for a few good months after the breakup

    Johnny also does this thing where he allows himself to fall into Jack Sparrow, a familiar character to distance himself from what's happening. Bc when you listen to him being genuine and vulnerable, he's incredibly soft-spoken and stumbles a bit. But in court and in the video of him with Amber, he takes on the Sparrow kind of accent/flow of the words. Swaying a bit, jerky movements, and a slight slur in that video, he's trying to play it off for the interviewer. In court, he gets sassy with Amber's lawyer to protect himself from being vulnerable with someone he doesn't trust.

    I have personal and professional experience with people diagnosed with personality disorders. From my experience, the condescension, aggressive manipulation tactics (forcing eye contact or interaction), haughty arrogance (elitism), and petulant (non) answers are very consistent behaviors. It’s as though they genuinely believe that they can force perception, and thus create the truth, with their words. They are grandiose enough to believe this, regardless of the skill or education of the person they are speaking to; in fact it almost seems to be more amplified whenever they are the most out of their league. They seem to relish in their belief that they can get one over on someone.
    I’m struggling to put my finger on what their issue is with emotions. It’s common for people coming out of relationships with them to say something like, “I felt like I never really knew them”. They often have an oddness or corniness to them when they are being friendly or nice. They seem to be telling you what they believe you want to hear, or what they want to believe is true, when you are trying to connect with them. It’s like they can’t produce authentic emotion, but they are highly astute at recognizing emotion in others. They try to mirror it back, but it’s just not quite right.

Maybe because having his finger cut off and the circumstances he is under it is a stress reaction and the fact that having to go through this and having to share what occurred to him are just absurd. He is a very low key genuine and shy person. Also a little old fashioned which is something I like about him alot. To be fair, acting for the screen to portray a fictional character is a very, very different proposition to making a lie credible in real life. Acting generally runs off an internally-consistent prepared script that runs to a known conclusion, and doesn't deviate much from it, and everything in the film supports the fiction.
      Lying in real life involves improvised responses to questions that are not scripted, and the other players in the scene are doing all they can to derail any notional script you may have in your head and root out all the inconsistencies with identifiable facts. And there's no screenwriter, script editor, or director to make the scene support the fiction; facts are facts. People who think they can act their way through this are living in a fool's paradise even if they've got several Oscars on the shelf -- and Amber's nowhere near that calibre.
      Acting skills are a very poor preparation for this -- especially if you're trying to apply them where they aren't going to work.

    • @NedaMayMonadjem
      @NedaMayMonadjem 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not that simple. I never get the "their an actor" arguement as an actor 😂 like you have weeks sometimes MONTHS to prepare for a role. And even then you're acting/living the role but there's an element of you within it. Plus you usually rehearse for hours on end with a director guiding and correcting you. I doubt she bothered to do any of that for this interview, and even if she did, it would never be to the same extent as it would be for a show, movie, or play.

      I also have a friend who smiles and laughs when she is experiencing negative emotions. It is often a result of being raised in an environment where negative emotions are not welcome and/or are met with aggression.
      But we are watching a man and I see some cultural attitude showing through as well. Some of the old, "I'm a man and I can't show how much this has deeply affected me", attempt at being/seeming cavalier about the things that he's actually suffered from his own wife.
      This isn't meant as a criticism. It's an acknowledgement that those attitudes remain embedded, even in progressive adults who move in liberal circles.

I’ve definitely smiled when hearing terrible news. I assume it’s a coping mechanism of some sort. Also, when I’m watching a movie that is intensely scary, for some reason, I laugh. Happened in the theatre during Open Water and again during A Quiet Place, which was super embarrassing (if you’ve seen A Quiet Place - you’ll understand why. It’s mostly silent and you could hear a pin drop in the theatre. And then I start laughing. People probably thought I was a some sort of psychopath.)

This is evident because she reacts completely differently on two separate occasions to having food in her mouth when asked a question - when she is asked a question she finds easy to answer, she speaks with her mouthful, but a difficult question prompts her to make a huge show of trying to chew so she can answer as if she doesn't want to speak with her mouth full.

    I’m watching this in 2022 as the trial is going on, and I do have to give props to her legal team for the amazing coaching job they did. If she acted in court the way she did in this deposition, there wouldn’t even be a case. Now that’s not to say that I think she’s doing a great job at trial now, but for the legal team to have dealt with this condescending, snarky, can’t-put-a-coherent-sentence together mess and turn it into what we see in court today, well that must’ve taken a whole lot of work. So props to them. Honestly though, there is so much of her mannerisms (the boredom, the contempt, the snarkiness, the eating) and words (the fact that she can’t seem to put a coherent sentence together or answer a question point blank) that just doesn’t make sense. Now I have no idea what went on in their marriage, none of us do cause we weren’t there, but I do find it extremely interesting that there are so many comments from people that have had horrible trauma and abuse that don’t believe she is the victim. I have yet to see a single domestic abuse survivor comment that they believe her. I find that very interesting.

They of course wouldn't see her break down crying after they stormed away in a rage. I don't really blame them for how they felt. It was just awful. Sometimes those of us who knew her would have some success intervening, but there isn't always someone who knows you standing right there you know.

    I know a fellow that stuttered as a child and one of his learnt strategies was to a deliver slow responses, often avoiding the more difficult letter pairings which meant he would search for preferred words. When you hear Johnny in tapes where he is being abused by her his stuttering becomes more and more pronounced. just a thought

    This is hard to get through. Not because of him, but Amber is just incredibly infuriating. Her lies, her mannerisms, and her freaking facial expressions. Just her being. I hope Depp gets his justice and her career finally goes down the toilet after circling the damn bowl for far too long.

    Whenever I speak about a traumatic/hurtful experience I tend to look down and do a “half smirk”, but it’s always been a defense mechanism for me. I do it bc it stops me from having the urge to cry or get emotional. So I genuinely believe Johnny Depp when he recounts his experience.

      He has also always been uncomfortable public speaking and interviews and uses humor (usually self deprecating) to deflect from his discomfort. He’s only actually well spoken when he has a script.

    I think he's (Depp) is making those facial expressions because for a long time he'd been lying about how things happened.
    So he's got to look through the lies he's been telling to protect her.
    He's also an arty type who uses words very specifically.
