Thank you for making this comparison video. You pointed out some things that I didn't know. One of those things is that the H's screen is meaningfully dimmer at max brightness than the Mini's. Another is that the H is truly the more comfortable to use of these two. $200 is a large investment in what is fundamentally a toy. I want to make sure that I get it right the first time. These sorts of videos, even the parts that you yourself might feel are a bit nit-picky, are important to informing a good buying decision. One man's nit-pick is another man's deal breaker. I appreciate that you covered pretty much every aspect of these two units as thoroughly as you did.

I would absolutely go with the H. Having a 4in screen makes such a huge difference to me after having my 405m with the 4in screen. I hope companies continue to make 4:3 aspect ratio devices. They just make the most sense for playing these retro games.

Gotta say it's not too small for me - everything is very readable because we're talking about platforms that were targeting 480p. Infact if you run at native resolution instead of upscaling it can actually look pretty ugly. But it depends on your eyes, I'm always happy with a small phone too. I do wish it had an extra .3 inches to the screen, and there is room for it; but the idea that any text isn't readable for PS2 / GCN hasn't been true for me with any game.
I used to be team 405m, until I got the Mini for $167. I was one of its biggest detractors, the screen is too small, it's too bulky to fit in my pocket. But, after holding it, I found neither to be the case. Seeing the OLED screen in person, combined with the high resolution it can go up to on GC and PS2 atleast 2x/3x provides alot of clarity and sharpness. If the 406H had smaller joysticks or overall footprint I would consider it, but it's not the sequel to the 405m we all wanted
Another RG405M owner here… went for the RP5 this time. Had the RG406H been an M, I would’ve gone for that instead. But plastic vs plastic, there was only going to be one winner.

The issue with the 720P display is it doesn't integer scale for most retro games which mostly are 240p or 480p. This can give uneven pixel scaling, rippling when scrolling, and artifacts on pixel art.
@@andersonlzc Yeah but 720P is terrible for running Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2. 480P is perfect for those (exact match) plus all 240p games. 480p covers the most systems with an integer scale option. The only ones it is not the best for is PSP or GBA (passible with GBA though) but then again those are not great on any 4:3 screen as the image will be too small with big borders due to aspect ratio.

Personally I will go for a RG406H. Retroid doesn't even ships to Mexico as of recent launches and I'm pretty sure I will be able to get the H for around $150 or $140 on a good AliExpress sale. More importantly I think the H has a better form factor and size at least for my needs.
tastes are different I didn't like Anbernic 406h because its oled screen is great, snapdragon is great, d-pad is great, now I have a 3.5 screen nintendo 3ds and I don't think I will be disappointed when I switch to 3.7 screen oled
The retroid pocket 5 mini resolution is 1280x928 and not 1280x960 so even though the amoled screen has great colours, everything scales like garbage and looks terrible to me
stick placement is everything. Everyone should be on xbox style at this point. Its nonsensical that they are still making models with both sticks on the bottom. I actually use the sticks for my SNES and Genesis games as its more comfortable for long sessions sitting somewhere like an airport or office.

The rp mini has way more performance and power than the rg406h but the 406h is still a good choice

Same here. Got the 406V but returned it because it's not really comfortable if you are laying on the bed (for games that need the sticks).

I think it’s more meant to be a wider RG Cube. Given their quick release schedule, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had an RG406M in the pipeline.

406h, the mini is too pricey much more expensive than the 4 pro, might as well just by the 5 than to get mini with just extra $20
