Yes me too, very good steel, fit and finish for a very good price. That would be why you see so many of them on this channel. Thanks for watching mate.
Cheers Grizz, Joker make some great stuff. The handle shape could be just a little better from my point of view. Still a really good little knife though. Great to hear from you mate.
My bushcraft activities always revolve around fishing and for fishing I simply need narrower knives with a strong tip. I prefer your Puuko knives. But the Joker knives are great in terms of quality. I myself have the nessmuk-s because I found it very beautiful and original, but I rarely use it for the reasons mentioned above. I now mostly make my knives myself with 80Crv2 blade blanks. cheap, sharp and tough.
I love the Joker Nessmuk but I opened a fish with it on a video. It was awful at that 😂. I wouldn't really recommend any of my Jokers for fishing. Except the Nomad would work really good as a priest. A puukko on the other hand is a great all round tool. And even better if you can make them yourself. Lauri blades are great and so reasonably priced. Thanks for watching mate.
How long did it take you to learn how to make your own knives ? I'm a forced into retirement builder/craftsman, got sick, became disabled, at only 56, lost everything thanks to the thing we were told to use into our bodies,, Ruined me. I can carve wooden things which I love to do to keep busy. But I've never made anything out of metal etc. I'd like to try it one of these days if I live long enough.. lol. PEACE 🙏 everyone. GOD Bless us All. Amen. From Big Jim New Hampshire USA aka Boston Strong
It is a very attractive design. The question of what a knife handle should do at the base intrigues me. I have equally heard it argued that if it slims down too much at the palm end this causes hand fatigue - or alternatively that this is the way our hand closes naturally on an object, so it's a good ergonomic. Then if your hand is used to one shape of handle, it may not take to a different shape that can work just as well, once accustomed. It occurs to me that the Avispa handle shape might work well on a more delicate carving blade, something like a short Slojd. Then as you observed, the barrel handle wich is typical on a Slojd could be a better match for the chunky blade and the more utilitarian tasks of harvesting Chaga or firemaking.
I think the handle just drops off to nothing. A taper towards the end is fine but tapering off to nothing is maybe not ideal. You can't go wrong with a squished barrel / broomstick type handle though. The tapered wasp shape does look really nice though.
@@KuukkeliBushcraft Yes, I see that. I think that in simple design terms the squished barrel is indeed about exactly right. At least for a Puukko or knife that is used in a similar manner. Onto this basic shape may be added whatever bird's beak or finger guard or choils etc If the rear taper is too extreme this is worse than no taper at all or indeed a somewhat expanding taper. Excess taper off to nothing sounds like exactly the problem Captain Electro had with the Wharncliffe I sent him for review.
Hi Tim! The Kuukkeli alarm went off saying you had a new video. Really like that knife in the red micarta. Was wondering when Unni would try to eat some thing. Always a highlight. Cheers, and thank you very much.
Yes eating grass again, this time she threw it up again. I edited that out. We had a very late finish from work yesterday. You should have seen how happy she was to get home, dancing in front of the front door 😂. Thanks for stopping by Chris.
I've had my eye on the Nomad 6.5 for some time. I need to save up and get one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this nice little knife. And Unni is looking great!
The Nomad is a great knife I am sure the bigger one is better still. It's obviously designed for the grunt work. I would go for the micarta scales too. More durable than wood. I have what I have (walnut) because I got it for a really good price. The Avispa is nice but there are many other similar small knives that do the same in the same price range. The Nomad I think stands out a lot more among it's competitors . Joker knives in general are really good though. Thanks for watching mate.
They are good knives for sure especially for the money. I've just got a Casstrom (made by Joker I think) in A8mod steel, lovely knife and great fit and finish.
Joker do make some Castrom knives, maybe even all of them (I don't know. Hard to keep track of who makes what for who. Joker certainly make very good knives for a very reasonable price. Thanks for watching mate.
I’ve often gotten close to ordering one of myself - I have a Joker Nessmuk that I am impressed with - but always stop short of getting the Avispa specifically because of the handle. I have a Brisa Bobtail 80 that has a pointy pommel that I find quite uncomfortable but otherwise love the blade. So, yeah, until I can actually handle one (pun intended) and see how it feels I think I’ll pass on the Avispa. Thanks for another great video, Tim!
There is no real advantage of having a handle that tapers like that other than it looks really cool. It just means that it is little more than a 3 finger grip. Which is fine if you are not going to use it for long periods of time. I really like my Marttiini sysslehtis , same blade length and perfect ( simple as possible) handles. Thanks for watching mate.
Still dont have any Joker knives, lol. Should have! Really liking the looks of that. The handle I think could be too small for me. Though can be wrong.. Thanx for the video Tim!
The handle is pretty small mate. I would like it to be bigger. Joker make some really nice knives though. The Nessmuk is awesome as is the Nomad there are a few others that I really like the look of too. Thanks for stopping by Ilari.
This seems like a great little blade! Nice video also. Made me real happy when you started by spotting the flock of thrush. I got the NKD Lizard 75 with a scandi grind instead after some beer infused consideration. Greetings from Kanta-Häme, have a great season over there!
I tend to get distracted by wildlife 😂. It's expecially interesting when they are migrating I think. No more thrushes here now. NKD are great. Thanks for watching mate.
Sweet knife Tim bro !! the chest pack is awesome compared to the old balls that I was issued with in the RMR.. stinky old 1958 pattern webbing.. even a duck would have been pissed off with it !! lol Bless Unni ..she's on the snoof !! 🐾😉
I have a set of 58 pattern webbing somewhere, with some bits missing. This is a far better solution for carrying a map, compass and camera. Struggle to find room for SA80 magazines in there but can fit a couple of copies of Razzle 🤣. Unni is a little sweetheart. Snuggled up next to me right now.
@@KuukkeliBushcraft Ha ha ! .. .7.62x51mm 'Shaven Ravers !' lol ..those are the best magazines to carry as a roll up in a side pouch lol !! 😂😆 Bless the Unni doggo ..such a sweetie !! 🐾🐾
Joker knives, I do have a few. Small knives, yes I also have a few. I think I'll have to put a video together just on 3 finger handles. I like my Avispa. It's setup as a neck carry / pack pocket. I don't belt carry it either. What can I say, I even have a few Becker BK13s LOL
You could grind some of that finger guard/choil area just a hair to get a bit more pinky grip. That drives me crazy when ya need just a tiny bit more for a secure grip. Their knives are pretty dang nice for the money. I especially like that they make thicker scales, something Brisa needs to do.
I tried the yellow & black Avispa. It was beautiful but the scales were polished and slick. Can I rough them up with sandpaper without making the knife look bad? Also I’d like more of an index finger indentation. You think it could be shaped with a Dremel? Great video.
Glad you liked the video Adam. I think a bit of sanding would add a bit of grip and not look ugly. I think the dremel would work too but I would be careful with that, it also might take some work, that's pretty hard steel. I personally would stick with just a bit of sanding. Thanks for watching mate.
I have a hand like a 💩 shovel !! lol.. I remember a joke about an Italian fella grappling to speak English lol.. and he kept getting hit !.. He asked the waitress to have a fork with him on the table.. the chamber maid to take a sheet with him on the bed 😂🤣 ''I wanna fork with you on the table... an I wanna take a sheet with you on that bed !'' 🤣😂
I have been impressed with the Joker knives, I have the Montanero and the nomad 6•5 really well made and well priced.
Yes me too, very good steel, fit and finish for a very good price. That would be why you see so many of them on this channel.
Thanks for watching mate.
Smashing out some great knife videos Tim! 🔪🔪🔪💯💯💯😝👊
Had a couple of days off work. Kept myself busy 😂. Quite a lot of videos in a short space of time.
Thanks for stopping by mate.
I own quite a few Jokers, including the Avispa, and have no complaints with any of them.
The quality and the fit and finish for the price really doesn't give you much to complain about does it.
Thanks for watching mate.
Nice little knife, considered it myself...... Good to see you Tim, Grizz
Cheers Grizz, Joker make some great stuff. The handle shape could be just a little better from my point of view. Still a really good little knife though.
Great to hear from you mate.
I like that chest rig. Looks functional and useful.
It's handy Gruggs. I did a video about that too on the same day. It will be on my channel tomorrow.

oh I have to say that I buy the blades and only build the handle and sheaths myself. Greatings to New Hampshire!

This one is very similar to the Joker "Erizo", a great knife.
