Great review! Similar to a few others' comments here, my solution to the flimsy sheath was to saturate it with hot beeswax. I did this by gently warming the sheath over a flame, being careful not to get it burning hot or to burn or melt the stitching. Then briefly hold a beeswax candle to the flame and then smear the heated wax onto the leather until the whole sheath is coated. Finally, warm the sheath over the flame again until the wax is absorbed into the leather. Repeat these step 5 or 6 or 10 times until the leather becomes stiff when cool (it will darken, too). Obviously this doesn't solve the thinness of the leather, and I probably still wouldn't use it for pocket or neck carry, but it will be a fair bit safer to just toss in your rucksack.
I have both those BPS knives. At the time I only paid $24.00 for an early version the BS1FT and $21.95 for the Finn Lite on Amazon. It now sells for $23.95. I have put both through knives their paces. I absolutely love the Finn lite. I added a leather thong dangler to it for belt carry, but also just throw it in my Dickies utility pocket on my right leg. I have been using it for carving and feather sticks. That fine tip is great for getting into small places. What a wonderful little knife. BPS is a really good knife maker and it feels good to support a Ukrainian company. Thanks 🎸🔪
I bought mine a while ago and I love it. It's a good knife for carving and because of the thin blade it still does well at food prep unlike a thicker scandi.
BPS are fantastic knifes for the price. I won the smaller version of the first one you showed, in a given way you did last year. It's been brilliant, it's the only knife I've used all year, does everything from processing fire wood to skinning rabbits. As good as any big brand kife for 3 times the price. 😊
I think, for the money, the BPS knives are the best on the market, the best money can buy, for now. I have 2, the Adventuree and the other that looks like the saddle mtn skinner, got a little belly in her, cant remember the model. I cold blued mine, added 1/16" teflon under the scales to fatten the grips a bit, wet and compressed the sheaths a bit, in order to compress and tighten. Now the are perfect. I got less than $70 in both.
3 x as much as a Garberg? I picked a Garberg up for £57. I wasn't convinced by BPS knives to be honest but then I thought I shouldn't comment without trying one. I picked up the BPS adventurer to try out and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised, I love it. Do I think it's as good as a Garberg? No not at all, do I think it's the best budget knife ? Well not far off ,for full tang knife anyway I still think Mora are hard to beat but that said I'm happy I bought it, I do love the profile and ease of sharpening, it also holds a great edge. I've had the Finn lite a couple of weeks now and I love it, now this is what I call a great little bargain, well worth the money, the sheath is dangerous but not to hard to make one, but superb at feather sticking and carving, it's like a little scalpel.
I've got three BPS knives--and I love them! One of them is the first one in this video--the smallest I currently have--and it is great! It is not as impressive and as elegant as the other two, but it convinced me that small is better for bushcraft! I don't like the aesthetics of the BPS scale fasteners but I like how they make it easy to remove and replace the scales. I took the scales off all three of my knives to patina the blades. (Overnight in wine vinegar). The patina looks good and provides good rust resistance. The patina also seems to retain a film of light oil well. Also, being able to take the scales off easily makes replacing them with a different wood a doddle. I love the look of the Finn light--and am going order one immediately. I may give it purpleheart scales. Or maybe teak. I've got some lying around. Great video--thanks!
I bought one of these direct from BPS. I agree Neil. Cracking little blade , but the sheath is a bit flimsy for pocket carry. I put a few coats of linseed oil on the handle and a little leather balm on the sheath. Not tried to baton with it yet though lol! Thanks for all your uploads Bro, much appreciated!🙂👍🏆💥
alright lad, i pulled the trigger on one of these based on your recommendation. the thing that has always stopped me from trying bps knives are those ruddy bolts! but if the knife is as comfortable and performs as well as you say, i’m willing to forgive them lol! thank you for your excellent films, i really enjoy them.
I wrapped some plastic and tape around the blade and rewet formed the sheath to give ple room for the blade as i thought it night help keep from sliceing it when withdrawing the blade or replacing it after use i like expanded way better than it was provably will wax it as well but i am going to come up with a more durable sheath for sure eventually .
I got one, plus a few other ones, including the bsf .only problem I found or not, so for some, is it petinas super fast ,so needs lots of maintenance. Otherwise, it's a great knife that had mine a few months and is a great neck knife pukko. Great as a backup or an excellent food prep blade .God bless you and your family. Lee
Looks like a great little knife for the price. I have an HK05 in carbon steel and I love it. The thing nobody ever seems to mention is that these are good for experimenting with things like forcing patinas or playing with different finishes on something you probably aren’t going to cry over if it doesn’t turn out exactly as you imagined. I’m seriously disappointed in the apparent lack of quality in that sheath however. The one that came with mine was leagues above that floppy thing.
For me the biggest con is the sheath full stop, wouldn't take much for the blade to poke through the soft material, my misses has just started making me a leather neck sheath for it.👍🏻
BPS are fab - not sure you can beat them for the price. I've just bought a Gerber Mansfield - a slipjoint with a scandi grind as a folding bushcraft knife to go with my BPS B1 - be nice to hear your opinion on it.
@@misolgit69 can't go wrong with that setup. Same thing I did with my Garberg. Kydex is always the answer. I like leather but to much maintenance. Only 2 knives I have that still use leather Aura and adventurer. The Aura has a thick leather.
Ive had a while now but havent used it much ask your bro how much for a compatible sheath like yours with a ferro rod holder in the center id be interested .
@@misterpontypine it's just the Finn lite I've only found on the Ukraine website, you can get a few different ones in the UK, they have even have one in the bushcraft store what they have worked on together, it looks pretty decent .

I have the BOS ADVENTURER, absolutely love it. I paid $40 USD and it comes with Scandinavian grind edge and a ferro rod.

I've got one, it's incredible for the money, I love it!
Same here
I bought mine a while ago and I love it. It's a good knife for carving and because of the thin blade it still does well at food prep unlike a thicker scandi.
Just got mine and looking forward to using it. Thanks for the advice!
It's like a fixed blade #8 Opinel .. a fine little knife !
Another great Video Neil
I am not in market for another knife. But i enjoy all your videos , your DIY ,ideas and reviews
Greetings from Norway
Great review, BPS make great knives.
Totaly agree with you on this Puukko!
Definitely going to try this! Thank you and subscribed!
Great review Neil
Another crackin video. Thanks.
If you want a different Sheath for the Finn Lite just use the Sheath from BPS knives BS1FT CSH. Works great.

Thanks for the review. This was perfectly timed as I ordered one a couple of days ago.
Spot on blade! Excellent carving mate.....ATB
Great little knife by the look of it, and a good review, Neil. I'll know shortly, 'cause I've just ordered one.

I’ve had mine for a few months now. Knife is awesome for the price.
I dipped my sheath in bees wax, which stiffened it up a bit

ones i use, and nobody seems to know is Joker knifes. and they fit any budget from £20 to hundreds and they are spot on knifes
Looks great!
Bps make excellent knives. I love my HK6 and the sheath which come with it are fantastic as well.

Great review. The biggest con I think is it has no belt loop. I know you could fashion one but I wish it had a different sheath.

Excellent review. That leather sheath looks a perfect candidate for hot waxing.

Yeah, I'd be careful sheathing it. The upside to the soft sheath is that it has to be more comfortable for front pocket carry.
Wonderd what you new knife was! Definitely affordable.
did you see their limited edition Aura ? N690 and micarta same sheath thicker stiffer leather with a DIY pocket clip, all gone now of course
I have the Aura and the fin lite. I really love the Aura outstanding knife. Especially when i got it for $48 shipped.
personally I think it was crying out for a thermoplastic sheath with a thumb ridge and a lanyard hole

the garberg isnt even the most expensive mora...the really silly expensive ones have wood handles just like bps
Am I going mad, I can't find it on the BPS website
Ive had a while now but havent used it much ask your bro how much for a compatible sheath like yours with a ferro rod holder in the center id be interested .
Where can I find this in UK?
I don't think you can, I ordered mine from Ukraine, delivery is pretty fast.
BPS has a presence on both Etsy and Amazon. Dunno if it’s available on the over the pond version of those services, but you could give it a look.
@@TakenmynameandmycatI don't think you can get them on either of them, that's why I ordered direct from Ukraine
I got a BPS Techno Bee from Heinnie Haines which suited me out wildcamping in the UK for fire and food 👍
