Any recommendations for what I could use instead of foam? My cinder block building's chimney has a softball size hole in it. I know I need something to use as a backing inside the hole for the mix to adhere to but I know it also needs to be something that isn't flammable. I saw another video with cardboard but that wouldn't work either. Thanks for the video! I just need to do some thinking to find the right option.
@@appleget you could use stucco wire and shape it larger than the hole 🕳️ then force it into the hole where it’s jammed in there! Then you can patch to that
Its still the same as the day I patched it. I also coated it with Sherwin Williams loxon paint twice and then built an insulated wall in front of it with a few access points for the water service and electrical service and so far so good!
Nope! The foam was to hold the patching cement from falling into the core’s of the block until it dries. I only used foam at 3 or 4 deep holes not the entire wall. We also dug up the outside of this foundation block wall and properly waterproofed. It’s been 3 years and the basement is bone dry
Great video ! The foam is the best. This is exactly what I needed to see, thanks !
One of the best patch jobs I’ve seen
Great job . It would be nice to know the mix you used .
@@Nttt739 it’s called Planitop xs made by Mapei, you just add water. I showed the bag in the video
This is a good how-to video. Can this method also be done to best seal up basement cracks?
Yes you could use this on cracks. But if the cracks are actively moving this will crack again. In that case it would be better using a urethane caulk.

Open cell foam holds moisture like a sponge. Wrong product to use in this instance.
