Love your episode about the Lipizzaner horses. As a child in the 50's I was in awe of how General Patton and others helped preserve this magnificent breed in Europe during WW 2. I only rode for a few years but the Lipizzaners always fascinated me. I saw one of the first touring groups from the Spanish riding school when they came to America in 1964. Will never forget that performance. The "airs above the ground" was the most awe inspiring thing I have ever seen. The horses were so powerful and in peak physical condition. They performed with and without riders. I will never forget that evening. I saw them again about 30 years later. So glad you were able to see and ride them in Europe. All of your episodes are wonderful but this one was very special for me.
Have you read The Perfect Horse? In detail about the men who brought the horses in jeopardy to Patton's attention & took all the risk to save them. Highly recommend.
That was a good movie. In reality it was Bud Brickman who did the saving. During World War II, General George Patton received a desperate plea to help rescue the world famous Lipizzan horses from the advancing Russian army. He turned to a Montana boy,Bud Brickman, who had grown up on a horse ranch outside of Red Lodge, MT to get the some 200 mares to safety.
A wonderful experience, Alyssa! I visited Piber some years ago, the austrian stud for breeding Lippizaner and we could see the young horses roaming free on the 'Almen', the mountain pastures. They are hardy, weatherproof and surefooted because the environment forms them. And yet they are elegant and refined, a real cultural heritage of Europe. I am happy you could visit! First Marbach, now Lipica, your channel is obviously well known in the horse world and the doorsof the old state studs are open for you.
I feel like falling in love with the Lipizzaner horses is an almost universal first step in becoming a life-long horse crazy person, and I was no exception. ❤😂
Thank you for this special episode. I was truly blessed when a Pluto Lippizaner came to be my partner. Words can not express how wonderful he was. He made my life complete. I can’t wait to be reunited with him in Heaven ❤
This is so crazy to watch as someone who also got the chance to ride S. Samira, the Lippizaner in the dressage lesson! He is such an incredible horse I’m glad we both had the chance to meet him ❤
I recognised him as soon as I saw the thumbnail! (Although I wasn’t 100% sure because they obviously all look very alike 😂) I got a bit unlucky as we had our session during a massive storm which echoed quite a bit in the indoor arena but apart from a few tiny spooks at the thunder he was amazing
Being Lebanese, I'm an Arabian nutter.. But I truly love all horses. And I have recently just painted one of these magnificent stallions, and it's super realism, looks like a photo.. They are a dream to paint.. In their arena!!! ❤💪❤
Lipizzaners are also very close to my heart. We have a Lipizzaner School in the Cape- South Africa🇿🇦 and everytime they come to perform in our town, I try to support them. Such beautiful animals😍
My first knowledge of the Lipizzaner horse came as a child when I watched a movie about how the American Army help evacuate them during WW2. I am so captivated by them, watching them perform. They seemed magical almost surreal.
I have seen them perform in Chicago. They are as grand as the era that produced their first herd. Just gallant, calm and so powerful. Truly a national and historical treasure!
I think you would have a very similar experience in Czechia. The breed is named Old Kladruber or simply Kladruber. They're bred in two colours - white/grey in national stud farm in Kladruby and Labem and black in national stud farm in Slatinany. They have closed stud book. Majestic horses and national pride. Similar disposition, but they have roman noses. They're good for dressage and pulling carriages mostly, but they can do anything. Danish royal family is using them to draw the royal coaches and for royal mounted guard. And I would love to see them on your list. Because I'm really proud of them. Also, because other Czech breeds seem kind of uninteresting, like our warmblood that everyone here have and it feels like almost any warmblood combination would be eligible to be papered as Czech warmblood. But Kladruber? That's a majestic breed with very interesting history!
I can only support this. If the Kladruber horse is not yet on your list, it definitely has to be put there! And there is another interesting Czeck breed, the Kinsky Horse.
I remember the Disney movie about this breed and I was able to see the Lippizzaner horse show, "Airs Above the Ground" when I was a child. The magic never left me. Thank you for a stunning episode. 💖
When I was growing up, in the summer holidays they used to show a TV programme called White Horses. It was in black and white and dubbed into English. I loved it and the theme tune always brings a tear to my eyes x
As a teen I had a book about Lipizzaner horses. They were my dream horses. I kept drawing a portrait of one of the famous stallions, Neapolitano Perletta to perfection. Still love them. It was a great episode, thank you! ❤
Tempel Farm in Illinois had Lipizzaner horses performing there for over 60 years. It closed last fall and they've been selling off the horses. There may be some left. It's sad that they had to close.
Yes! I have been blessed to train three Lippizzaner mares! ❤❤❤ Amaryllis I started from totally green...... she learned so fast! Princess and Favorina was ridden before they came to Norway, but not much educated..... All three had amazing personalities and was so much fun!!! Loved them!!! ❤❤❤ They went on to be brood mares and have several offsprings still alive!!!
In terms of dressage breeds, please cover the Hanoverian! my mare was born in Germany and her kind have been used for farm, cavalry and dressage for the longest time! She is the sweetest, most relationship-oriented horse I have ever met - and I am starting to think that is a breed trait as I have now met a filly at our barn who nickers at everyone. They are solid, sensible, and have a huge work ethic. They can also be goofy or curious.
This was absolutely magical! Do the stallions get pasture time too? One of my favourite breeds as well. I have never been to Lipica unfortunately, but to Vienna several times. When I was a teen, I was fortunate enough to be riding and caring for an old Lipican mare named Rebecca. She was very fit, even in her late twenties, and she was fierce (in the best way possible). Always willing to go forward and quiet a handful for me as a young rider. 😅 She taught me a lot. She had a hard time in her life before she came to our friends barn, overweight from people throwing all kinds of food waste over her fence. And she was standing there all alone. 😞 I was so happy for her when she found this wonderful forever home in her older days. She lived up to her thirties. Thank you Rebecca for letting me be a part of your long journey. ❤
Wonderful episode Alyssa! The Lipizzaner are the horses that I admired so much in my childhood, too. And I always wanted to ride one one day. It didn’t happen (yet) so I enjoy your video even more!
Thank you so very much for this episode!!! I was fortunate to have attended a performance of these majestic Lipizzaner stallions twice when I was young; they were a dream come true for me. I can still see them in my memories. ⭐️
You are such a lucky girl. I too went to one of those shows here in the United States and was in awe by the horses. It's a horse girls dream come true.
We were very lucky in 1984 to attend the Spanish Riding School performance with the magnificent Lipizzaner in VIENNA, absolute highlight of our European Trip! TY for your great story on them x
I just rewatched your video on the Lipizzaner breed. I now own a Lipizzaner/Quater horse mare. I ha been riding since the 70’s. Mostly showed wester pleasure on quarter horses. After getting my mare four months ago I am now obsessed with the Lipizzaner. Wonderful temperament!
Another great epsisode!!! Love this breed. It was neat to see them showcased from the arena in a dressage lesson, to a beautiful drive, to a forested hack. Looks so fun and dreamy. I will be in the land of the nearby Haflinger next month enjoying some hacks. I wish there more breeds, I could watch these videos everyday. The combo of horse and travel channel, couldn't be more entertaining/ interesting.
I have never had the chance to ride one but was blessed to see the Spanish Riding school perform at old Madison Square Garden in NYC back in I think 1963. I believe it was a fund raising tour. I’ve also seen the newer touring show but it’s not the cream of the crop like the ones actually at the farm & school. Such joyful memories. Thank you.
Aaawww! Makes me miss my previous horse ALga. She was a Lipizzaner and I find the character description very spot on! :-) Thank you for the lovely video ♥
Alyssa. I am so jealous. All. These horses you ride are beautiful!!! Also you always have a a great smile on your face when you ride these horses 🐎🐎. Just like I do!!!
Yay Alyssa, such a full circle! Beautiful spark that started it all - keep doing what are you doing,. We love it!!! I think nonius breed would also cool to see (Hungary)! :D
Oh wow. This brings back great memories for me! When i was eighteen i was fortunate enough to visit the Lipica Stud & to see the Lipizzana horses perform to classical music which was so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. So happy to see your video at Lipica. Brilliant ❤
I never got to ride or see a Lipizzaner work but used to train my American Saddlebred to do side pass, turn on forehand and backhand, traverse at trot and canter. It made him a much better, more responsible, maneuverable horse in the big American Saddlebred Pleasure Classes.
In such a short time I understood so more about this type of relationship. And coud see it change as she gave you instruction. So amazing. I did see these horses when the show came to our area in Bangor Maine. Thank you again
I just thought in your last episode that i would love to see the Lipizzaner - my favourite breed - and here it is! Thank you so much for sharing ❤ Do you have your own horse and what breed is it?
I went there for my 21st b'day pressie. A whole week with these beautiful horses! They seem to speak more English now. I was there in 1990 so it was still Yugoslavia then and most visitors they had were German. It broke my heart when the stud was bombed during the Bosnian war as it was considered military.
Wow. This is so cool! When I was about 9 years old, my family got to go to Vienna and visit the Spanish Riding School. We saw the horses going through their morning exercises. And I love to watch the movie "Miracle of the White Stallions"! Seeing the homeplace of these horses in your video is so cool.
What a wonderful video. I'm so glad you got to go there a second time and to take us along with you. Both horses you rode were gorgeous, and I've never seen Lippizaners pulling a carriage before. That was great.
very interesting i think id gladly visit lipica but neverever the hofburg show baroque riding is so fascinating i wish the hofreitschulewould close in vienna and find a nice place at the countryside with atleast paddocks for the highly trained studs 🍀

Thank you! Cheers.
Wow - didn't know this existed - now at the top of my bucket list!!!!
Thank you for this excellent episode, Alyssa! What it must have been to ride the legendary Lippizaner ❤
What a beautiful lesson on such a majestic horse!
This breed is something else. So beautiful.
I am from Croatia, right next to Slovenia in Croatia, Lipizzan horses are also bred in the cities of Lipik and Đakovo. 🐎🐎
I saw the Lippizaner show with my family in Seattle, USA. Very impressive and memorable.

New subscriber. What a joy to ride all the breeds! I am excited to watch your journeys.
I also was able to see them perform in Seattle when I was 18;years old. They are a beautiful horse. Thank you
wouaaaw !! what a journey this vidéo. Thank you so much for the quality of your vidéos and your beautiful energy ! Thank you the horses !
Beautiful horses and a beautiful place.🥰 Thank you.

very interesting
i think id gladly visit lipica but neverever the hofburg show
baroque riding is so fascinating i wish the hofreitschulewould close in vienna and find a nice place at the countryside with atleast paddocks for the highly trained studs
🍀
I have seen them perform here in the States. There are quite a few Renaissance paintings in which they appear!
If you ever travel to South Africa, don't miss the Lippizaner horse show there. The only one accredited outside the Spanish Riding School, I believe.
How exciting. How special that they take you on a trail ride. Have you ever done a bio video and introduced your husband? I would love to know how you got into horses?
Congratulations
I get to see them in Detroit, Michigan, many years ago.
Alyssa, what boots do you like to ride in during summer/spring/autumn...?
Are you planning on coming to Hungary to try out maybe the Hungarian Sporthorse, the Nóniusz, or the Shagya-Arab at Bábolna soon? :)
But…have you not been to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna? This is where the Lippizzaner perform, and they are bred for this in Austria , in Styria to be precise in the stud of Piber. They are the most beautiful horses ❤
There are Lipizzaner horses in Cape Town in Western Cape, South Africa. 🇿🇦
They Came To Boston Massachusetts.Madison Square Garden.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
May we have Peace
Something potentially concerning that I'm noticing is a lot of the horses seem to hold their tails off to one side. I know some horses will do this because they are lame or off balance so I'm wondering why this is
I live in slovenija
Lipica
Kobilarna Lipica - Lipica Stud Farm
I was thinking that the lipizzaner horses came from portugal and not from spain. Amd although they look white, but their skin is black and have a grey coat, but for me it seems white. Most foals are not white when they're born but black and their coat change between the years.😊 A real white horse has also a white skin. But i think the lipizzaner is'nt grey because they look whitr😊
❤🇸🇮
🦉
I’ve seen a lot of Lipizzaners before but that one has a weird build like it’s too fat and the bum needs more muscle
Very brave - but clearly you were not up to this challenge.
I actually have 4 lippizzaners and they do terrible in lipica with them when we got one that was raised in lipica he was terrible he had stitches all ver him he was afraid of evereything. its just sad how they cover their abuse
What's interesting is their tail carriage is just like an Arabian....... hmmmmmm?
Not at all.
I love her videos but I just wish she would head to America to ride the Appaloosa,Quarter horse, and Mustang. Also the Tenesee Walking Horse and Mirgan horse. We have many wonderful horses that differ in personality, seat, and movement as well. Not leaset their stories. Morgan Horses were created by a man named Justin Morgan for pulling great huge trees and other things. The Appaloosa was bred by the Nez Perce Indians. They are strong and opinionated while being kind and cooperative.
The Tennesee Walker a lso has a strong personality, with the ability to give you an incredible ride.Plus being well able to pull a silkie. The most priceless of American horses is the Mustang. Sturdy and incredibly smart. You never know who you will wind up with when you breed these wonderful animals. They are icons of America and it's past. Wild, free of spirit and they know who they are.
There are several more American horses that she should check out. If she wants to ride every horse breed. Not just European breeds. :}
She has rode and made videos on American horses. They’re just older so you have to search back for them.
All breeders are special. ??...
Life in the wild may perhaps have been done better than Humans????
Maybe.??
