So lovely to see Arabian horses that LOOK like Arabian horses, not the poor mutants people seem to be breeding now. That stallion is perfection! Can't wait to see you ride a Trakhener!
And they were more representative of the temperament of traditional Arabians. Don't get me wrong, if you have even one of the traditional temperament, they are smart and if they can do less work, they will. However, once you form a bond with them, they are very people centric and will work with you and put forth a great effort to do what they are asked to.
As a Württemberger myself, I am so proud of Marbach. Watching the young horses in summer in the fields is spectacular! And the history of breeding after WWII is exactly what she described. I am very glad that Gestüt Marbach is alive and blossoming. Worth watching while you are on a trip in Germany!
Hello from the home of the Black Forest Horse...we had them pull our wedding carriage❤. I love the effort of breeding endangered horsebreeds, they are truly worth it!
I think from all german breeds shown here, the Altwürttemberger is my favourite. I adore slightly heavier warmbloods and them being such an endangered breed makes them very dear to me. I'm glad they didn't get swallowed up by the 'Deutsches Reitpferd', I hate how many breeds/lines were lost to that collective. :( Thank you for showing off some more of our precious breeds! I look forward to seeing you try out the others someday.
It's so great to feel that Marbach is in such good hands. I think you can hear from every word that Dr Astrid von Velsen-Zerweck is a real horse person. It is such a valuable breed. It's great that there are such institutions in Germany. Many thanks for this wonderful insight into the stud farm! I was moved to tears at times - especially with the silver herd.
I had heard about Marbach, but had NO IDEA of all that is going on there. What wonderful, classic Arabians (like the kind I had as a youth). I love the Black Forest Horse! That stallion was stunning, and had wonderful propulsion. And the Altwurttemberger! That breed must be saved. I am so grateful people are saving their heritage breeds before the gene pool becomes too small. This video was excellent. Please include more exposition and discussion of the breeds. I love hearing about the history. Good job! 💕🐴
That dappled gray Arabian mare - so gorgeous! A fascinating history of this stunningly gorgeous stable's past and a fascinating explanation and view of how and why it runs now - wow! And all the presented horses were beautifully groomed for their photo shoot. This might just be my favorite video to date.
All of your episodes are terrific Alyssa, but this one was outstanding. I completely agree with the previous response about Arabians! The 3 Marbach stallions you rode, along with the historical reveal of each was, WOW. Keep on keep on fellow equestrian!
I am so happy you could go to Marbach. It is a special place and you are lucky to get first hand information from its director personally. The Arabians of Marbach are still bred in the old fashion. They grow up in the harsh wheather conditions of the Schwäbische Alp, as all the horses in Marbach do, and they are healthy, strong and just wonderful!
Wow! Loved this adventure! Out of the 3 breeds, I'd love to own the Wurttemberg horse. What a wonderful all rounder ... pretty tacked up and versatile.. strong and agile yet not so tall that someone like me wouldn't have trouble mounting up. I'd love to trail ride on him!!!! I wonder if they export? 💗❣💗❣💗
We used to own a daughter of *KEM Safir (a Marbach-bred son of Hadban Enzahi and out of Sakmet from the old mare lines of Germany). I miss Queensilk. What a queen! I love the "flea-bitten" grey mare, what a treasure!
Love these big German Warmbloods. Hanoverian, Trakehners, the various sport horses. They are powerful, noble, kind and so athletic. The smaller cool bloods are also wonderful. Glad to see that people are keeping them from extinction. Thanks for another fun ride!
Thank you so much. It was very interesting to hear about the history of the horses from Marbach, but I was hoping to see you on the Arabian stallion, I love this vibrant breed so much. Their temperament and appearance are exceptionally beautiful.
I'v had a Holsteiner mare and a Hannovarian gelding when I was younger..... Both very nice horses! My mare had the most incredible attitude and personality!!! 🥰🥰 Even though I'v been riding Icelandic horses for the last 20 years I still love theese big athletic horses! Hard to choose one or the other of the breeds...... as the same stallion often appears in several studbooks!
Love to see you riding these stunning horses - and priceless to watch your happy smile while riding them ❤. I always watch your videos and enjoy them very much. Thanks for sharing your quest to ride every breed, what a great idea 😊.
I love Marbach! Some years ago it was my Birthday wish to visit there. We visited an Arabian Show - it was a Dream come true! So Happy you visited, too, and shared it with your viewers. I just loved the video, thank you so much!
“The horse is so gentle for mankind. We have been living together for years and the history of mankind would not be the same without horses.” The good Doctor pretty much says it all with this precise quote about how important horses are to our past and future. With this quote, she captures a key part of what your quest is all about. And Alyssa, the editing on this video is fantastic, it makes me feel like I was there with you and as Erin Muetz says above, “The video is better than ice cream!” Thank you for your contribution to our beautiful world.
Fabulous Arabians -do they use them to improve the warmbloods ? Their movement is exceptional as well as their dispositions. You were lucky the Egyptians parted with that stallion!
Dear Alyssa, you love horses from the dephts of your heart, and this ist wonderful. I like the Altwürrtembers, the Hanoveranesr and the Trakehners. Dalera, the four time Oympic Champion and a mare, that loves to cuddle all day, is also a Trakehner.
saw this and immediately thought back to my days there doing Shetty- (shetland ponies) sport , I made some good memories glad you got a chance to go there it’s very nice
My Kingdom for a Horse ! All of them are Unique and Beautyful . We are close to them because they are Living History ! ! ! Thank you for your Hard Work every Day !. Thouroughbred Horses are my Love because igrew up with them at the Racetrack ❤
That silver herd of Arabian mares brought so much joy to my heart! Just love Arabians. Such a pity you did not get to ride one! I love the old German warmbloods, so sturdy and free of all the problems modern sport horses have now, genetically. I grew up riding both, the old and the modern type. Trakehner and the Hanoverian are my fav. German warmbloods. I grew up in the northern part of Germany, where those breeds are everywhere. 💚 So, those two breeds next? 😊
What fantastic horses The Arabian will always be my favourite breed All the German breeds were wonderful I like the Black horse the best Thanks for a lovely show
Black Forest Breed is Sooo Gorgeous , I love the stout breeds so much , I owned a gorgeous Percheron x Quarter-horse gelding , he was my Heart ♥️ Horse
My favorite German breeds are Trakehner, Hanoverian, Holsteiner and Oldenburg. This is a most wonderful video and it gave me lots of pleasure. Now a question: how can the Marbach people keep those stallions so calm and sweet? I have been told a lot of times that stallions are very difficult to control, because they are spooky, fiery, very nervous. Thanks for this video and please keep up the wonderful work!
Stallions are usually hard to control because people keep them isolated and treat them differently. If they are properly handled they can control themselves as well as any other horse.
The hair and their coloring. The Black Forest Horse is a very beautiful horse. I have not heard of the Altwurttemberger. I have not heard of the Duello. Right now my fave is the Black forest horse.

There is a breed of pony in eastern Poland at the bialoweiza forest that a scientist bred back to be like the ancient breed 'tarpan' -google Galloping Ghosts to find out more. They would make a great featured breed! It's a wild trip - trains, buses, private cars - and you will need to find someone to book things for you in Polish. I stayed in a village called Stare Maseiwo that had these horses and i got to go on a trail ride through the ancient forest. They have no grocery store or services so plan ahead. The trail ride leader didn't speak much english and when he wanted me to trot he said 'faster', when he wanted me to canter he said 'big faster!'. He let me lead the trail ride and it was delightful.
Such a delicious video about Marbach, a beautiful place indeed. Thank you for sharing it. Do keep up with the good good preserving these magnificent beings. 👌
You are so lucky ! In my adolescent years in the eighties I grew up near Marbach and spent a lot of time there. Watching your video brings back so many souvenirs, I remember so well, childhood brain stocks visual memories in an incredible way ! I was mainly fascinated by the Arabian breed, I didn't have the chance to know Hadban Enzahi and Ghazal, but I remember fairy tale Saher. My biggest love though was black Gharib, when I first met him he gave me a little nasty bite but I still admired him just as much, that's true horse love ! I have ancestors from Germany that came to America in the 1700s and I am so happy looking at this history and seeing that Black Forest horse! Thank you so much for doing this! My ancestors also fought in all of our early wars and were also in cavalry - I always wondered if they brought their knowledge of horses from Germany to America and in relation to the horses that they rode
Fantastic video. I loved all of the horses. The German breeds are so old and interesting. I have to say, I didn't like Arabians much, here in North America, but that stallion absolutely took my breath away. What an adventure. Thank you for sharing!
I missed what area this stud is located. 😮 I love that they have a variety of breeds. And, especially, the old style ( original ) Arabians.❤ ❤❤ These horses are all gorgeous 😍.
What a privilege to ride such honored and special breed. I’m really hoping they can save these breeds! Thank you so much for educating and showing us these magnificent horses !! ❤️🐴
This brings my back home. Born and raised in Germany I used to go home once a year and remember visiting Marbachs studfarm. Notice how clean everything is! Since the death of my mother I haven't been back. Thanks for this video!
All the breeds I learned in elementary school thru college via massive horse library, computer games, and riding since middle school…. Soo good! My horse nerd insides are happy watching this. ❤❤❤
I had heard of the Black Forest horse years ago, but didn’t remember that they are a draft breed! The Warmblood, next, i had not heard about, but is beautiful. Loved seeing the " old style" Arabians ❤. Always love seeing your next video and the people, horses, buildings and scenery in each video! 😊❤
Awesome and interesting video as usual. Not a huge a fan of arabs, but the black forest horse is a new breed to me. She is right it has a fairytale/ whimsical quality to it, its a beautiful little breed.
I like all these 3 breeds from Germany, how could one not? 😊 Since I'm German myself. But my favorite breed are the Oldenburger ❤️ I had one for 17 years and he was the love of my life!
So lovely to see Arabian horses that LOOK like Arabian horses, not the poor mutants people seem to be breeding now. That stallion is perfection! Can't wait to see you ride a Trakhener!
Agreed! Breeders have really screwed up their faces and it's not attractive.
@@ponylovermadden4560I've noticed that and I'm not even a horse person.

That's why I prefer the Crabbet lines
Trakehners are wonderful. I've owned a Trakehners all my life and am pretty much hooked on them. Brilliant partners.
Arabians with more classic muzzles are such a joy to see.
I agree! Hopefully, the current look will lose popularity and these studs and mares will help improve the look going forward.
I agree with you. That dished muzzle on modern Arabians is horrible. I’ve read that it is causing breathing problems in horses.

I like the Black Forest Horse
I wouldn't mind owning one of them. I am senior and could use a solid and sturdy equine companion.
@@goettling and they are just so kind looking and cute!
Love how the Arabs walked right up on the cameraman! Nashid is a LOOKER and a MOVER, and seems to have that friendly streak that most seem to posess!
Agree! I wonder why that was the breed where she did not ride the stallion (or even a mare).
I think from all german breeds shown here, the Altwürttemberger is my favourite. I adore slightly heavier warmbloods and them being such an endangered breed makes them very dear to me. What an honor you were given to be able to ride such wonderful horses. I have to admit, shamefully, that these are all new breeds to me.
I'm owning one of the rare Altwürttemberger horses. They are such wonderful horses!

Speechless with admiration for these beautiful horses and the humans caring for them.
What an amazing place - preserving history, breed, tradition - well done!
No, I never heard of the Altwurtemberger. Looks like a perfect all around horse for work or riding.

Stunning horses, lovely people, good vibes all around :)
Thank you so much. It was very interesting to hear about the history of the horses from Marbach, but I was hoping to see you on the Arabian stallion, I love this vibrant breed so much. Their temperament and appearance are exceptionally beautiful.

Alyssa. Thank you for the history of these. Beautiful horses 🐎🐎
Thanks for watching, Kathy!
They are so wonderfully compact and graceful! I can understand how people would love them as a family, all-around horse.
I'm glad to see efforts to retain and preserve the endangered breeds. Beautiful horses. I have heard about the Black Forests.
