He has to bring LSU to the playoffs, the offense has to have the ability to score from any part of the field, the defense has to be "average", the special teams has to be "good", there can be no upsets, and they have to play elite, mistake free football in games they are underdogs. LSU doesn't NEED to win a national championship but they need to be in SERIOUS contention.

I’m not sure where Coach Kelly was labeled as an overrated coach rather than the top shelf, gets results type. Yes LSU had a SHOCKINGLY bad defense last season, but it sure looks like they have taken immediate action to right those wrongs and get things going again for the program. He’s consistently produced results throughout his career, and though he doesn’t have a National Championship ring, most coaches today don’t. I don’t have actual statistics in front of me, but off the hip simply based on having watched many of his teams games through the years I’d guess him to typically win around 10 games per season and I think that’s top shelf personally…

This includes the consensus #1 QB. This includes load of Louisiana based recruits ... which gives you more forward looking staying power in the face of the NIL environment. Several of the players are coming here BECAUSE of the coaching changes. Corey Raymond is the architect of the historical DBU. LSU's next class is currently higher rated than Georgia, ND, Oregon, AtM, OU, Michigan, Tenn, Clemson, Texans, Miami, FSU, ... and on, and on. How can any review of a coaching staff leave out the scorching pace of a programs's recruiting?

We've got to shake this "Natty or they suck" trend...
You had people screaming for years that Tony V was a overrated baseball coach at Tennessee because "He hasn't won". He took a team nearly all the way there (aka further than hundreds of other teams), lost nearly ALL of the impact players on that roster, and still went BACK to the same spot in the NCAA Tourney the next year! And then won the dam thing the year after that!
It's like the Rick Barnes thing at Tennessee, we were meh at basketball, and then he started taking us to the round of 32 every year or maybe the sweet 16 every few years. Lots of fans wanted him out because "we should be better", and really they forgot the years we barely even made it or didn't. Then he gets us to the Elite 8 where we got robbed from going to the final 4, and everyone finally shuts up and respects him as a good coach.

Kelly made the massive mistake of firing the LSU defensive staff upon arriving in Baton Rouge. He has since fixed his error and rehired all the key guys he got rid of. All he did was delay the massive success LSU will have now that the best defensive staff in the country is back at the reigns.

Back to back 10 win season after inheriting a team with 39 scholarship players and no depth on either line of scrimmage. Now they have the best offensive line in the country, they have been recruiting very well, and there is actual depth now. I agree but also disagree - just because he took such a massive downturn when Venables left, which makes Dabo look like he just made a very good hire and rode that wave for a good while considering how loyal BV was to stick around. Now he's looking very up and down, and won't use the portal (which I do admire, somewhat, btw) So I guess I'm saying I see why he would be a "top ten but maybe not top 5" to most people

@@Nathan-ct9eh What 5 coaches have done more than him? Its funny that you mention BV considering all the people who chirp that he rode "generational QBs" to titles. Also the defense hasn't gotten worse under Wes. Besides that, the idea that some put guys like Dan Lanning (who hasn't won a big game yet) or Mike Norvell (1-2 vs Dabo), or Brian Kelly (1-3), or Sark, above him is ludicrous. Using the transfer portal doesn't mean you are a great coach just like not using it doesn't make you a bad coach. Dabo has two 9 win season & one 6 win season. They rest are all double digit season. They won the league title the year before last and were a FG away from making the CFP....with DJU at QB. People just hate Dabo. That's the reality.
