So here's the thing: I think the last time I reviewed a TV was 2021 and it was mainly because most of the great TVs were the flagship 2 to $5,000 LGs and Samsung's of the world, and the premium sub $1500 category was good, but not great. Sure, technologies like QLED have now trickled down to them, but there was always something missing. Either their UI's were slow, or they didn't support the latest HDMI for your new PS5, or the screen quality was just good… but for the money. So what if I told you that the best bang for the buck TV you can buy right now can be found for less than $1000? Sort of..
Well, this is the TCL QM8 2023, what the company calls an unmatched Flagship, and what I'm gonna have to agree with now I've spent some time with it. I know we already saw the 2024 variants at CES, which we covered extensively, but since those are due until the Spring, this might just be the best bang for the buck deal you can find right now ahead of the Super Bowl. Yes, I must agree with you. I purchased the 85-inch QM8 myself and the picture quality brightness and color with excellent black levels.
Very very close to OLED.
I think we're going with the QM8 in the 85" size but want to see what the new 2024 model looks like with 5,000+ nits and 5,000 dimming zones! 🙃

TCL and Hisense are killing it at the highend level
Android/Google TV does also have a bottom meny you can use... And you can install button remapper app etc.
Took advantage of the superbowl sale on Amazon and got the 65". I'm constantly impressed with it every time I turn it on. Not only do I have my PS5 and cable box hooked up to it, but also my pc with an AMD 6800 XT graphics card. Initially, I couldn't get the 144Hz to show up on the control panel. But after the latest OTA update, everything is running as it should.
I just got my TCL QM8 75" and I'm THOROUGHLY impressed. This is coming from an LG 65" oled owner. This is as close to Oled that you can get. Now why did I go with this instead... my Lg oled had burn in. This tv picture is absolutely mind blowing. Once you pair the remote, this tv is a breeze. Not laggy and super smooth ui.

Encouraging comment. I have a 55 LG C2 OLED, and just decided to order the QM8 65 for another room. Was kinda worried that LG spoiled me and I won't like this TV quite as much. But after seeing it in person at my local Best Buy, and watching reviews, I was pretty sure I won't be disappointed.

@@markmd9 actually it hasn't been the case at all. Really like QM8 and really impressed with the picture! The only issue I have with it is I'm having issues with my soundbar and ARC, I have a few days to decide if I want to return it, and even with the issues I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it, it's that good.
In comparison to the C2, it's odd I actually find the C2 looking really dim in comparison. I've also noticed I'm getting some burn in on the C2 and it's not even that old. I still love OLED but I'm really impressed with mini-LED and think that may actually be the best type of TV going forward, to the point that if I had a higher budget I might go with a more expensive mini LED over an OLED.
@@LarryMontefortewhats your issue with the HDMI arc? My HDMI arc is actually kinda glitchy on my TCL 6 Series, sometimes everything is plugged in like normal but theres no sound. Usually have to reset the TV and play around with the sound settings by switching between Dolby Audio modes. Eventually it always works again though

Yes I agree. I have a TCL in my bedroom and it's been perfect, my wife loves it too and wants to change all our house tv to TCL and I agree. I'm going to sell my lg oled for this TV

Do I have to utilize Google with this TV? I just want a TV that I can hook up to my local Cable provider (Rogers in Canada). It will not be connected to the internet.
All the reviews I have seen show setting up Google when setting it up.
Can I skip that and just hook up my "cable box"?

In the UK, this is marketed as the QM8B. I have the 65" version and I'm very happy with it.

just mounted the 75-inch on my wall; looks great but the colors seem wonky. Too bright red and blue somehow?
I calibrated my TV from Rtings perhaps you can do the same with the Qm8
Paid 2700 for my QN90C, the QM8 is now 1700 at Best Buy. As much as I like the QN90C I really wish I paid 1k less and got the QM8. I got the 85 inch TV

Replaced my SONY Bravia 2017 with a TCL C646 and couldn't be happier be it performance, color or value.
This was $750 on Amazon few weeks ago
Best Buy is selling the massive 85 inch QM8 model for $1399.99
Weirdly theyre selling it for 100 less than the 75 and the same price as the 65

Great video. I was looking at the QM8 for a gaming TV. But a few things turned me off on it.
1. Only can pass through 2.0 audio thru ARC.
2. No models smaller than 65 inches.
That's when I decided to get the HiSense U8K Yeah, I lose dimming zones, 695 to the QM8's 1080 (for the 65 inch model).
The QM8 is a tad brighter in certain instances. But the audio pass through, smaller size and price ($749), I pushed the button on the U8K.
That said, Both TV's are great!
Just plug your consoles via 2.1 hdmis to the the TV and you will still get 7. 1 lossless audio.
This tv is beautiful it’s like the tv is a 20 year old girl she’s ready to impress visually but the hiccups make you hit its back and say burp baby it’s a affordable tv and it’s a great tv for the price technically. But on hand and in person not worth it because if you don’t have the true immersive content it defeats the purpose of calling it qled tho the beautiful brightness is gorgeous the buggy effects will leave you unimpressed good led tv but not true qled
I have the 6-series google variant in 65in. This seems like a decent upgrade. The 6-series is amazing imo. Great 4k 120hz mini-led and the snappiest tv I’d used but this new one looks a bit faster. This also has the quantum dot layer and a higher peak brightness which is nice. What I really want is the ability to use native AirPlay. THAT, would be sick. Don’t know how TCL managed it.
I hate buying tvs, it’s not as easy to sell an older model and upgrade like a phone would be. Idk if I could get another tv in my wall once taking the current one down. Shitting apartment with metal studs.

For whatever reason, I always felt that Roku OS was a bit faster than Google TV. Google TV still feels a bit bloated unless your running apps only mode. Still for the price no matter what OS this is a solid value.
Sony, LG, and Samsung are the way to go.

TCL and Hisense is kicking Samsung Sony and LG butt with their QLED and Mini QLED models in 2023 and 2024 now.

I have a Sony. Brilliant TV. But.. Other than slightly better picture and motion handling there is no reason to go Sony again. I take the TCL any day.
And LG? ONLY if it is their OLEDs.. ALL other models uses IPS that has a low contrast ratio.
And Samsung? No.. If they don't support Dolby Vision they will not get my money.
