  • Li He was a very unique poet in the Chinese poetic history. His poems about supernatural phenomena stand out even when comparing to poetry giants such as Li Bai and Wang Wei. This video presents one of his poem about an exorcise ritual performed by a priestess. I am sure you will be surprised. So Enjoy this video!

@@dr.gaosclassroom I’m on my THIRD rewatch of this subtle, nuanced, and insightful presentation. Dr Gao, your knowledge is impressive. I would NEVER be able to appreciate or understand this poem without your hard-earned expertise. You are making the world a better place. Your offering is priceless. I feel so lucky to benefit from your knowledge and passion.

@@theorivas1 Wow, thank you so much for your complement. I am also very happy to that I find a friend like you who share my passion for Classical Chinese poetry. You are a friend who appreciates and values my knowledge and work and I am very grateful I have a friend like you. There is a Chinese saying for such a friend, it is called 知音 and there is a beautiful story behind the term. I am thinking of making a video about the friendship between 元稹 and 白居易 and tell the story. They exchanged over a hundred poems with each other and expressed their deep feelings for each other. Thank you again for your support!!

Thank you for the complements for my jacket. It is a rather old one. I think I bought it nearly 30 years ago!! Wow, I almost forget how old it is!!
I am very happy that you find Li He's poem interesting!
Yes, Li He had a very unusual style and was very peculiar about words in his poetry. I might do a few more of his poems.

My favorite ghost movie is Ghost Busters 2. I felt so inspired during the scene accompanied by the Bobby Brown song, On Our Own!

A western equivalent to the 9 tail fox would be a succubus or incubus. This was a great video, I appreciate the depth of detail in the poem, so much activity and movement in the words I could literally see the events unfolding. This was very interesting and I would love to her more of his poems. ❤

Thank you for your kind comments!! I am certainly going to make more such videos in the future!
I checked out the succubus and incubus. I see the bat wings in them, are they related in some way to bats or are they transformed from bats?

My favorite ghost story would be Charles Dicken's classic book A Christmas Carol. The character Jacob Marley represents in my opinion the karma we create in the way we treat others.
