Listening to this beautiful sound brings calm to a world gone mad. What Mr. Tom Petty wrote is typical of the musical genius that he is and will always be as far as I’m concerned. BlackBerry Smoke picked it up and did something magical with it as well. Their own genius combined with a beautiful invited guest, Amanda Shires, doing an equally mind blowing job on her violin is sheer poetry. Thank you all for entertaining all of us. Peace, love and music to all!

To my estranged husband of 31years. Happy 29th wedding anniversary, 30 + years together . 4/18/1993-6/10/2021. I listened to the words of this awesome song of Tom Petty's today & damn if it wasn't perfect. Blackberry Smoke, you guys are amazing artists & the Amanda Shires did a beautiful job in your duo. God bless you all!

well... Whiskey Meyers is up there as well. As of today 8/23/19 they released two songs from their new album set to be available in September 2019 and I am NOT at all impressed by what I've heard so far. Today is the first day I am seriously giving Blackberry Smoke a listen to and so far I have to say they are damned good!
I just heard this last night ..bumper music on a radio station talk show...come across Blackberry Smoke years ago...true artists. Does bring tears .. bittersweet memories and realities of whats real and important..and only the lucky get:)❤
Man when I first heard this version, it brought tears to my eyes. Tom Petty meant so much to so many people and this song stirred up that emptiness of him being gone. But Lord knows he’ll never be forgotten. The Smoke covering this and adding the fiddle was absolutely fandamtastic !!! This version rolls through my playlist often, and I even play it on a loop. RIP Tom !!!
Damn, his voice is just so perfect for this song, as it is with every BBS song, or anyone for that matter, but this one especially he has the tone and control which is just so right.
This is really, really good. Charlie's voice fits this song perfectly and Amanda adds her violin and voice and you have a slice of heaven. Tom's songs are timeless and i would think he would be pleased with this version. Wow!
There is so much genius in this version of this song. The fact that this is one take is monumental. It’s very rare to have something like this and I’m glad that this version of this song exists.
Recently discovered Amanda, love her music. The violin and guitar at the end gave me chills. So perfect. I can assure you that Tom is smiling down on them 😅
Tom petty!!.. .great tribute to one of the greatest bands ever lived.....rest in peace my brother!!....I don't understand why people dislike great bands such as BlackBerry smoke.....listen!!! all there is keeping Tom petty,s music and memories alive!!....
The way you did this song brings tears to my eyes I listen to it every day an it brings me Peace an Love it’s now my husband an I favorite song when I first watched this on our Tv I turned an looked at my husband an we both had tears in our eyes it really hit home been married for 52 years only seventeen at the time thank you for this beautiful song
I love these guys, there really aren't a lot of musicians capable of doing such a great job with a cover and from my perspective its a great example of just how much talent all of guys have!!!
I can't believe I never heard this before! Simply beautiful rendition of this great Tom Petty classic. Thanks y'all! BTW, Y'all know I do love me some Blackberry Smoke.
Watched these guys over 10yrs ago. A local band to me(Isolated Atoms) supported them on their tour of Britain, and I have been hooked ever since. Brilliant band. I would love to have the chance to see them live again.
I gotta believe that this is the perfect tribute to Tom Petty. I am moved to tears by the haunting violin and that makes it even more touching. A beautiful and moving tribute to a wonderful musician RIP Tom Petty and a wonderful performance by everyone!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What a beautiful and a brilliant rendition , it just elevates the original , beautiful vocals built with pathos, lovely strumming and super cello , in word word, Brilliant!!
This is one of THE Most Beautiful Cover tunes I've ever heard! The Violin just made the song better!! She's amazing! Blackberry Smoke ALWAYS makes My Day!! What a Wonderful Tribute. Charlie...You're the Best!
I don't know how many times I have listened to this song, but every time I feel the same emotion that I felt the first one! It is simply gorgeous !!! Your music is simply beautiful. Every time I listen to you, the notes of your melodies touch the strings of my heart. Thanks Blackberry Smoke !!!!
IMO this is by far the best cover ive ever heard.Pretty sure Tom Petty would love this.I mustve played this tune 100 times in the 3 weeks ive heard of BBS.The band has brought this tune to an absolute higher lever, if that was possible.
I love this song, just about 100% of a love song, it’s the woman leaving some poor chump crying. This is for us guys. Plus Blackberry smoke is just a fantastic band, love ‘em 👍👍
This Panhandle Girl has lived and loved under the Legendary gifts of Tom growing up in the 70s and 80s.. Thank ya'll for bringing such a moving tribute to this song
@@stevelewis1982 what I know of Miss Shires is she is generous with her time to local charities, she is a talented musician and kicked ass with these Georgia boys. I defended this country for 20 years, but am sure Miss Shires cares as little about my political opinion as I do hers. See I defended, with my husband and brother YOUR right to disagree. God bless!
I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. The music🎺 today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
The soft breeze of black berry Smoke is blowing my troubles away I'm the the lucky one for about four years now thanks to the band and Amanda and Jimmy
Amanda Shires makes that fiddle cry, or actually, whatever she wants it to do. Kinda sad she married to Jason Isbell, lol, as talented as he is.....SMDH
I saw Tom a couple of times in the 1980s... This version makes me shiver, even cry (if men are allowed to cry)... You got to let it go .They all stop by some times for a HUGS and KISSES cards galore stepkids

Keep feeling it brother. You got something real you can't deny it .love walks in
Nice! I've been a longtime fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ever since Damn the Torpedoes blew up FM radio and this is the first time in all of those years that I heard a cover of one of their songs that I actually enjoyed listening to.just as much. In the past, I never found a cover that came close. Beautiful work.
Walk Off the Earth did a nice tribute to Tom, too. Your comment echoes my experience. Since I was 12 (back in 79), I have loved Tom and his music. My heart broke last year as my fear I would never see/hear him live came true ... I just couldn't afford the high ticket price when he came through Cincinnati only months before his passing. That day was filled with so much sadness and though the Vegas madness overtook the media, my personal sense of loss over Tom leaving was really so deep and profound, I just slipped into a tender place within. I lost my wax years ago (when I was 36), but had all my Heartbreakers albums until then. I remember the inner sleeve having a photo of Tom in mirrored aviators and how I would display that sleeve while spinning the disc, thinking he was the absolute epitome of cool. I wrote poetry for many years and knew the agony of searching for the "just right" words and I admired how Tom wrote, the words he chose ... Man, I miss him ... And to lose two of my huge musical loves to opioids infuriates me still. (Prince being the other one. I grew up in the Twin Cities and was blessed to see him on his Purple Rain tour.) I honestly don't blame either of them -- I suffer with severe chronic pain and have been prescribed opioids to relieve it -- no, I instead think that more effective treatments for pain could be found if greed wasn't such a huge factor ... But I digress. Tom was an absolute treasure and I am so thankful and grateful for TH-cam and all the uploads of his music and interviews, etc. I watched the documentary and at the end of it, started it again. Haha ! Seriously, I felt like I had spent 4 hours with a best friend and didn't want to say goodbye. If you have never seen footage of his friendship with Garry Shandling, I recommend it. He was a real honest and true friend. And ........ whew. I ALMOST didn't listen to this but I love BlackBerry Smoke so much, I thought I would chance it. Maybe it is because Tom is gone now, maybe the slower tempo, I don't know for sure -- all I know is we were all lucky when we found Tom. His music is firmly embedded in the soundtrack of my life and the friendships he had with the Heartbreakers were truly inspiring. The totality of EVERYTHING they faced together and came out the other side of is nothing short of beautiful. Friendship and love. It doesn't get much better, does it ? Namaste
Damn! You guys 🎸🎤🎹🎻🎶❤ the sound, the harmonies, the violin and the melodie, just made my hair stand! I really really hope I'll get the chance to see you sometime ❤ Rock on - and keep safe on the road!

@@scgiants good music is hard to find, but you got lucky. I love them both

I just heard this last night ..bumper music on a radio station talk show...come across Blackberry Smoke years ago...true artists. Does bring tears .. bittersweet memories and realities of whats real and important..and only the lucky get:)❤
coast to coast brought you here too? 😁
RIP Tom !!!
Blackberry Smoke ! Thanks for having Amanda Shires ! She is one of my favorites !
My daughter introduced me to Blackberry Smoke only recently....They are amazing. So much better than anything we hear today.
Wow!
Tengo 65 años y descubrí a estos jóvenes por TH-cam. Estoy muy sorprendido. Como NO sabía de ellos. Son excelentes.
There is so much genius in this version of this song. The fact that this is one take is monumental. It’s very rare to have something like this and I’m glad that this version of this song exists.
Yes sir< I agree!
My name is Pablo.i live un Argentina (Mendoza).thanks for You músic
THE handsdown BEST cover ever!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Recently discovered Amanda, love her music.
The violin and guitar at the end gave me chills. So perfect.

I love these guys, there really aren't a lot of musicians capable of doing such a great job with a cover and from my perspective its a great example of just how much talent all of guys have!!!
Nice to hear a band where you feel they're playing for each other rather than against.
racketman2u can tell they are tight

Yes!!!! Love Tom Petty but this is better than the original!!
adding Amanda's violin was the key.
Watched these guys over 10yrs ago.
A local band to me(Isolated Atoms) supported them on their tour of Britain, and I have been hooked ever since.
Brilliant band.
I would love to have the chance to see them live again.
This has got to be one of the best covers of all time. I can listen to this on repeat all day

Charlie melted that guitar into that violin..an he sings it so good..is there anything he can't sing or play..he's a master!!!
Best rendition of this song I’ve ever heard, honestly.
What a beautiful and a brilliant rendition , it just elevates the original , beautiful vocals built with pathos, lovely strumming and super cello , in word word, Brilliant!!
This Petty cover gives good as it gets. Wonderful musicianship and Charlie's voice...heavenly.

Hello Anglia 👋 how are you ??
I love this song, just about 100% of a love song, it’s the woman leaving some poor chump crying. This is for us guys. Plus Blackberry smoke is just a fantastic band, love ‘em 👍👍
An absolutely stunning rendition. Superb.
Tom would be proud to hear these dudes play one of his songs, this is just awesome….👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This Panhandle Girl has lived and loved under the Legendary gifts of Tom growing up in the 70s and 80s.. Thank ya'll for bringing such a moving tribute to this song
Been watching Amanda's live stream during this self isolation and it brought me back here. Best cover I ever heard
Amanda Shires really shines here, well they all shine. This is incredible.
Lubbock Texas is right proud of our native daughter, and she nails it with these Georgia boys!
She's a commie!
God bless!
Thanks, I was wondering who she is
@@stevelewis1982
And just why is she a 'Commie'?
Absolutely beautiful. Whoever down voted this song needs to buy a hearing aid.
Westgate Digital - hearing aid would not even help these morons😂...maybe they are robots.
I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. The music🎺 today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
This is definitely a f ing classic.
Tom would have put them on the map, no doubt a bout it.

Yes a calming comes to me every time i hear this amazing re-take of Tom's song, Thanks Blackberry Smoke & Amanda Shires
Shiver and cry with emotions and memories of time gone by...Thank you - Well done, I will have to check out some of their other tracks... Yes, what a fantastic tribute to a wonderful guy... I'm 49 now..got a lot of heartache and break. But by God I know love well when I Love a woman it's for real and I show them what real is.it will drive them REALLY crazy. Just HAVE never been with the Real Deal.a woman thinks that all men are the. Same they roll up on a real mo fo deep lover it's for life. I still love them all. Some call with ultimatums and I say marry him and they think they're going to really show me. Ha.i have knack for turning a beautiful high class woman into a 7th grader with hormones all over the joint. You got to let it go .They all stop by some times for a HUGS and KISSES cards galore stepkids
What can you do ?I feel the love sneaking up on me .I simply can't be a hater no hate allowed in my home this is a house of love. A fire place my old guitar and my smiling dog and the constant feel of knowing I am well loved.a man with those tools can get through anything. It ain't conventional. But it's working out.
The gaslight anthem do a great version of this song
@@jamesdodsworth3481, thanks. I'll definitely check it out.
Namaste
I agree
Corey Taylor does a good acoustic version of this as well
I always liked that song, now I love ❤️ it ! Tom would have been jealous RIP - awesome lyrics!!
