I started listening Lynyrd Skynyrd when my son was a teenager. His favorite was Freebird and this one. Simple Man is a classic. My son died in an accident when he was 26 and when I hear these songs, it reminds me of him. It also makes me sad but love the words. I am 80 years old now and still rock when I hear this group

I listened to this song A LOT after my grandfather died. He didn't listen to the band, nor did I, very much. But he was a humble, intelligent, and modest man who accomplished a lot and I cherish the memories I have of him. Before he died, he gave me both his army canteen and his combat knife from basic training from his service in World War II, something my uncles really wanted because he knew I'd cherish them more than anyone. I keep them 100% safe and they're priceless to me. But his biggest accomplishment and the one I remember him best for is that when he worked for Bell Aerospace in Buffalo, NY they were subcontracted by Grumman, who was contracted by NASA to build the Lunar Module to land astronauts on the Moon. My grandfather who was a brilliant mechanical engineer designed the agena rocket engine for satellites, but they used his design for the ascent engine on the Lunar Module. That engine would fire after every Moon Walk (Lunar EVA) to bring the astronauts back to Lunar Orbit, and eventually come back home. Without my grandfather, and many thousands of others of course, our journey to the Moon would never have happened. My grandfather was very thrilled to be a part of that moment in our country's history and had some awesome stories about it. However, he remained extremely humble and modest. Thanks Lynyrd Skynyrd for getting through those really long months of mourning my grandpa, I really appreciate it!

Hell no I'm from Maine. Skynyrd is one of my favorite bands ever my mom sang this song to me when I was little and we danced together to it when I got married for mother and son dance. Song always will have special place in my heart.

I agree with you 100 percent. Funny that their producer didn't want to record it. he didn't think it was good enough. So Ronnie told him to leave the studio and take a hike while they recorded it. Thank god Ronnie was the bad ass that he was. :-)
RIP to Gary & all the LS band members. Grew up with Skynard, high school keg parties were the best with some Lynard Skynard going in Northern California 1981 - 1983. Johnny is awesome taking over for his brother & Donnie's band 38 Special was great also "Wild Eyed Southern Boys".
Kegger parties and Skynyrd in Northern California in the late 70's are some of my best memories too...I guess we were all doing the same thing. Good times.

Music that is this good and made with feeling. It has that message touch and it's real. Nothing to show. They present it in such a way that you feel it. That leaves the feeling of wow.
I’ve seen hundreds of videos of them live and plenty of times in concert but I have to say this exact performance is nothing short of magical. The timing, the vocals, the guitar tone that all three of them are cranking out, loud AF but complete clarity!! Probably the top performance of simple man during the modern incarnation of this band!! The greatest Southern Rock band of all time. In fact if their was no Skynyrd theirs no southern rock. Just the Allman Brothers playing blues with a heavy rock and jam influence. Don’t get me wrong their where and still are some great southern bands, but Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet were the ones to put rock in southern rock! I call this video my anthem because at the end of any visit with a friend whether at my place or theirs, we would watch and sing along because it means something to so many..music inspires emotion and the inspiration that I personally receive is sent from above, a soothing energy that resonates with so many, whatever that may look like from your own perspective. How precious it is to have these memories about the people we love. For me, I am the only son of my mother, and that in itself begins my relationship with this song that will last forever.
My brother Aaron passed in 2020 on June 22. This was his song. His best friend suggested it for the funeral. Now when I hear or I'm feeling melancholy and this song is playing I sing along. As an actual artist I feel the need to sing this song to my sons and grandson. I love the lyrics and maybe one day when I'm not so sad I'll return to Nashville and sing your song. I pray you won't mind.

I'm not far from Nashville... and I play this song pretty flawlessly as far as the "rhythm" guitar. I put rhythm in quotes because it's picking, not strumming... so not what I describe as typical rhythm. I can play the lead too, but I can't do both at the same time :P Anyway, not that this will ever happen but if you make it to Nashville at some point, find a way to contact me... I lost my brother Aaron August 22,2018 and we played this song for him also.
Saw these guys at music festival in southern Alberta in 1999. Started to rain lightly but there were so many people packed closely together and full of antifreeze that the rain turned to mist above our heads and we really did not get wet. Freaking magical scene.

Lucky enough to have seen them 3 times in the mid 70’s at the peak of the original line up. Such a great band - great writing and performances.
My grandmother died a year ago. It had been so terrible watching her decline, but it was time to let her go in peace. When I went to her house for the last time, I played this song as loud as I could and sat there reflecting on the memories we made together. This song, and so many others by Skynyrd, are so incredibly relatable and make us remember why we live. God bless.
