Loved this as a kid. The uniqueness of it's stuck with me. The different world, levels, enemies, certain mechanics, etc. The mario land series in general was so well done. The charm was there
Makes want to cry when I was kid playing this game and how much it means to me now since I’m going to be 29 this year. 2021...who else appreciates it more than they did when we were kids...
That "oh crap close call" jump @ 51 seconds brought back so many memories of frustration in childhood.. This was one of my favorite games when the GB first came out.
As a child I've never reached 2-3, but thank you for letting me remember my experience playing it as a child :) And yes, did I try and stuck on it eternally.
This colorized version of Super Mario Land may be unofficial but it looks great, and better yet, it runs just fine on the original Game Boy Color hardware!
I've barely started watching this video and I'm already shocked! Whoever made this patch is awesome! But is there similar patch to SML2: 6 Golden Coins?
Ive forgotten how different this game was to the main series. exploding troopas, no pause in transformations, fireballs can collect coins, and a more interesting atmosphere
knuclear2010 Oh yeah, that's what you get with Yokoi at the helm instead of Miyamoto! The sequel was Yokoi as well. I liked them just as much as the main Mario games.
My Gameboy Color in lime color should be arriving this coming tuesday, I can’t wait!! Watching this and bothering my wife every single time I remembered the details of this game Lol. So excited!!
I was playing about month ago in the living room on the 3DS Virtual Console and my dad recognized the music from when he used to have this game on his gameboy :D
i forgot about it and seeing you play makes me feel nostalgic and really brings back fond childhood memories, thank you for that and btw you play very well. really satisfied 👍👍
Wait.. So you're telling me that 7 year old me was *only the plane level away from beating the game*??? I'll have to dust off my gameboy colour and give it new batteries!!
Man, i literally was looking for this comment. I remember one day when I had a flu, i came that far as well. And i was certain it was just too hard. Looking this video i was like: "wait... thats it?" Its good to hear that out there there is another one going through the same. I hear you man.
Just in time for Game Boy's 30th birthday, toruzz has just released a brand-new colorized version that he calls Super Mario Land DX, and it's an impressive update. Be sure to check out my new recording of it here: th-cam.com/video/D2as4Z3WwMM/w-d-xo.html
How did you play that entire game with no deaths? You must have played this thousands of times to get good at it! Also, I love Super Mario Land and its music! Thanks for the nostalgia!
What a great job! It's amazing to see what people are doing with old games/hardware these days. But I have to say, the music is still the star of the show!
I love the contrast between this and the 2nd game. 2nd is low key one of the best most creative Mario games of all time, but they went for higher detail leaving you with less viewable space on screen. Meanwhile, the 1st is a master class in minimal sprite design for optimal viewing space while maintaining enemy creativity and core series gameplay. Watching both in color thanks to dedicated fans is just wonderful.
Y'all had to have had some mad gaming skills if you were able to get through this game, from the looks of it. I wasn't even born yet. I laud all of you who played and beat this game.
Don't wanna sound like one of those 'I am supergood, so it's supereasy'-people. But compared to most other games of that era of gaming this was probably in the lower third when it comes to difficulty.
The nostalgia is painful. I remember playing this when I was younger, I still remember the music. I didn't know it was called Super Mario 'Land' though haha.
I remember a part of my life when I thought the Mario Land star theme came before the Can Can xD The one in Mario Land 2 always gets me pumped up but this one is hilarious with the benefit of hindsight
I never played the game to the end, cause of the difficulty of the game .. ^^ But i was a kid .. soo .. Even the second level was soo hard for me when I think back to the old time! What a great game on the Gameboy and the Gameboy colour, damn ... Thanks for showing it to us again :) Thumbs up ^.^
i randomly had a core memory of this game pop into my head. i google mario game with stonehedge heads and found it. the music really set the nostalgia in full. the water level where you shoot was my favorite level, but also caused me the most grief. what a great game.
i remember when the gameboy was out all you used to hear is either the sound of tetris or this classic eminating from youngsters gameboys, including mine :D ahh those were the days

It may look primitive by modern standards, but this was an early gaming masterpiece.
the soundtrack will always be timeless
Not sure how many hours I have spent in this game when I was a child. Thanks for bringing all these memories back to me.

Still is
No. Gameboy much more better than Iphone X.
I would like a gameboy more than an iPhone
Not anymore. The game is on my phone now.

Can you play Lego Alpha team for Gameboy color?

This game is so beautifully-designed. I wish they made games like these still. I really love the music.
This game got me through so many family road trips!!
There is a bit of graphical glitches. Look at the timer.
