I agree, I thought the gold looked stunning with that creamy white! Fingers crossed it sells super quick.

That turned out beautifully! I love the subtle difference between the paint vs paint wash. It looks way more modern.

The mellow color choices really helped balance all the heavy details of this piece, well done 👍 I’m trying to get up the nerve to get a sprayer but as I don’t normally paint pieces I’ve been reluctant but, seeing you use it for a top coat makes me want to get one 😉

Thank you so much! Girrrrrl, get yourself a sprayer! I love mine so much. I use the Wagner Flexio 4000 and I think it’s super easy to learn with. Since I’ve bought my sprayer I’ve painted maybe 2 pieces with a paint brush/roller. Applying top coat with the sprayer is a breeze too. I’ll never go back. Highly recommend!

DIY Danie on YT sands details like that with her orbital sander. There is a sponge first then the sandpaper disk so it allows the sandpaper to mold around all the details. Hope that makes sense LOL

I’ve heard surfprep makes sanding pads that fit other sanders so I’ll definitely have to check that out. No need to give myself carpal tunnel! 🤣 I’ll check out that channel too.

Unpopular opinion, but I felt that it looked better before. However, I'm a fan of antiquity and like that sort of style. I know if I had a piece like that, I'd restore the color and finish and make changes to the inside to be more practical, but keep the outside looking regal. idk

Outdated? Classical pieces are always in good taste and can be used with a variety of types and colors of rugs, furnishings, drapes, etc., and throughout the years. My advice to young people on a budget is to buy high quality classic pieces from estate sales, pieces that will last you a lifetime and can be used in any decor as you move from home to home.

I think whenever there is a wood that has its natural patterns it is always better to save and modernize that original pattern. Maybe just use some wood stain and less of that lacquer or whatever that becomes yellow with time. I think you just hated that style from the beginning because you are too young to remember that style of furniture or how precious those pieces were. Rescuing such a gorgeous piece and calling it ugly, I think only gen Z-er could do. I don’t judge your work, obviously there are people who love it and you do too, but if you wanted a modern piece, go for a modern design. I think doing a very neat job of sanding and covering all blemishes in boring white color didn’t transform it to something special. It was something special the way it was, just worn out. I have absolutely no experience in woodworking, I just enjoy watching some furniture rescue channels and some people do such wonderful meticulous jobs transforming really old and ugly pieces to works of art but they call those pieces beautiful because they want to save their beauty in something new not just destroy them.
