If you use a potato masher the meat will separate sooner while cooking with less wrist action on trying to break it up

It's so different today for our youth and young adults who struggle in this area, thank you for all you share, not sure if you desire a televised show, because you're ready for one, you have all the tools to get it going, your recipes are awesome!!!! and I enjoy just watching whenever I can, God bless you!!

AB, first let me say much love and respect to you and your family.....about the cheese....I buy the big 2 pound blocks of all my favorite cheeses, grate them up, put the grated cheese in quart size zip lock bags, lay flat, let air out, zip it up and put in freezer.....they all freeze very well....been doing that for years, save a lot of time in kitchen when preparing my meals. I love your cooking show, you have even gotten my son interested in cooking.....thank you for keeping it simple...

I also have a Kool and the Gang reference..........I know you remember their hit "celebration". Well my next door neighbors played that every late Friday afternoon and we all knew it was the weekend and time for fun. Let me tell you we lived out in the boonies (country) and there was lots of distant between neighbors but they played it loud and proud and everyone in our country neighborhood loved it!

    What's up Bro AB,
😃 those youngsters DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THAT "SLOPPY JOE" MY PARENTS, BACK in 60s ,and 70s , before it came popular in house holds. It done like the way you were doing it and they started to make it in the CANS AND PREPACKAGED SEASONS, YOU JUST ADDED THE GROUND MEAT, CHOP UP DEER MEAT, PORK OR WHAT OTHER MEATS. MY MOTHER AND GRANNY HAD THEIR OWN HAND CRANK MEAT GRINDER. ❤ I LOVE SLOPPY JOE BUT NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT IN A SLOPPY JOE CHEESY DIP, I WILL BE TRYING THIS ONE FOR REAL, THANKS BRO AB, 😇

I used to do mines that way too but then I realized it was pointless to add oil and then have the oil from the meat drain out.

Looks so good! I used to make a dish called Sloppy Tots. I don't know where I got the recipe and I don't know whatever happened to it. But you made a mixture similar to this and then poured it over a pan of Tater Tots and baked it in the oven. Everybody loved it. I thought of it when you mentioned the cut up potatoes. I'm gonna try this, I love meaty dips. Also it looks pretty low carb if you don't eat alot of the chips and bread.

Looks delicious! I'd suggest sweating the onions on low heat in a separate pan and then pushing the beef to one side of the main pan and caramelizing them in the oil (medium-high to high heat) before dumping it. This will give them a different flavor that many people will love.
Also, remember that fat is actually a very important macronutrient to have in your diet and consider keeping 1/4 to 1/2, if not all, of the fat depending on your preferences. The main reason that professionally cooked food tastes better is due to tons of added fats, so I'd be careful in removing too much of it.
EDIT: I typically cook with 73% lean beef for that very reason. You can always drain the fat if it's too much, but I mainly use ground beef in a budget "1-pot cajun beef/beans/brown rice" meal where I end up using the resulting broth and fats to form a gelatinous gravy using corn starch during the last few minutes of the rice cooking.

For those who don't like onions and bell peppers I've found that I don't get complaining when I saute them in a bit of olive oil and butter before adding to the meat. When I make Salisbury steak that's what I do and then let it cool before mixing into the meat.
