Just made a big batch of these earlier this week. This is something my mom made when I was growing up. Part of my Slovak, Russian heritage. Good stuff with mashed potatoes.
I put a little beef broth, or bouillon and water into the pan with the tomato sauce when baking. After my cabbage rolls are done, I mix some sour cream with a little flour and seasoning, and cook it with the pan sauce to make a delicious tomato gravy to serve on top of the cabbage rolls. 65 yo, and that's what I was taught. Very good. Yours look good too.
My Latvian grandma used to make cabbage rolls, just with hamburger - folks these are amazing and the fragrance will bring the fam to the kitchen. I make them and love them.
I love cabbage rolls but it is a job to make. So I adapted the recipe because after working all day I can’t do this so…. I make the sauce and freeze in batches. I cook the meat and spices and onion half way through and freeze in batches. Then…. I always try to keep some rice cooked every week for many dishes so then I unfreeze the meat and sauce and layer it like you did. But I buy a coleslaw mix season it with some bacon grease and add it to the casserole dish and stir it in with the rice. Too with sauce and bake. So good just not a neat little package and I can make it on a week night. I precook so much and label it and then already have half the meal done. I’ve even done this in a crockpot put it together in the am and it’s ready when I get home. Keep up the recipes you are the best out there !!!

I made your smothered chicken with gravy this week and it was wonderful!! I saved the leftover gravy & rice. A few days later, I fried some hamburger patties wit your burger seasoning and added the leftover gravy. I reheated the rice. Man! It was so good!! Your cabbage rolls look good! I will need to make them. I'm thinking some queso cheese would be good on top.
Smother that with sauerkraut and I’m in !! My grandpa used to make these every New Year. He also added a dime to the bottom of the pan 🤷♀️. Still not rich 😂

Sometime last year when I was pregnant I wrote down a recipe for stuffed collards. I woke up out of my sleep and just started writing. I haven’t looked at it since. I know it was similar to dolmas but with flavors that I like. Thanks for reminding me. Thanks for this recipe!!!
AB is always bringing great food recipes. You can plan your meals every day of the week. Suggestion for all produce not used in recipes, put it large ziploc bag and freeze. When bag is full, make vegetable broth. After strained vegetables for broth, compost for garden.
Looking forward to this. My friends in Macedonia made sarma, they soaked the cabbage heads in salt water for weeks. I think it made the cabbage easier to roll. Probably more to it than that but don’t remember all.

AB, I use my electric pressure cooker to steam my cabbage after I cut out my core and it comes apart so easily. O also use no salt tomato products in all my recipes. Use have hamburger and half pork together for my meat. Also use diced tomatoes in my sauce. I am going to combine yours and mine😊

Love stuffed cabbage. Savoy cabbage is best. It has nice green outer leaves. That's where the vitamins are. Less thickness. Lay the other direction. Tuck ends before rolling.
Jerk Chicken breast, wrapped with bacon then with the cabbage and then sprinkle mushrooms over the top😮 and if you want, sprinkle Colby cheese, fried onion pepper's ect😮oh my!! I'm greedy so this can go soooo many ways. I love it.
These are called pigeons in my region (lots of Polish/PA Dutch folks), but you used more than just salt and pepper to season yours - I bet that tastes a lot better than what I grew up with :D

This reminds me of stuffed bell peppers but using cabbage. I definitely will add mushrooms, bell peppers, and ground turkey. ❤

I use instant rice so you don’t have to cook it first. I also use Hunts meatloaf sauce as my sauce it’s very good
