    hi this is the wife, my hubby is Dutch and grew up there, his mom would add an egg to help bind them together so they didn't fall apart,

      thats correct! 1 egg per 500 gram. imho ketjap manis is to sweet for the sauce. I mostley use some red or rose wine for the sauce and bind it with a bit of roux if necessary

    Thank you for posting your recipe, I’m an American living in the Netherlands so my wife can be with her family. It’s her birthday tomorrow and I’ll be sporting a similar apron; while following your recipe. Proost 🍺

    The smell of hot butter always reminds me of my Oma making these. Though I don’t recall the sauce but I was young.

    This is very familiar to me. The sauce you made is basically the sauce my family uses on their cabbage rolls but instead of breadcrumbs they use potatoes. One of my favorites!

    Hi Toine, I just watched your recipe for gehaktballen. I,m also from the Netherlands and stil live there, funny to watch your videos with Dutch traditional cookings. There are so many ways to cooke the perfect gehakbal, I cooke the balls in a bouillon and a little Kikkoman sojasaus, this also makes a wonderfull tasting sauce. This is called a "Jordanese gehaktball" there is a video on youtube with another Dutch chef. Greetings from the Netherlands.Ps misschien moet je ook eens een stoofpotje introduceren is ook altijd een toppper.

    Butter is the key. My mom, grandmother and aunt used to make these and krokets. Krokets were kind of difficult, but just as good as the meatballs and hachee....

    These look amazing Toine, could these be made with venison? I ask because I've been given 500g of venison mince as part payment for some woodworking I did.

      I have never tried that. I think the meatballs would be fine, but I'm not sure about the jus flavor combo with venison

    De ei bindt het vlees, de mayo doet dat niet. Mayo is 70-80% olie namelijk.

    Not the way my family made them. This is not the original Dutch recipe

    • @PeterHup
      @PeterHup 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think there is an original Dutch recipe, varies by household, like we would simmer with a couple bay leaves and include parsley in the mix.

      There are so many versions or "Dutch recipes". I've tried two of Toine's recipes recently and both have been wonderful with authentic Dutch flavors as I remember them (born and raised in the West until I was 20) my Mom used to add Worcestershire (no sambal) and Knorr aromat. Just slightly different ingredients but pretty close to similar results. Still authentic Dutch flavor.
