All emulation handheld work with N64 and below a 50 dollars phone have same processor or better getting a prepaid phone with the line and a gamesir 40 dollars controller wit the new analog and way cheaper hopefully they create something good for stable high end emulation
Can I buy this off you?
Is this dual os?
Man these handheld emulators are getting so close to perfect. Its only a matter of time until we get flawless out of the box gcn/ps2/wii performance at 2 or 3x resolution.
We already do, Odin 2.
Yeah and then when flawless PS2 comes out you'll be crying wanting flawless PS3. These retro gaming posers are never satisfied.
Can't wait for a Mister Handheld. Retro FPGA Handheld is what we really want!!
We gotta wait like 2? More gen for perfect ps2
PS2 Emulator hasn’t been updated in over a year. The consoles have already outgrown the emulator with devices like the Odin 2
Received mine one week ago and is just awesome how vivid the oled screen can be! Retro games looks sexy! GBA full screen is ❤️.
From PS2, 3DS, PSP the working games are like remasters!! The sound is top too!! Im so happy! (mine arrived with right rumble making some noise, but Im talking with aliexpress). I understand it is not powerful as RP4 but is just fine!
i got a rp4 and the L2 broke off 2nd day so imo anbernic is way better this the 3rd time i buy a retroid pocket and it had problems and the company dosnt really help cause they are much smaller then anbernic and much more poor so they cant fix all the issues my rp2 screen had light bleed and dead pixles my rp3 was thrown away in the trash 2 days later when the rp3+ was announced and my rp4 the screen fell out wasnt glued on correclty and my L2 button broke off the first time i pressed it
OMG THE THING I NEEDED BUT DIDNT EVEN KNOW!
With arm chips getting more and more powerful these software emulators just keep getting closer to perfection.
Thanks for the review. Take care.
I just might be buying this one. Thanks. It was the Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom that sold me. That and playing DoA2 and Soul Calibur along with all the old classic fighters and SNES/Genesis games… SOLD!
Thanks for the video and review. ❤❤❤❤
not only that but u can play ultamit Marvel vs capcom3 on it and street fighter x Tekken using the psvita emulator
That screen and ergonomics are fantastic 👌
Got mine (black version) about a week ago, only set up a couple of games for it. That screen is beautiful! My only real gripe is that it's got a super smooth outer shell all around. Could have used a small amount of textured "knurling" to help with the grip and it does pick up fingerprints. But such minor gripes! It seems to play everything from PS2 and below without any issue, which were my main wants for a sub $200 handheld. The battery life is pretty good, too. Also, the speakers aren't terrible and can be pretty loud, if you dig it. I prefer earbuds for my sessions.
Abernic pumping out bangers.
Mine is taking a tour of Cali currently. Hopefully it makes it up north soon. You should see the case Anbernic made for it. Looks like a Gucci bag.
Isn't that thing awful looking? It looks like a ladies makeup case. Amazon sells a way nicer looking case for under $10 with a black carbon fiber weave look to it, I left a review.
"Street Fighter The Movie for Saturn wouldn't load" - you should like the device even more for saving you from that garbage.
"For you playing 'Street Fighter: The Movie' for Saturn was the worst day of your life. For me it was unable to load."

@@mattdavis9601 🤣🤣🤣
That clear plastic they used reminds me of those cheap third party Xbox 360 controllers
Yeah I've never been a fan of the whole see through thing and scored the black one, it looks great.
looks really slick and comfy
That thing looks sweet! I got an AYN Odin 2 Pro for Christmas so I don’t really have a need for one but I would totally get one if I didn’t have the AYN already.
Too bad your Odin 2 has a subpart screen compared to this one. I had an Odin 2 and performance wise it's very subjective when running PS2. The AMOLED screen however pops out on the RG556, it's immediately noticeable, the ergonomics is also much more comfortable on this one.
@@VaticanTop sub par? Hahaha, ok. The screen on my Odin 2 looks great so if there is any difference then it’s negligible at best. The ergonomics also feel fine to me and the Odin will out perform this thing all day so whatever point you’re trying to make is moot.
@@jesseglidden321 Apparently you've never compared an AMOLED to an IPS screen.
I've never owned one of these, I sold/gave away to friends all of my games before moving countries. I had lots of Genesis, SNES and Dreamcast stuff that I don't have anymore. Might have to get this so I can feel like I still have all my old stuff!
I scored a black RG556 a couple of weeks ago and I can't love it enough. This thing is awesome. The PS2 emulation is fantastic and the games actually look remastered on the beautiful 1080p AMOLED screen. It's so comfortable and perfect to hold and play. Great button layout, remarkable on board sound, phenomenal price to performance ratio, I just can't get over how great PS2 games look and run on the RG556.
Got mine last week. Less than two week shipping to the UK which was really impressive. It's been a great system so far but the card they load up with games probably isn't worth the additional cost. Note for buyers, just buy an sd card from elsewhere and load the roms etc yourself. I cleared down 90% of it due to duplicates and junk games 👍 side note. Buy the blue clear edition, the black version can smudge a fair bit.
I have a few of these, I love them so much.
That screen is GORGEOUS
Ambernic is learning. Getting closer to a good build.
Imagine if they put as much effort into the image as they did the hardware. Everyone would own one of thse.
Man I’ve been researching these suckers and I’m really liking this one. Was it wifi compatible?
Need to get ES-DE running as the front end on this, would be a proper little handheld console then on par with the Switch for interfaces.
i like the clear look to it.
I want one of these as long as it plays KI and KI2 without those sound static stutters. Seems like it's a really well made device. I like how some of these devices are becoming less and less Temu'ish or Alibaba'ish. It would be great to finally have a device that kills off any justification for paying for NSO each year or re-buying Neo Geo games.
Can you test out what the android version of Emulation station is like on this device! Enjoyed the review.
Not to promote other you tubers but retro game corps has done a video regarding this. Hope that helps.
I shamelessly shill for other TH-camrs; Joey's Retro Handhelds has an excellent tutorial about Emulation Station that he uploaded a couple of days ago.
Here's the thing, and his tutorial will drive this home for you if I don't, Emulation Station on Android is clunky and limited at the moment. If you're okay with that then his tutorial will get you up and running pretty quickly. However, Daijishō is still the much more refined frontend. In my opinion, unless you specifically want Emulation Station because it's Emulation Station, stick with Daijishō for your Android handheld... At least for now.
Color is 🔥
You could also plug the usb to usb c into the thing to a PC to transfer games from pc to it
yes
I have the rp4pro and a 556. My rp4pro is collecting dust. My 556 is amazing, the screen alone makes it better than the rp4pro. Battery life with the LED off is insane. Feels solid in hand, very comfortable. Just all in all the best sub $200 handheld out there.
Also turn off ambient lighting to shut off the LED and use Daijisho over the anbernic launcher. I removed all the included emulators and added updated versions and it made it a ton better. I did keep the included citra, since it works fine.
Does the LED really affect battery life significantly? I dunno why, but I found that kinda surprising... 😮
@jimdoom2276 I honestly have not done any real testing on that. I turn it off just to help save battery.
@jimdoom2276 I only mentioned the LED because he said something about how to turn them off. Just pointing out its the ambient lighting option.
Probably a stupid question, but can you save games on it? If so, can you save multiple games from the different sections of game categories?
I uust received mine. The screen looks amazing. It feels like a high quality device. The buttons however feel way too stiff for me and have way too much travel. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to play fast games on this thing. Maybe the buttons will get looser or we can mod it
get the retroid pocket 4 let mee me know which is better i trust your opinion
RP4 immediately loses due to it's bad ergonomics and subpar screen quality.
Im still useing my retroid pocket 4
The hardware is amazing, I personally don't like this form factor more prefer the RG35XX design. When they can get more powerful hardware in something like that I will get one. I also love the design of the RG ARC-D but they really need just make a full blown emulation machine for everything. The button layout is excellent. My benchmark for these devices is to get up to 3DS and Wii running flawless. I really don't care about PSP, PS2-3, personally never was fond of Playstation. As long as Saturn, Dreamcast, Wii, and 3DS are perfect I'm more than happy. Of course anything prior to those systems are already running perfect imo.
The actual thumbs up icon on youtube does a rainbow effect when he says he gives the device a thumbs up in the video! Pretty freaking awesome!!
W Android, it's on par with the Logitech G Cloud I have. I like this model more and the OLED and price! Might need to sell the G cloud and get this since w XBOX app it becomes basically an XBOX switch plus retro haves plus steam link system.
They put so many of these out, that I think I shouldn’t jump for one because in a month or so there is a much better version. I do like the look of this one however. Also hey, love me some Tatsunoko v Capcom on the wii, too!
people whop say this are funny xD litteraly the first hand held of its kind with a arm T820 chip which no other hand held has in a price nother hand held has and ur like. meh they make to many lmfao WTF ?
@@CHICKENmcNUGGIESMydude Is that what I said though? Pretty sure I was saying I might have to skip this one for the very reason he said in the video, there will be a better one in a month.
Does this have video out and bluetooth for a proper controller to connect?
Thanks
i may buy this also even though i already have odin 2 pro but ....amoled....
Can it play TimeSplitters FP, Perfect Dark, DBZ BT3 and Smash Bros Melee? Those are the benchmark games for me.
all play smooth at stock u can uprez dbz bt3 to 2x you can upres time splinters 2 up to 1.75x res and smash bros melee is easy for it to run just slows down when loading in shaders for new attacking animation but after the first few seconds its all smooth after that
Does this have bluetooth audio? Yes it's great that it has a headphone jack but I'm one of the (few?) people who don't use threaded headphones anymore. Edit: found out that it did. Delay then is usually standard... Is it obvious?
Stupid question…when you close out of a game does it save your progress? Say for instance GOW
Wish it had HDMI out as well.
I just got this. But I'm just getting a second steam deck. I have a addiction buying these things. And honestly my fav is the 405 v and m for screens and Odin 2 max for everything else. But this was my last buy. Like I said I'm getting a second lcd steam deck for just emulation
🤡🤡🤡🤡
@@mackw919 oh sorry I have expendable cash.. maybe before calling someone a clown you need to look at your life choices.
Anbernic should make a 6 face button version of this device.
i like blue color but i hate how leds look ....so i guess i will go with black one again
i guess @ $229 its got impressive specs for that pricepoint
Why did you go with this over the black version?
I just ordered mine can you do what games are it
I got the odin 2.
I think it's best to just pay the extra money and get the best of the best and be done with it
The problem is that I'm having in the UK. This Anbernic is £170
Odin 2 pro is nearly £500
I personally am not an Android person. I own one of these Android based handhelds and find it confusing to use. I prefer the Linux units for ease of use. Just me, but I know a lot of people love these Android units.
Beautiful handheld device. Very glossy color.
Man that looks like a scratch scuff magnet I wish they would sell clear clases for them
I hope the QC isn't shitty like the rp4 pro.
anbernic has one of the best QUality controll people who ask this clearly never bught a anbernic they are said to have better quality then nintendo offical products lol but tbh retroid is the oppisite so i see where people get confused every single retroid launch has been riddled with problems the rp1 had sticky buttons the rp2 had dead pixle screen and light bleed
the rp3 was the biggest scam and the rp3+ had problems with the shoulder buttons and start select also there 100s of reports of the rp4 and rp4 pro being horrible quality with alot of them being sent back cause of L2 and R2 buttons
what systems does it support up to for emulation? im looking for up to ps2
Ps2, GC and then some Wii and GC. Each game will run more optimally at a specific resolution but most work flawlessly. Hope that helps.
i wish the windows handhelds were this pretty
Do a short clip of rg-556 running genshin
This is great device but I will stick to my X28 for couple of years. They are producing new devices too fast to be honest.
My hope is that they release a 7 inch device in the next 2 years. :)
Otherwise, this device isn't that bad.
Is there a dual os?
Can you save your progress on games??
yes
I’m tired of these builds where 98% of the games play fine on $49 devices. The point of these higher end ($229) handhelds is to play DC, PS1 and 2, PSP, GC, Wii, but they only include a handful of games. I know you are supposed to add your own roms, but I’m far from the only one who just wants to power up and play. Charge a little more, include (at least) a half terabyte card, and include extensive libraries of the newer games. Does anyone know where I can find such a build?
Another day another handheld
These things become obsolete faster than iphones 😂. Started sticking to my android phone with a telescopic gamepad, Still appreciate the review
This is a switch does anyone else noticed?
I really like these heldhelds but it annoys me no end that they persist in having the Nintendo ABXY button layout, which I detest. Not everyone wants a Switch clone. For once I'd wish they use the Xbox layout or at least give me the option to change the buttons.
You can amend the layout from the home screen. It's quickly accessible to change this option too.
The reason they used the Nintendo layout was cause there's more Nintendo emulators than other emulators so if you bought this having the Xbox layout most of your games will be awkwardly assign by default especially the A and B buttons and X and Y button so in games like Super Mario Bros. because the A and B button are on opposite position left will be jump and right is action which will play awkward.
@@VOAN I must be the odd one out then, I very rarely play Nintendo games.
@@charlesgriffiths4901 That doesn't fix the issue of having the wrong letters printed on the buttons (not that I ever look while playing, lol).
Whats the best sd card that has the most storage?
sort from cheapest to most expensive and buy the one that offers the most Storage for price ( DO NOT WORRY ABOUT BRAND )
alot of youtubers and people say dont buy a cheap sd card get a sony or samsung but this is fauls and they only say this cause they repeating what they herd in my expeince flash STORAGE IS FLASH STORAGE sure after 1000s of file transfers and running ur sd card at 99% compancity will prone u to lose ur data and currport ur files forcing u to format and lose all ur games but this is just somehting that happends with all flash storage Samsung and even sony arent safe from it and it happends just as common with the lower brand there litteraly is no difference so save urself lik 90% of the cost and just buy like a 256gb for 9 bucks or a 500gb for 20 or a 1tb for 40 no more then that those are standard priceing anything more and ur paying for brand which like i said make absolutley no difference ( people think the good brand will make it more safe to never lose ur date WRONG happends just as much with good brands if not more offten ) or poeple think the good brand means it transfers files faster (WRONG thats not how file transferspeeds work on a pc there are limits kinda like when u buy a wifi router and it advertises 5000mbs speeds but u know damn well ur house is only able to push max 90mbs
Samsung EVO plus or select, has the most available space compared to SP, Teamgroup,
Does it runs genshin
i don't get why they just don't put all the cpu power and gpu power they can throu into it.
Want something powerfull that fits in the pocket.
Doesn't fit in my pocket may as well get a laptop.
Most powerful chips generate a lot of heat and drain a lot of power. Putting into a pocketable form factor would cause all kinds of problems like overheating and lousy battery life. We're just not there yet
This guy looks like he worked at GameStop and microcenter part time
Ps2 was looked like it was running a lil bit slow
This handheld or a PS Vita?
Depends. Do you primarily want to play Vita games and are fine with playing PSP games at native resolution? Get the Vita because the Android Vita emulator is still a work in progress. Are you going to primarily play literally anything else? Get this. If the size difference between the Vita and the RG556 is too much than look into the smaller, but still very powerful, Retroid Pocket 4 and 4 Pro.
Vita3K android can not play every game, only some.
No pokemon and digimon games??
how did it handle zelda windwaker for the GC?
Doest it has a hdmi out?
No hdmi out, I showed all buttons and ports it has and it is very minimal... just usb c for charging and 3.5mm audio jack
Looks awesome but too expensive for a retro hand held in my opinion. 230.00
720p PS2 emulation?
wow i want this sell it to me mr pixel!
Do you know if there's a way to install a linux based OS on this device? I really don't like the manual setup of every platform on android. Linux based OS like Batocera/Koriki are "install'n play". Plus, the user experience is simpler and cleaner.
I would like an honest review not a review by someone that has been sent the product for review 😂 I won't buy this personally know what's inside it but every review I've watched now has been by someone that had been sent it for free.
they just stole the switch design on the back and added grips, lol.
I hate light pollution on devices.
The LED rings on the sticks can be turned off.
Is this worth it? I really want something like this
It looks like a mcdonalds toy of a steam deck lol
🤡
🤡🤡🤡
Sadly the Odin 2 while being more powerful, has a shitty screen compared to this beauty. If the Odin 2 had an AMOLED, it's perfect.
That looks pretty cool, but for me nothing beats the Lenovo Legion Go, albeit it could be better. If it had 32 ram and 6 or 8 TB, then it would be next level.
No YUZU..
Not going to run thing smoothly anyway, Yuzu doesn't support anything that's not snapdragon because the driver is open on snapdragon gpu and closed with Mali gpu
They, being Ambernic, released this to counter the Retroid Pocket 4/Pro and is priced in between their models. Good little device, but I'm no fan of android for an emulation operating system.
You can use Emulation Station. It can also be set as default which means that the console would boot straight to it.
A larger screen that is also OLED just works better for some. The Rp4P looks nicer but it's all personal preference I suppose 😊
Slippery hands guy here -- I will not be buying this one.
Finger prints..
I still don't get it...for 100$ more you get a Steamdeck...
This is $185.
I'm no mathematician...
And the Deck is a lot heavier, is physically a lot bigger, has much worse battery life, doesn't run Android, and costs more than just an extra Benjamin new for new. The Deck makes a lot of sense if you've got a Steam library or want to build one. If you just want to do old console emulation something like this makes so much more sense.
Plus, a nice little bonus for long time Android phone and tablet users, your Play Store library will carry over to this handheld. I don't have a Steam library, but I have a pretty extensive paid Google Play library of games and freestanding emulators thanks to a decade of owning Galaxies, LGs, and Motorolas. Many of those games have native controller support. Things like "Grid", "Rush Rally 3", and "Wreckfest" would be a lot of fun here, I expect.
Steam deck barely plays games .....Asus ally
I love my 405, but I just don't like how the 556 looks. It looks cheap and like I'd find it in an off-brand store for $45.
Shame it has fragmandroid on it.
Yea that’s to expensive 😅
Hard to consider these candybar systems when you are sitting on a Steam Deck! Nice handheld though.
These toys give you 8hrs of gameplay without being plugged in a OLED screen under 200$ with a ton of storage but hey you steam deck fanatic s keep making a fool out of your self
These handhelds are kinda pointless, as i just clip my moga controller to my phone and play 3ds, vita and dreamcast without issue. Cant beleive for nearly $200 this thing cant even play N64 games. I got stereo speakers on my phone and a 4k amoled screen. So in 2024 retro handhelds are meh. Anbernic should work on windows 11 handhelds. Then i may be interested.
Mali gpu tho
A shame it uses Android, I think some flavour of Linux would be better, with devices like this Android support doesn't tend to last long.
I honestly hope Ambernic and the like replace Nintendo entirely. Nintendo is such a disappointment, and has been for 10 years or so. Sony and Xbox isn't much better either.
