In today’s video, I am reviewing the HP Officejet 3830 All-in one printer. This printer combines the functionality of a printer, scanner, copier and fax into a single device. For starters, setting the HP officejet 3830 printer up was reasonably pain free and intuitive. If you need help setting the printer up for the first time, I have a separate video that walks you through the entire setup process. Once setup, you’ll notice that the HP Officejet 3830 has a rather sleek, black design that allows it to elegantly blend in with the decor in your home. The body is made plastic but is finished well and looks pretty sleek. The HP Officejet 3830 is also fairly compact and measures in at about 18 inches in length by 14 inches in width by 8.5 inches in height, with the output tray closed. It is however a bit taller than most printers like the hp envy 5055 that do not have a document feeder. The 2.2 inch black and white screen is the printer’s primary interface. I do like the fact this touchscreen is pretty responsive and the menus are very intuitively laid out- something I seem to appreciate with a lot of HP printers I have reviewed lately. This screen has a power button to the left and a blue wireless indicator light to the right. As with other all-in-one printers, the HP officejet 3830 has a glass scanbed which can scan documents as large as letter or A4. In addition to this, it has a hidden automatic document feeder which can scan upto 35 pages automatically, when opened up. Both the flatbed and scanner can be used to scan documents either to a phone, using the HP smart app, or a to a computer using the HP Easy Scan program. When using the Easy Scan program on a computer, you can scan multiple pages and combine all those pages into a single PDF. A pretty useful option. The scanbed and document feeder can also be used to make copies and send faxes- that’s IF you still send faxes. The HP officejet 3830 can make as many as 50 color or black and white copies at a time. And the printer also has quite a few useful features for making copies: like lightening or darkening an image, resizing copies and an ID card copy option. As I mentioned, it does have the ability to send faxes. The phone jack for the fax line is one of two phone jacks in the back. The second is for an extension telephone line. There is also a usb port in the back, in case you wanna connect the printer to your computer using a usb cable and skip the wireless connection.
he printer can also print borderless prints as large as Letter or A4. It pulls plain paper from an open paper tray that can hold upto 60 pages. The paper tray does have a paper guide tucked away beneath this flip lid, and you want to pay attention to that when loading paper. I am not a big fan of open paper trays. If you live in a somewhat dusty environment, your paper has a tendency to absorb a bit of that dust. The black and white print speed was pretty good for an inkjet printer and the quality was pretty decent too. Definitely not laser quality but very usable and reasonably sharp. When it comes to color prints, the 3830 was a bit slower. However, the borderless prints were quite respectable, especially on photo paper. The colors were well reproduced and tge images were crisp. The prints are pushed onto this folding paper tray, which almost seems like an afterthought. It’s pretty flimsily built and is even made from gray plastic, in stark contrast to the rest of the printers black body. The hp officejet 3830 uses the extremely popular 63 series black and tricolor cartridges. The cartridges are pretty easy to replace and are reasonably inexpensive. If you plan to use the printer very regularly, I recommend using the 63XL series cartridges instead. These are much more cost effective and last longer. I’ll leave links to both the 63 and 63 Xl cartridges below, in case you’re looking to buy some.
So should you buy the HP Officejet 3830? Well, that all depends on if you need a document feeder and what kind of environment you live in. If you need an automatic document feeder and live in an environment that isn’t too dusty, the HP Officejet is a great little printer. However if you don’t need a document feeder and live in a dustier environment, I recommend the HP envy 5055 instead. However, if you do need a document feeder and also need a closed paper tray, I recommend the HP Officejet 5255 instead. i have HP 3835 printer, using it since last 2 years, no issues till now. best part it that i can remotely print using the email address of the printer. very useful to print from mobile or tablet. as my kids go to school there are lot of projects and assignments to print. working great..very happy and satisfied

Does it flip on long edge and print on both sides automatically or do you have to manually flip the page?

My aunt has one and bought new ink cartridges for it about 2 years ago but have hardly used them. I tried to copy something with it last summer and the ink was almost completely dried up! I've had an H printer at my house for years, only used it a couple times a year and never had a problem with the ink drying up on me. Why do brand new, never used cartridges on this machine dry up when not used? How can they be made usable, again?

I have had this printer for about 3 years and have had intermittent problems regarding paper loading. I reload when it's empty and i often, actually these past few weeks every time load paper. I I load and press OK and I get the line that says 'printing' then it stops and i get the 'reload' message again followed by the alignment message, so I adjust the paper, but it continues to report, 'load' paper. Sometimes I can fix this by turning the printer off and on again. Today I tried troubleshooting everything I know but am still getting the message. Cannot use the printer at all now.

My printer HP3830 has the same problem. I purchased it 5 yrs ago for $49.99 tried to order the piece but was told by HP this printer was old and no parts for sale. Why then do they keep advertising it for double the price now?
I own one of these and it's pretty good. Had it for over a year now and I haven't had any problems with it. Printed more than 1k pages and scanned oh so many documents. Does the job well. Btw I'm a college student

I am on my third printer, the first two were terrible. The problem was white lines throughout. The major problem is when you run into an issue it becomes a major mental game when dealing with hp representatives. Never mind the hours you spend trying to get through to them. I am also having a difficult time navigating answers to my questions. For example, how do you print borderless. I do not see that option, which is my reason for coming here today. Out of the blue my printer starting printing with huge margins and I am unable to find my way back.

You need a regular phone line to use the fax
I have the problem of the printer keeps locking me out, stating that I am using incompatible cartridges. The cartridges I use are HP 63 (I buy the 2-pack from office depot). What can be done to reset or clear this blockage??
I would recommend updating the printer first then removing the cartridges from the printer. Then perform a full reset of the printer. Once the printer is reset, reinstall the cartridges as you would do for a new printer

I would turn the printer off and back on again. I would also then recommend updating the printer through its menu on the screen. That should generally solve the issue

I have been trying to use the scan tray to scan multiple document but the printer never pulls the paper in despite hearing the beep after I have feed in my documents. It will rather want to scan from the copy/scan glass which is not effective. It then send blank copy to my email as there was nothing on the glass to scan but the tray worked for copy. Can you direct me on how to fix the issue?

In the HP scan app/software program you may have the flatbed selected as your default source. You want to change that to Document Feeder

Re: the HP 3830 you mention that multiple scanned pages can be combined in a single PDF. Is the same true with JPEG scans?
Unfortunately not with JPEG scans, just pdfs

I have the 5055 printer and it is good just SLOW so
CAn you have it print from computer and use wireless option as well.

Can not get online with my 3830 it asks for a PIN how to find the PIN? Terrible printer. Blue light was blinking now steady on but can not print from my computer. Do not want to use USB as computer is far from my printer. All in all a piece of junk. No warranty as i got this as a gift.
