  • Feeding Amazon Puffer Fish. Our puffer fish eat a wide variety of food including snails, bloodworms, brine shrimp, clams, frozen shrimp and freeze dried krill to name but a few. Amazon puffers need to ware down their teeth when eating otherwise they will have to be trimmed.

    Great that you provide internet with an honest video about the amazon puffers. It is a lot of work, and very time consuming to get them enough hard foods. Very nice video. :-)

    Another TH-camr video... had very good teeth maintenance just from feeding hardshelled shrimps and lots of frozen cubed worms, that the puffers would aggressively tear from (cubes being held with narrow tongs).
    After 13 months, the teeth had not noticeably grown. :)
    -They also ate some snails, but were not strong enough to break the shells.

    love the tank man! How are the puffers doing? I'm considering 1 in a 5g or 3-4 in a 10g. I just want the puffer to be happy, and I'm not sure if being with other puffers would stress them out, or if it would be happier alone with some amano shrimp.

      Thanks. Puffers are doing great. These are amazon puffers, minimum tank size 30-40 gallons. They’re an extremely active fish and can get 3-4 inches in size. The amazon puffers prefer to be in groups.

  • @aryah1513

    Well this was 5 years ago so either they died or you figured it out.
    1) Snails don't fit in their mouth so they will not chew on the shell.
    2) Clam shells won't fit in their mouth so they will not chew it either.
    3) The rest of the foods are only going to grind the teeth if they are picked up with a mouthful of fine sand. The fine sand is what grinds those sharp top teeth.

    Please answer... need help... did the tank dividers completely darken out the sides? Wouldn’t a black paper cover on walls do the same? I have had one amazon puffer a month and he has quit surfing the walls as much but will still eat NOTHING. I have tried everything you mentioned except the frozen shrimp & freeze dried krill.... his stomach is flat but not concave... yet to me it seems his coloring has darkened & “blurred” a bit. Still white tummy & open tail... just don’t like the way he looks... tried everything..... he watches blood worms float right by him.... keep offering a variety... snails as well.... can’t find anyone to help me.... please please.... help me... I have fish, dogs & plants & that is my family!!

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Black paper doesn't do the same as it's on the outside of the tank so the puffer can see his reflection. The divider material is on the inside so they cannot see their reflection at all.

    Hey sheila, I'm seeking some guidance, want to start a 20 gallon planted betta(6) sorority, rose line sharks(4) and pea puffers(2). Amy tips would help.

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t recommend sorority tanks anymore. The roselines need a minimum tank size of 55 gallons but 75 is better. They get large, swim very fast and need minimum groups of 5 but more is better. Pea puffers are better in species only tanks as they can be very nippy. I’d recommend rethinking your choice of fish and tank size.

  • @allan7934
    @allan7934 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    hear it out. sounds cruel but would be beneficial long term. try not feeding the fish a few day's. up to 3 and then offering the half shell clams. If that doesn't work, use the shells and put backed or gell like food such as repashi (for give spelling) and attach it to the clam shell since you indicated they eat it and then swap it back to half clam shell out a few days later with a few days no food in between. I'd bet you would have success that way!

  • @jen_217_
    @jen_217_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I need to reorganize my tank I will.. it is well planted & has driftwood with plants... moss... java plants.... I could cover bottom with substrate.... doing regular water changes.. know they dislike dirty water.... I feel he will die. He was my birthday present... don’t know how he’s lived this long without eating!! Even tried peas, algae wafers, frozen blood worms, frozen krill, krill & brine pellets, many snails of course, brine flakes (knew that was a no go) have given scuds, have given ghost shrimp..... please.... any advice... it would be the best day of my life if I saw him eat one bite!!
