Cory thanks a ton. My daughter has been begging me for these for a long time. I finally said ok and we got a few and put them on a 15 gallon planted. Thanks to your vids I went into knowing how to care for these little guys. They are amazing. However the LFS sold me a baby Fahaka with mine by accident so I went and invested in another tank just for that one. Now I need to fully research care for that.
I own one pea puff. His name is Ost (cheese in english). He lives in a 45 gallon tank with a brine shrimp called Jörgen. He loves Live bloodworms, daphnia and brine shrimp babies. He is the cutest lil boy and he can do two tricks: Swim around my finger and play with a floating ball🐡 I hope you liked reading about Ost🐡🧀💛
Awwwwwe I have one in a 20 gallon named DeVito. He is so cute with his big eyes that look around at everything and he always swims up to the glass to say hi
I had a female pea puffer in a nano tank and she actually got along just fine with a lone crystal red shrimp that was leftover. Super cute and tiny, always greeted me every morning. A little more high maintenance than other fish because of the live/frozen food diet, so when she passed, I eventually replaced her with a betta - just as active, very colorful, and easier to feed.
All species profiles should be like this. I can use a web search for anything, the first hand experience isn’t as easy to come by. So thank you! And, thank you for sharing your treatment protocols. Some might have their “proprietary” formula for such things, and your transparency with all of that is greatly appreciated!!!
As requested; I keep them now and have before. I lost my group to a heater malfunction but the new guys are doing well. 6 in a 29, with endlers juvinilles, rams horn snails of various sizes, and cabomba plants. General guidance from my experience is love them like a new puppy. They love to see you. Awesome fish to have! Thank you Cory for the tips!!!
I like your videos! PEA PUFFERS have taught me so much. I have a pea puffer in with my male guppies in a 5.5 gallon tank. The reason all goes well is 1) the tank is FULL of live plants for lots of coverage 2) there are a LOT of ramshorn snails. 'Puffy' single-finnedly manages the WHOLE colony of snails by himself. He eats the snail-eggs AND the baby snails. He leaves the adult snails alone. As the adult snails eventually die off from old age, I add more snails from my other tanks. Puffy works everyday checking the eggs. He does NOT bother the guppies. Occasionally the boy guppies try to get amorous with him and he just swims away, lol. It is one of the great joys of my life to watch this 3/4 inch fish manage this snail colony. It is very important to add more snails when the old ones die naturally of old age, after laying lots of eggs in their life-time. 2 years now, this has been going on. LOTS of plants encourage the snails laying their eggs, and this gives Puffy lots to keep 'interested' in. He carefully SCANS every square inch of the tank for his dinners. AMAZING little fish. I am so grateful to know and be able to observe him.💦🙏🐟
That s Amazing !!! You convince me now to get some of those really nice creatures in my 22 us galons / 100litres with platty, molly… (about 25) it will be Ok if i will add 3-4 pea puffy? Many Thanks in advance !!!
Maybe start with 2 puffers as they can really over-kill the snails at first until they learn to mostly eat the eggs and baby snails. I made the mistake of putting in 4 puffers in a 10 US gal tank and they overdid it at first. I like to have plenty of snails as they keep the glass clean and really help clean the tank. i have LOTS of plants for the snails to get away from the puffers if needed. You can even feed some live food at first if the puffers are slow to eat the snail eggs and little ones. You are very welcome!!@@ioancurea1356
How are your male guppies doing? I'm looking into new ways to stock my 10 gallon, I think male only and female only guppy setups are interesting, but how is aggression?
@@SleepingNorth My guppies are all doing great, thank you for asking :). Occasionally there will be some benign aggression in either tank but nothing concerning. They are so well fed which keeps them contented.
We've got three in a ten gallon. Tried giving them some molly fry one day as a snack. They now have two small mollies living with them. Mine will not eat frozen. Well, one will eat frozen brine shrimp. The other two won't touch them. We just give them the bladder and ramshorn snails from my other tanks.
Not the same, but my Betta will eat any blue Neocaridina I put in his tank, but he doesn't eat red shrimps. I presume he eats the babies before they color up, but he will HUNT blue shrimps. My working theory is that he feels he can be the only beautiful blue thing in his territory.
great video Cory. had a suggestion for you maybe paint that wall green behind you and use it as a green screen that way you can roll the b-roll behind you and use it like a weatherman lol. I don't know I just thought it might be interesting.
These guys are what got me into the hobby! I’ve always loved puffers but was a little spooked to get a big one or even a salt water fish. These guys were so small they seemed like something a noob could handle. A year later (and 2 more tanks) and I’ve fallen in love! The puffers are still my favorite though :) they are always watching me and zipping through the tank.
I love this species spotlight format! I like the cut scenes, but would add even more. I think this could be a treasure trove of relatively easy content for you.
I have 7 peas in a 20 gal long tank. They have 2 eel loaches, 2 baby rope fish (just until they are big enough to move to the community), and 2 baby banjo cats. They get along amazingly! By far my favorite tank!
@@sabrinastewart6053 Any hobby is what you make of it. When I had pea puffers they were incredibly intelligent and really interesting to watch. I don't have them anymore since I'm in a smaller space so I just have a shrimp tank next to my bed, and I love watching them every night. Tank maintenance is of course tedious, but you need to weigh your enjoyment vs the cons of the hobby.
Also I've found one of the best ways to feed them is to have a separate tank that has snails (Ramshorn or Pond work out best), and lay some sinking carnivore pellets (I use NLS) in the tanks. The snails will take to that, which allows them to very easily be gathered, but on top of that you transfer the nutrients from the pellets to the puffer via the snail.
I'm setting up a Rams horn and pond snail tank for my future pea puffers. Pond snails are outta control, but now I'm wanting them to breed and make more food that I don't have to buy. Excellent advice.
This species profile rocks. As a dog person, whom has managed an animal shelter for 10 years, fosters dogs, rehabilitates dogs, and has had 6 dogs as part of my family in the past 15 years....Cory....- thank you. All creatures great and small.
Loved the video. I fell in love with pea puffers once I saw them on this channel several months back and bought 4 off of ebay as no shops in my area carried them. I have them in a 27 gallon planted cube. If you are on the fence about getting some, do it. They are easy to care for and so much fun. Thanks to Aquarium Co-Op for showing all the puffer love over the last few years, or I would have never have known about them! I'm the only person in probably a 100 mile radius that owns them! Kind of cool!
I’ve actually owned several of these little guys, and they’re actually pretty easy to tell the males from females, at sexually maturity the males typically have a black spot on their bellies as well as an iridescent blue stripe undertone, while the females markings tend to be more muted in general. They are also born without gender and as they mature if any develop as male they will actually release a hormone in the water preventing any other still “underdeveloped” puffs from maturing as males. And also the clarity or saturation of the markings isn’t always the beat way to tell the sex as any puffer will become pale and muted if it is stressed or has poor water conditions. And they should really only be kept with other puffers, although they can coexist with other fish they do tend to bully and be extremely aggressive, I had to remove all the ones I ever owned from my other tanks including my 40 gallon and 20 gallon community tanks and wound up having to set up a tank of their very own because they stressed out all my other fish (even at one point my mated blue ram cichlids we’re afraid of them) but also totally worth it because they do have wonderful little personalities and they will interact with you, and even take food from your hand
I have 7 in a heavily planted 20, only aggression so far has been towards the snails, and frozen blood worms. :) I wish I had a resource for live black worms. Ali’s recent post of the live black worm feeding from that cone, was sweet! Thank you as always for the video and all you do.
@@Aviolatedpenut not op but I have had about 5 in a 20 gallon for a few months now (started with 7 and 2 were just failure to thrive), and they are doing great. I also have a heavily planted tank, and several other fish like cories, Pygmy cories, a few marbled hatchetfish, and a pair of xenotoca lyonsi, and they all get along amazing. I got mine very young :)
I have 3 of these little guys along with 3 bumblebee goby's and they all get along just fine. They're in a 15g fluval flex with lots of plants and a couple amano shrimp also. These little puffers are some of my favorite fish! Awesome personality and quite intelligent as well. Great video Cory keep up the good work!
Hey. I just wanted to let you know I got my puffer a few weeks ago. I went to petco and told them I had a snail problem. They recommend the puffer. I currently have a beta, a puffer, 7 shrimp and 2 black kuli loaches. And they’re getting along wonderfully. Thank god!
I love these little guys! I got really lucky and have pretty docile puffers. I’ve got 4 in a 10 gallon with a few ghost shrimp and otto catfish. They are so full of personality and run their jungle tank like the little kings and queens they are 🥰
I have found that mine love Aquarium Co Ops freeze dried brine shrimp!! I was feeding other fish in the tank and I saw both of my puffers munching away which was super exciting. 😊
I would say if you’re thinking of getting them, only keep them with things that can’t fit them in their mouth. I made the mistake of getting about 6, but some of my larger fish ate them, which meant they died because of the poison inside them. They’re great pets, and really personable. I managed to get mine onto pellets by feeding the pellets the same time as the frozen blood worms, and then eventually they took to them
I'm still new to this hobby but a pea puffer aquarium it's one of my dreams. When I get more experience I will make it come true. Thanks for this video cory.
Questions about feeding: Can you overfeed a DP? What is the ideal feeding schedule? What is your advice on how to care for your fish while going on vacation for the weekend or one week? If you load up the tank with some snails will they slowly eat them as they become hungry or would that be bad for the fish?
Thank you so much for the video! I just got back into the aquarium hobby last year and dwarf puffers have become my favorite fish after I had to get rid of my 55 and 90 gallon tanks with Oscars and Convicts.
I just got a pea puffer, i think i lucked out n got a nice one bc i was prepared to move my little group of Otocinclus out the tank, but the puffer doesn't even seem to notice them so i guess ill see how it goes 😅
We bought 3 of these little guys on a whim a few weeks back, which is how we found your channel. We were looking for something different and we just fell in love. It has definitely been a learning experience coming from Bettas. They didn't start out very territorial, but as soon as we got them in their planted tank, they have started to chase each other a bit. Ours are VERY picky eaters. The only frozen thing ours will even touch is blood worms. Frozen shrimp and frozen clams are a no go. They of course love live brine shrimp, live snails. Waiting to try live blood worms next.
CBRboy1717 I just got a dwarf puffer and it loves frozen brine shrimp. I am already starting to worry about what to do when I go on vacation since I can't put frozen food in an automatic feeder. Any advice?
I have 2 in a ten gallon with some red cherry shrimp and some Rams Horns. They like to watch the the shrimp but I have not seen one go after one yet that being said they way the look at them is very ominous I was prepared to lose the shrimp just a happy chance they seem to get along.
I actually had mine with a crystal red shrimp and they were buddies. Unfortunately when the puffer passed, I got a betta and the shrimp was gone in 3 days. :(
Recently purchased a baby pea puffer from Aquarium Co-op and I'm in love! (S)he is in a heavily planted five gallon with two amano shrimp. If the shrimp become dinner, they will not be replaced.
Thank you Cory! I've been wanting to get one of these for my 6 gallon for a long long time. This has made me want it even more!! I think I might even start a little snail breeding tank just for the lil guy when I manage to find a place that sells them!
I've kept 10 pea puffies with 6 blind cave tetras, 3 angel fish, 4 guppies, and 3 bettas. For YEARS, in a 20 long tank. Sand, lots of plants, spider wood, and mopani wood. It's ADORABLE, they all sleep on different leaves of a sword plant. I've used A.P.I. General Cure and A.P.I. Fin and Body Cure with no problems. They also get along with micro cories, dojo loaches, and paradise gouramis. (Though my micro cories died from a snowstorm heater outage; I wish they made emergency battery powered heaters! And the paradise gouramis I moved to a species tank as they keep breeding!) I do a lot of water changes. I know my tank is heavily populated, but it's been okay for years. I am going to start 3 new tanks and give everybody some more room.... I feel you should treat your little fish pals the way you want to be treated. They NEED what you NEED. Soft sand to sleep on, real plants, a private place that just yours alone. One lonely fish in a lovely tank is like a Stephen King short story or a Twilight Zone episode: it's stressful and uncanny to be in a luxury suite, FOREVER ALONE. A final note: Wikipedia says that pea puffers in their native habitat are becoming rarer, because of the aquarium trade. ✨💖🌿🐡🐡🐡🐡🌿💖✨
Love you Corey man I've been having fun with breeding black bar endlers and now keeping ponds and stuff I just started my puffer venture your just awesome your content is godsend 🙏👌
We had 3 pea puffers in our 20 gallon planted. The tank was a jungle. The puffers lived peacefully (initially) with 6 panda cats and 6 zebrafish. As Cory noted, when you purchase these fish they are immature and cannot be sexed. Well, at 10-12 months we had 3 angry males. The puffers were good about their other tankmates, and left the zebras and cories alone, but the largest male tormented the 2 smaller ones. We eventually rehomed them all - not worth keeping 3 little fish in 3 separate tanks, and our LFS had no other pea puffers to exchange in the hopes of finding a few females. They were so aggressive I would honestly not have gambled putting new puffers in with them in any event. It is a shame, as they are cute and full of personality.
I have one pea puffer in a ten gallon with 3 rasboras and they do just fine together. I really recommend these puffers as they are very unique fish and very curious little guys.
Thank you. I keep 3 on a 40ltr cube with curvy corners. All came from the same fish store so I think they get on! The tank is a slow moving undergravel system. I've got several sword plants thriving....a tablet a week. CO 2? I haven't tried, killed my shrimp ( The tank mates are interesting..apple snail and a nerite..male bristlenose.. petricolos catfish. 2 khuli loaches rake the gravel all day and feed at dark. A ball of moss is their table.
As always great info. I own two pea puffers, that's what's left. I was expecting them to live for two years, and didn't, plan for them to be a permanent part of the fishroom. But based on your information, I am going to make them a new tank, and buy some tankmates. Concerning nonpuffer tankmates, I have had luck with otos
Great advice and also discussion in the comments. I was given 3 a couple weeks ago and put them in my 29 gal live bearer pot luck tank. Planted, rocks, graveled, etc. They were tiny but are growing. They swim together. Hoping for a male and 2 females. Thanks Cory. Now, on to your vids about Fahaka. Picked this little one up over the weekend and had researched it before. Doing great in a 20 gal with some Gold Barbs and Brilliant Rasboras. Shy and small but a great eater. Thanks again..
I did/would keep the P. Puffers. I had five but no success with care so I had to start from scratch and learn more about better care for them. So far I have the "figure 8" and having great success thus far. I will soon start transition into marine. This one will be the only one in that tank due to it's very aggressive. I have another tank I plan to put the "green spotted" Puffers in. But I truly fell in love with having them as my feature tank. Thank you for the vid, I had a hard time finding updated information on this species.
I've got 3 of these guys with a few khuli loach, and it's a fantastic mix. The kuhlis are fast enough to get out of the puffers way, although my guys seem to not care about them anyways because they're too big to eat. The khulis are great for cleaning up the left over food on the bottom, but keep in mind my tank has many places to hide and plenty of plants.
I'm super late, but I just purchased my first two pea puffers yesterday for a new aquascape I recently made. I'm contemplating on seeing if I can get them to coexist with a couple of amano shrimp after I add a bunch of java moss this afternoon.
Keep in mind they Can jump. One of mine got excited about seeing getting their dinner ready and jumped out, didn't recover sadly. They are in my top 5 favorite fish. Thank you for all the helpful videos ☺
I was fishing in a lake in Kerala (India) the other day and wasn't catching anything... Frustrated I was packing up to leave... I made a swipe in the water with my fishing net and voila 2 pea puffers.... Soooooo cute They are now in my 9 gallon tank along with cardinal tetras, endlers and 2 platys
I have five pea puffers in my heavily planted ten gallon tank. They are in the tank with common guppies, amano shrimp, a vampire shrimp, Nerite snails, banjo cats, and a couple small plecos. I've had them for awhile now and all are doing well. I got five of them because in my research I read that they are a puffer species that likes to live in groups. That they aren't territorial as the other puffer species. Also, read that as juveniles they are all female and that a dominant female transitions to a male as they mature. I wasn't a big fan of puffers, but I really enjoy these little fish.
This is only in my experience, but I've found that I can put khuli loaches with my pea puffers. They are so quick, mostly hang out at the bottom, and hide so well, that the puffers never seem to bother them. I've also had luck putting hatchet fish with my puffers. They just don't swim in the same area of the tank, making for a harmonious combination of fish.
I know it’s an older video but so informative! I’m picking up a 29 gal this weekend and it will be my pea puffer tank. Aiming for about 6-10 of them! I have a community tank, African cichlids, a turtle, and a glo tank for my kiddos 😂
so much great info ! i am currently setting up a 5 gallon that will be dedicated to one pea puffer and snails. i am so excited :) also to find my parameters are perfect is great!
I love mine, have 5 in a heavily planted 20 long. They each have there own spot that they protect and will chase the others away. They are a very inquisitive fish and will come to the front every time I walk by.
I have 3 pea puffers in a community tank with cherry barbs, 2 plecos, guppies, and ghost shrimp. My little guys love hanging out around the driftwood and hiding in the plants :) They all tend to mind their own business, then again I do have them a large tank. Right now, they are my favorite fish. :)
awesome video! been looking what to put into my 10 gallon tank. give me pretty good idea. i got my filter in i love the filter it looks so great in the 50 gallon. no more hang on back filter and have to worry about filling it and replacing cartridges. im very happy and i already set it up. just wanted to say ty.
I have a female pea puffer named Ophelia with 4 black neons and 5 neons also with a pleco and big snails, I love watching when she's trying to eat the big snail or when She hides under the plants and attacks the live food that comes near, she's also really cute
We have 3 pea puffers in a 29 gal tank. It’s heavily planted, 12 neon tetras, 2 dwarf gourami, 1pleco, a couple mystery snails and some ghost shrimp. I honestly got the ghost shrimp expecting them to be taken out by the puffers and a few of them have. There’s the tell-tale carcass with a big bite taken out of the back... I feed frozen bloodworms and live black worms. They really enjoy the live black worms. I have to feed a lot at a time because the whole rest of the tank will gobble them up before the puffers get in on the action. They really like it though when some of the live worms don’t get eaten, slip into the gravel and then they stalk the gravel for the next few hours hunting! It’s so fun to watch. We love our little puffers. Only have them about 6 weeks, so I have no clue boys vs. girls.
What do you think about adding a airstone, in a 5 gal tank with a hub filter? Trying to figure out a way to eliminate waste settling in the left corner of the tank. Will the bubbles disturb his habitat?
I have 3 pea puffers and they aren't huge fans of frozen foods. They check it out and then swim away. They must eat it eventually or else they would have died. Now I have a good colony of ramshorn snails and my lfs has live brine shrimp. As soon as they see live food they attack them immediately. I love these lil puffers. Thanks for the great advice Cory!
I just put 3 Pea Puffers in a cubed 6 gallon tank.. I’m using all fake plants, but a large group of them! All are happy and after a few months like this, I think I can say that it is a success! I named them all “Pete” btw
@@shaynacarey1957 pretty sure the male killed the 2 females.. He then passed from old age, I think:( but now I put 6 pea puffers in my 20 gallon with 9 corydoras, a snowball pleco and 15 Amano shrimp.. all live plants now too
I'm sold. Decided I was done with betta fish after the one I have passes, but I wasn't sure if I'd be done with the tank too. I've wanted a dwarf puffer for years but thought keeping several of them in a large tank was the only option. Now I'm definitely putting a dwarf puffer in my five gallon when the time comes. Looks like I'll be staying in the fish hobby for a while longer than I thought.
I’ve got a female pea puffer in a heavily planted aquarium. She’s very, very docile for a pea puffer and lives with a group of guppies. Although she will kill a guppy every now and then she generally leaves them alone. I’ve got her on freeze dried blood worms, krill and the occasional live ghost shrimp.
Thanks for all the new information ! You had mentioned that their lifespan depends on water temperature and that they live up to 10 years in right conditions. What would be the ideal temperature to achieve this ? Many thanks.
Yo Cory I hear people talking about not being able to identify these guys, all the time and they could not be more incorrect, misinformation all over the webs on these little guys. Male Pea puffer's are super easy to identify at any size. Males have 1 to 3 vertical stripes behind their eyes to the cheeks, its small but there on every male big enough to sell. You can get a close up with microscope and see this line on the cheeks when they still have the yoke attached. It is a slight iridescence that will shine bright when the light hits it right. the older they get the more pronounced the lines becomes and the dominant males get a super pronounced lining pattern that even start to turn into rings around the eyes as well, the females do not have the lines and are nice and even coloring on the cheeks. If you take a look at the one at 3 min its a male has a single line on its cheek there, line the one at 7 min is a female no line. Additional dimorphic traits once they do get older though males start to get bright yellow tips on their fins and contrasting black spots where the females spots are foggy at the transitions between the color
Thank you for the advice and great replies. I'm caring for 8 in a 200 litre , its a gravel base , planted with grass and anubia. I will get swords soon, but use artificial ones to add height overall. I keep glass shrimp to clean the algea, 2 bristlenose and 4 ottos. I feed frozen bloodworm in the net and not much goes to waste. Live worm struggles to hide in the gravel! ITs too cold for snails now, but I hope a couple of outdoor tubs I've covered will give ramshorn. Funny, I really don't know their sexes or mating habits if any; Its nice to see them coast along in a caravan type trail.
I've got 4 in a 60 litre medium-densely planted tank and they all thrive perfectly well with my 1 ottocinclus, however I've tried them before with cherry shrimp as my LFS and an online forum said they would be fine but one aggressive male attacked the shrimp and killed it leading to me removing and rehousing the other shrimp. Love these fish but would not recommend housing with inverts. Great video Cory!
I have a discus tank and was wanting to get a 5-7 gal cube and I’m really considering getting one of these guys, thanks for the info, but I will do more research online first :)
when you treat them with more than one medicine, do you use each medicine at the same time, or do you run one treatment and then the next one afterward? i guess one at a time, or all at once?
I have a pea puffer that I got when he was tiny, she’s now about 3/4 of an inch. I feed her blood worms and brine shrimp. There’s trumpet snails in there but I have yet to see her eat one although there’s tons of empty shells. I do have to feed her 1 on 1 because the other fish always eat the worms before her. I have neons, tiger barbs, rainbow shark, gourami, angels, and Yoyo loach.
great video! I had purchased 3 Amazon Puffers. Only 1 made it through quarantine by he/she is really pretty cool. It is the boss in my 40 gallon breeder with gouramis, habrosus & panda corys and a couple BNP. I feed Puffy krill from tongs. The kids love that fish! I know the video was about pea puffers but I wanted to share.
Hi! I’m super new to aquariums and want to do all my research before I even begin the process of buying a tank and getting everything set up. Has anyone successfully dedicated a 5 gallon tank to one puffer? Do you find that’s too small? I don’t want to go bigger than a 10 and I only want 1 puffer but I want to make sure it’s as comfortable as possible.
Cory ...I love your passion when it comes to puffers.........I love Murphy!!!!!!!!! I have a question??? I have one pea puffer his name is puff baby......he has the dark line on his belly and noticed there is like a white spot on his cute little head......I don't think it just one of his markings..help....what should I do??? i put some med-fix in the tank..........what else can I do??
Hi! Would 2 pea puffers in a 9 gallon fluval flex be appropriate? That’s my betta’s current home, and he’s getting older so I’m thinking after he passes trying something different!
Thank you so much for your help today it’s been a great insight I am just a beginner I haven’t got a aquarium yet I am just learning about this beautiful gorgeous fish and you have a great way of explaining about your fish half I didn’t know about the names of types of certain fish and Murphy was your fish and I saw you feeding him so wanted more information I think you have the best information about everything so I have been following your u tube channel
How often do you recommend feeding these fellas? I have a variety of food for mine but I was wondering if you recommend cutting the frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp cubes to not over feed them?
I have 2 different pea puffer tanks that I keep. My first is a 10 gallon planted tank that I kept 3 in with shrimp as well as nerite snails and they were peaceful. My second tank is a 36 gallon that I made a community tank with 3 puffers. Everybody has been doing well with each other. I think that having it heavily planted has worked in my favor but the puffers have been able to live with plattys and zebra danio just fine, even a common pleco doesn’t bother them.

A pea puffer would puff peas by threes until he puffed all the peas he needs
That's adorable 😍😆😆
Depends on how many buddies he has.
500 gallon aquarium with pea puffers. Now, thats a vision.
500 gallon daphnia tank.

Anything that brings me enjoyment is not a waste. I'm sure, its the same with you. To each their own.

A little more high maintenance than other fish because of the live/frozen food diet, so when she passed, I eventually replaced her with a betta - just as active, very colorful, and easier to feed.

Damnit! I’ve been considering turning my empty 10 gallon into a pea puffer tank but i keep resisting the urge! Now i’m sold lol!
Are pea puffers freshwater or saltwater?
@@madalynbentz861 fresh
Haha!! Love this!! We have a shrimp named Jacques that was teeny and intended as food as well!!
"You might get bored after a few months..." I take offense to this! They're an awesome little fish, no idea how anyone could get bored of them haha
Well having fish in general can be boring after awhile, but who knows I just got mine today.
I think he said 3, 4,5 years
Also I've found one of the best ways to feed them is to have a separate tank that has snails (Ramshorn or Pond work out best), and lay some sinking carnivore pellets (I use NLS) in the tanks.
Some pet store will just give you the pest snails cause they don't want them
Big shout out in showing images to the meds you use on your fish!
This species profile rocks. As a dog person, whom has managed an animal shelter for 10 years, fosters dogs, rehabilitates dogs, and has had 6 dogs as part of my family in the past 15 years....Cory....- thank you. All creatures great and small.
Anyone watching during 2020 quarantine
Yes lol. Looking to get rid of my oscars. Parrots. Clowns and sharks and cat fish for these haha 7ft 785 litre tank 🤣
Nah
2021 quarentine... Here we go again!
Nope. 2022 and completely free again
It’s 2024 you still got puffers
Loved the video. I fell in love with pea puffers once I saw them on this channel several months back and bought 4 off of ebay as no shops in my area carried them. I have them in a 27 gallon planted cube. If you are on the fence about getting some, do it. They are easy to care for and so much fun. Thanks to Aquarium Co-Op for showing all the puffer love over the last few years, or I would have never have known about them! I'm the only person in probably a 100 mile radius that owns them! Kind of cool!
Lori Halstead how do you feed them when you're on vacation?
Candi Overhuls what filter do you use? I want to set my 20 gallon up for 6-7 pea puffers
can we get an update on those 7 looking to do something similar
@@taoutdoors8110 not op but I use a sponge filter and they are doing fine :)
Love this style of species profile!! 😍😍 You answered all the questions I had in 1 video! Thank you for always giving practical advice!!!
Thank you for making this! I'm obsessed with these little guys. I definitely want to keep these someday. This helps so much! 🐡🐡💙🐡🐡
They are so full of personality and run their jungle tank like the little kings and queens they are 🥰
Thanks. You’re info solidified my decision to not keep a puffers at this time. 👍
I have found that mine love Aquarium Co Ops freeze dried brine shrimp!! I was feeding other fish in the tank and I saw both of my puffers munching away which was super exciting. 😊
Awesome, glad they took to some dry food for ya
Love this video. I've been admiring pea puffers for a while now but didn't know if I could care for them. Thanks for making my decision easier.
And the paradise gouramis I moved to a species tank as they keep breeding!)
I do a lot of water changes.
When do dwarf puffers mature? Can’t find anything about that online 😐 thank you for a great channel!
Thanks for sharing! I ended up not getting anymore either when mine passed because they're definitely more high maintenance.
I would love to get some myself but it's stories like this that make me hesitate haha
I feel like if you get a male and female pair they would be worth it. I'm pretty sure there are ways to tell the difference. Spots and shape ect.
CO 2? I haven't tried, killed my shrimp (
The tank mates are interesting..apple snail and a nerite..male bristlenose.. petricolos catfish. 2 khuli loaches rake the gravel all day and feed at dark. A ball of moss is their table.
Very nice Corey gave the simple rundown of it love it dwarf puffers just look more intimidating than what they are
As always great info.
Super advice, they r so cute... 🤗 i have never seen 1 in RL but they do look the cutest.
I was just looking for videos on pea puffer care and then this video comes out the same day, thanks a bunch!
Great I wanna try this combination can you give me an update :D
How often do you feed your puffers? I have 5 in a 20, fed a cube of blood worms in a cone ever other day. They always look skinny to me.
Why every other day? would you want to be fed every other day? Minimum once a day!!
@@philiptomarchio9098 Every other day is a perfectly acceptable frequency to feed fish. One of the biggest issues in the hobby is overfeeding.
I'm leaning towards these guys instead of guppies for my 10 gallon. They're so fun to watch! You can tell they're intelligent.
Great video I have ember tetras with my pea puffers and they get along well
I'm super late, but I just purchased my first two pea puffers yesterday for a new aquascape I recently made.
Nichole Horn thats sad :(
I was fishing in a lake in Kerala (India) the other day and wasn't catching anything... Frustrated I was packing up to leave... I made a swipe in the water with my fishing net and voila 2 pea puffers.... Soooooo cute
They are now in my 9 gallon tank along with cardinal tetras, endlers and 2 platys
Bro give the little guys more space 🥲 from the lake to 9 gallon is a harsh transition 🤣
All that in a 10 gallon?
That 10 gallon is heavily overstocked...
Cypheri no one cares 😂
Thank you for your videos you make my day everyday please know you help me with rough times
You were correct Cory! I found myself looking for a new tank and fish after a few months and have added a 7 gal nano community tank
I just put 3 Pea Puffers in a cubed 6 gallon tank.. I’m using all fake plants, but a large group of them! All are happy and after a few months like this, I think I can say that it is a success! I named them all “Pete” btw
How's everything going now? :)
@@shaynacarey1957 pretty sure the male killed the 2 females.. He then passed from old age, I think:( but now I put 6 pea puffers in my 20 gallon with 9 corydoras, a snowball pleco and 15 Amano shrimp.. all live plants now too
@@Markstewart1989 oh no I'm sorry to hear that happened, but I'm glad you have a good set up going now! Thanks for the reply!
I have 2 in a 15 colum. Filled with guppy grass and lace rock. It's working out great.
Just got my 1st pea puffer! So excited! Thanks for the info!
Can we please pin this?
Wait. The only thing at 7:00 is Cory. Cory's a female Pea Puffer? The secret is out 👀
Thank youuu for just getting to the point I freaking adore that. Subscribed!
How many can you put in a 32.5 gallon fluval tank and can they do good in freshwater
Cole Sloan I have mine in a 2.5 gallon but am upgrading him to a 15 gallon
Just the video I was waiting for. Thank you so much for your knowledge on the Pea Puffer. I may be getting one but not sure yet.
Great video Cory!
are they better kept with your super sand or Flourite. or could you combine them to make easier grow plants
They are honestly so cute they look like an animated character. Some day...
What would you recommend as filter in a 20 long.
A five gallon for 1 is perfectly fine.
Id really like to see an update video of the CSP’s you got. Really looking forward to seeing how it all works out!
Cory ...I love your passion when it comes to puffers.........I love Murphy!!!!!!!!! I have a question??? Hi! Would 2 pea puffers in a 9 gallon fluval flex be appropriate? That’s my betta’s current home, and he’s getting older so I’m thinking after he passes trying something different!
Thanks for the educational video. I love this style of species profile.
