My very first fish was a green spotted puffer named Squishy.💚 It was a very steep learning curve. Being young and naive, I didn’t do my research beforehand. All I saw was the cutest little fish I’d ever seen, and I fell in love with her instantly. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I made a lot of mistakes, but I learned A LOT and became a better fish keeper. Now, being a single mom of a young boy, I don’t have the time or energy to get another one and provide adequate care. Some day I will have another. I’ll always have a soft part in my heart for green spotted puffers! 💚🐡RIP SQUISHY🐡💚

Just came across this video. Wish it would have been around when I first started keeping Amazon Puffers. By far the most practical and watchable video on caring for them out there and you go into excellent but easy to understand reasons as to why to care for them that way. I’ve been keeping them for awhile now and I still learned a lot. VERY interesting and informative. Thank you!

I keep my Amazon Puffer, Snooter, with a big school of Pseudomugil Luminatus and Panda Garras. My favorite tank. All peaceful. Gotta try the repashi thing, I trim his teeth every few months.

Mealworms help with puffers teeth with them having a hard exoskeleton and they will also put the weight on in skinny puffers if you haven't tried them you should

Hello Dan! Greetings from Brazil. Despite the Amazon puffer being native to this region, we don't have much information available about the species, so since I have one of these little guys, I decided to do some more in-depth research and ended up finding your channel. I managed to find oyster flour here, but not the other product you use, I believe it's not available here. I thought about using agar agar and mixing it with oyster flour, adding some protein, for example shrimp, and a bit of spirulina. Do you think it's enough to keep him healthy and avoid the need to trim his teeth? I want to avoid that as much as possible. Also, I usually leave some live snails available in his aquarium for him to forage and hunt for food. Thanks in advance for the content, really cool channel!

Great info. I do want to mention that mola molas are related to puffers but are actually sunfish.
"Sunfish" in this case literally means nothing. They are in no way related to other sunfish found in freshwater (Centrarchidae). Mola Mola are technically a puffer fish aka Tetraodontiformes

Not so much a fish nerd as I just love my puffer fish! I kept them a few years ago and just bought a new 200l L corner tank for the new house so just letting it cycle before collecting a few! But I think I'm going to go with the Amazon puffer this time, it's one I've never kept or been able to get hold of but rec my LFS said they had 5 types of puffers in and will be putting the new batch they got in out on Thursday from quarantine so I actually quite excited to see what's there haha!

Hi, you didn't mention what the minimum tank size for these guys are.
I kept 5 in a 30 gallon. I also had corydoras and 1 figure 8 puffer. As long as you have tons of plants that they can hide behind they'll be fine. Mine were in a heavily planted tank so everyone could hide if wanted.

Puffers are toxic/poisonous and not venomous. Venomous is transfer of toxins through biting where as poisonous is transfer of toxins by absorption

Not just biting. As long as it is injected into the body as opposed to being eaten, it is venomous. So for example, many sea urchins are venomous despite not having a mouth suited for biting. This is because they inject the venom through their spines into you. Pufferfish spines don’t have any toxins though, so pufferfish are purely poisonous.

Thank you so much for this treasure mine of info! I've ordered one amazon puffer to add to my community aquarium, I'm hoping they'll be a little sweetheart and not cause trouble with my fishies, I do have congo tetras, a plakat betta and a decent amount of more placid fishes and yeah... I can live with a tiny fin nip once in a while, but hopefully the little bugger won't kill anything.... I've got a colony of buffalo worms for my tarantulas and I wonder if Mariquita will take them (the name I chose for my little bugger, it both means ladybug in Spanish, after Cory's Mbu puffer, and a slur for gay people, don't worry I'm one of them :P) I've also got frozen bloodworms and artemia (live foods are very hard to come by in Spain) and I'm ordering a starter colony of ramshorn snails, I also have freeze dried gammus shrimps (not sure if its the same name in English) it's usually used as turtle food, I've also seen reports of them taking normal dried foods sometimes, but as you can see I'm not relying on that. my aquarium is for the most part well planted (40 gallons), but I just recently removed some plants to add some new ones that haven't grown in yet, I'm also injecting co2.
One important question I have, a friend told me their poop is also toxic, do you know that to be true???
We have 1 right now. We weren't sure how many would be ok together. So we're thinking about grabbing 4 or so more to put with him. Unfortunately he was grabbed by one of my Clown Loaches so he's in the hospital tank right now. But as soon as he's better we're going to put him into a different tank with our empire gudgeon and peacock gudgeon and really want to put some friends in there with him. We hope you'll have them I'm stock soon. Thanks for the great information about them. It's hard to find good information on Amazon puffers specifically.

Always keep 5 or more of Amazon's. They're very social and you will see their personalities come out.

I have a new Amazon puffer and he is in a temporary set up but he does not seem happy at all he is swimming vertical and has refused to eat the blood worms I give him and these are the same worms they fed to him in the store what do I do is he cold?? Because I don't have a tank heater
Your temps should be in the mid 70’s, 76 is the generally accepted sweet spot

Some constructive criticism, I feel like the sound effects were turned up to 80 on this production. Maybe tone em down a bit, it was a little distracting at times. Still very much enjoyed the video. 👍

I added 6 buffer fish to my fish tank, innocently believing that my fry of galaxy rasboras would be just fine but it turn out that one of them began hunting them. I think buffers also might eat small fish that fit in their mouth.
I hated it! It is over produced and very annoying! I have watched all your videos to the end, but could not only watch 2 minutes. You could have done a video of all fish in this 2 days instead! I looked and you do not even have these Puffers in stock.
Agreed about the over produced part. I think I went overboard with the sound effects. Oh well...its all a learning curve. It will slowly get better.
