- I have made so many guides on how to make money in oldschool runescape, so i think its about time I make a guide on how to spend money.
Obviously spending money in theory is very simple, but doing so in an efficient way can be challenging. Many players will often get trapped in the cycle of saving money for minor gear upgrades, when there are often way better things to spend your GP on. So today I am going to run though in my opinion the best way to spend your money from the early game through to the late game.

Really comprehensive guide, the only thing missing I'd say is spending money on skills for diaries! You mention spending to get a quest cape, but diaries sort of go hand in hand with that. Not to mention that telling people to get a quest cape is a pretty daunting suggestion, and diaries are great because they also give incremental bonuses on completing them.

@@SllowMo yeah, diary cape is much more daunting. But my point was sorta less about setting the cape as a goal, but setting specific diaries with useful rewards as a goal. Various hard diaries like varrock which gives free money daily, same with Kourend.
@@ffcc4g30fk1lling I'd say some skilling capes are easier purely for the AFK factor - Like 99 cooking, or fletching for example. They take longer maybe, but they are much more AFK and are thus easier to obtain depending on the person.
Quest cape is east! But it took me ages to get my achievement diary cape, was super worth it though progressed my account very well
Thank you for refocusing my brain to upgrade my account like POH and questing before worrying about the gear upgrades. I've been stressing about getting money for upgrades I don't need yet and forgetting about important milestones for my account. Great video and keep up the great work
This is a fantastic video idea and I get asked this constantly. I'll refer them to this video!
i wanna add that when you go for max combat, minimum should be 77 prayer for all prayers you can use. then from there i would recomend leveling it up so that each time you get an additional point per sip of a potion. every 4 levels you get one more dose so aim for 80 first, then 84, 88, 92, and finally 96 is the last level you get a bonus point. you use a TON of prayer potions or restors and each point adds up very quick. eventually you will get your money back because of the extra point or two you wouldnt of gotten if you stay at 77
Shout out to my boy brimstone ring who always gets forgotten. For 1 million gold less than an archer ring you get a ring with the benefits of all the unimbued Fremennik and Wilderness rings (ignoring ring of the gods).
It’s one item for all 3 combat styles. Can’t be imbued so delays the need to grind nightmare zone points. Even has fringe unique benefits like it’s chance to ignore 10% of the targets magic defense and combing attack bonuses with a strength bonus. If you are considering picking up the berserker ring or archers ring I would recommend just picking up a brimstone ring and sitting on it for a while until you can purchase and imbue most of the other rings.
Also, for those of you with hesitation about leveling construction. Please consider mahogany homes!! The gp/xp is significantly better at the cost of the the xp/hr capping at around 150k xp/hr. Mahogany plank contracts are under 6gp/xp and teak contracts are under 3gp/xp!! The lowest rates I saw with other methods were around 9gp/xp (teak benches/mounted mythical capes). That means my grind to 84 construction was 6 to 9 million gold cheaper even using mahogany planks.
Also getting to run around the world as a contractor saved me infinite sanity compared to spam clicking build and remove in one spot 😂

Great guide. I have so far fallen into the trap of wanting gear over stats but will go for this strategy instead. I wasn’t sure how effective upgrades were over actual levels
Such a fantastic guide. Honestly felt like I was always a little stuck on debating levels versus gear in a lot of instances. This really helped me know what to prioritize!
99 lvl with mystic > 80 with ancestrial. Bofa, ancestrial, fang > spend money on Tbow. Use your money for most posible progress,. And ofc better just play Ironman))
I love this video alot because I just started around 1 month ago and I'm around 77 combat and have many other skills and I just been soloy focusing on quest cape because I feel like that is where all the content lies and keep up the Great work your old videos have aged well!
I'd recommend not doing combat unless you're doing slayer, bosses, or raids...in my opinion.

I agree with everything and I want to point out that maxing out your combat stats is probably more viable for a new player throughout slayer starting at 65-75 overall... But the point of the vid is to spend money so i understand the slayer method dosent fit. Still, i think its worth mentioning for new players.

For those of you training mage and worried about the cash, train your crafting too! Level to 45 mage however you like (Questing rewards a massive chunk of that), invest in camelot tp until 55, and then once you have your high alchemy a large amount of the jewelry you can make ends up as a net positive while you're afk farming mage up to 75+. Not the fastest method, but definitely a cost effective way of handling 2 stats at once

Very detailed progression guide. I am currently in the process of getting out my quest cape and grinding my skills to get quest requirements. Just doing some birdhouse and herb runs to get passive income, in between grinding and progressing quests. Still yet to get my firecape as well, kept fucking up at Jad when the healers come out.
I was doing bird houses and implings for my quest cape grind, doing clues inetween snagged myself a 3rd age kite.
Tried 3 times to kill jad, and always fucked up on healers :d
Great video but if I buy 99 range or magic then I’m wasting the XP I would be getting from training slayer and bossing! Otherwise these are some good tips, i think I’ll work on my quest cape.
Why would the nightmare staff save you a bit of money in the long run for training magic? Is it because it’s the most reasonable addition for mage bonus to minimize splashes or is there something else it does? Great video btw

I just bought my first bond after a few days of f2p. first time playing. all of this information is so overwhelming; the possibilites.
I love how nonchalantly you recommended getting a Quest Cape. Is it really a feasible mid-game goal or more end-game? (I don't play OSRS)
It was my goal the second I bought my first bond. The most annoying parts for me were getting good enough at certain boss mechanics to do them correctly, and having the motivation to grind out the skill requirements. I'm really bad at PvM so finally achieving that cape was pretty surreal to me.
I know that this comment is very late for this video but I was curious if anyone who sees this can answer when we should focus on the achievement diary, this was a very well put video and I personally now have a direction to go because of it but it makes me think of when or if the achievement diary is worth going for completing or doing the tiers.
A cheap way to get construction up in level is to try to get a phoenix pet by doing solo wintertodt runs. 75 construction so far.

When you said “many people unfortunately prioritize slight item upgrades” I audibly said “oooh that’s me.” Recently i bought an abyssal whip which i -just- have the stats for but i learned you can’t use it to effectively train strength so im stuck in this weird 70 atk 70 def 67 str and i dont NEED def or atk anymore at this point but i cant train it with the whip effectively so ive got like 100k left and a whip that’s worse off for me for training and im very tempted to iust sell it and get more than 11 construction and just keep using my dragon scim.
just buy a saradomin sword which costs a fraction of a fraction of what the abby whip costs
What's your thoughts on Splitbark/Swampbark/Bloodbark? I don't see them referenced often as options.
As an enjoyer of the bark sets for their aesthetics. There isn’t really a good use case for them. They don’t beat the magic bonus of mystic robes. So those are better when safe spotting. And typically if you are getting hit you are praying so the defense is negligible compared to a prayer bonus.
I used them for style and added defense against my own stupidity on slayer tasks 😂 but strictly speaking mystic robes would have probably done a better job.
Can you make a guide on how to cost/time efficiently level up construction and create a maxed poh?

I wouldn't advice going for quest cape, but going for the best grandmaster quest reqs, to unlock barrows, zulrah, mm2, vorkath-rune dragons and Bofa.
More than that has diminishing returns.
Easily few 3 bonds (21M to spend) are very worth it to speedrun a mid lvl acc.
75 rang 75 mage
43 pray is only 1 bond total and mm1 quest
Zombie axe is a great bridge between dragon scimi and whip
Thanks, I find it kinda difficult to know what to upgrade. I think I'll buy a rapier next though I think I'll sell my anguish and torture for it, to buy them back later. I feel that'll be the best dps increase I can currently do.

In my many years palying runescape, the value of items will ALWAYS go up and down. Your GP is always more valuable being used to level your skills. I.e. construction, crafting, etc.
Aww shit I was just at that last bit with the end-game gear progression. I assume T bow first or should I invest in a scythe first? That kinda stuff.
if you can afford it the tbow is the better option, the only place you can really make money using a scythe is by doing more tob with it because it's very expensive to use to the point that you lose money using it at most other places

Really good guide! Only issue is with the quest cape, perfectly achievable to do all but 1 quest; “Night at the Theatre”. Which should be a mini quest and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.
What portal plug in is that?
A method to get construction exp while slow but low cost or cost positive would be to do wintertodt, getting to about 90-92 firemaking along the way will get you within the goal of 50 construction, it also sets up to have some resources to put into other skills and bring in some raw GP to the account directly.

ya u dont rly need bandos if ur not doing raids etc anyways. just train slayer wearing procelyte and use fighter torso + obby legs (or tank legs) for other stuff.
Just for the record, 83 is probably the most valuable construction level, but 84 is required to boost for the highest level Portal Nexus, and 87 if you want your spirit tree and fairy ring combined (totally not necessary).
I'm grinding construction right now, just got 82, and I'll be going for 84 for that last Nexus.

Ok can I get a part two for late game? I have everything done in this one already. I got the Tbow, Shadow, Ancestral, and Bandos and 99 all CB skills + prayer. Now I am debating on getting masori or torva next or should I just go for the base 80s then base 90s and eventually a max cape.

@@kitchensnake649 naw im just kinda lost for the late game. I kinda jumped a lot of steps because one day I was Tbow rebuilding, then I soloed a shadow and suddenly I am end game ready.
Training mage at the mage training arena in al kharid will not only give you mage xp, but really good gp profit so you never go negative there. Temporess is a very good way to get passive construction xp up to 50 while making a lot of gp in fish
And you’re also chipping away on that hard diary task for lumby which sucks

What method do you do to get 83 construction for 20m?
Adept (teak) contracts through Mahogany Homes -- I'm lvl 70 and just banked ~83 construction for around 7m (between teak planks, steel bars, and runes for teleports)

training range is totally free, just invest like 150m into a bowfa & crystal armour set, 2k shards to corrupt it, and boom free range xp

I disagree with training your stats before buying a fury maybe even a berserker ring. I hear you tho, stats are very important, but I think the DPS that you get towards ranged/melee xp/hour is significant for 1-2m which isn't too difficult to make on a main account. I like the video overall and would like to hear your thoughts on when to purchase big ticket items like bow of Faerdhinen or scythe if they are even worth it because of up keep cost.
i think what he means by this is that u can do most stuff easier with 70+ combat stats and a glory much easier than you would than having 50+ combats with a fury, if u are on a budget and has to prio one of them

I think you could mention that 84con is required to boost for the maxed out portal nexus. I know it's not something everybody will need, but just mentioning it could be really useful to some players.

It's just a convince thing for people who have a little money to spend, party house world is always very crowded, and laggy. Plus it's alot quicker to tab into your own house than someone else's.

@@Ricardo_Rick its doesnt have many uses outside of toa after the nerf. its no longer best in slot at anywhere except for toa and nex and doesnt really justify its price when you could get a lance and bludgeon for the same price and theyre both better at almost everything. ironmen however it is great still because it is quite versatile and 10x easier to get than a lance or bludgeon and will still do well (just no longer bis)
is good for bandos and any meelee boss with high defence, not bis but still a neat adition to the weapon table for bossing and progression :^)

For those new game players who want to hold their gold: Don't. I don't mean spend it all but if you can afford to upgrade your gear for the short term do it! You will always be able to sell it when you're done and you will benefit from it much more than saving that few hundred thousands and struggling.
Also don't neglect questing. It might suck but in certain cases the reward is worth it in the long run.

When does it make sense to to use cheaper resources and when do you use expensive? For example: big bone vs dragon bone, oak plank vs mahogany plank, blank chin vs red chin, barraging vs powered staffs etc.
It just comes down to how much you value your time. You could get 70 prayer with big bones for much cheaper than dragon bones, but it’ll take significantly more time. If you calculate the cost difference and the time difference between the two, is taking X more hours worth saving X amount of gp for you? And if you break it down to the cost per hour, do you value your time at or above X gp/hr?
Also in case you didn’t know already, you should never be training with powered staves. They give less xp per damage done than actual spells.

The money you can earn per hour is a huge factor.
If you can earn 1m an hour, it's better to choose the method that costs 10m and 20 hours, than the method that costs 2m and 40 hours.
The first method takes 10 hours to gather the cash, and 20 hours to train, for 30 effective hours spent. The second method takes 2 hours to gather the cash, 40 hours to train, for 42 hours total.
Figure out the time to reach your goal, how much it'll cost, then figure out how long it'll take to earn the money to cover it. Choose whichever method is faster overall.
Obviously this is just the pure efficiency route though. Lots of people will spend more than is "efficient" to get through a skill they hate like construction.
Tbh for prayer u can do ensoul heads for cheaper if u got fairy ring unlock. Depends on how fast u really need it

guys i have your idea doing quests for the status experience your spent not too much money if you doing that quest to take lots and lots of experience levels that quests dragon slayer 2 monkey madness 2 song of the elves these quest so good if you doing that quest you have the so much experience but that take so much time and you spent not too much money if you doing all the quest you have so much status thats my idea for you guys and next doing all the quests to the entire game and your guys unlock so much ways to get money and so much locations
The best way to spend money, is however you want. It's a game, have fun.
Can we PLEASE stop telling new players to get 43 prayer using dragon bones. You can do it with big bones for a third of the cost and it still takes less than an hour. For an early game account whose money makers max out in the low hundreds of k per hour it makes absolutely zero sense to splurge on a 30 minute time save.
BRING BACK THE COMBAT ACHIEVEMENT HARDCORE IRONMAN !!
Make a profit only account where you train with methods that make the most amount of money at the level

Honestly super ineficcient to spend that much money on maxing range. It would be far more cost effective and enjoyable to do it on the way to 99 slayer while cannoning.

Upgraded gear is actually a priority with how fast the market is inflating. Buy that bandos gear and sit on it because you may be able to get a profit just by holding high value items... Just saying. Some of this advice is hit or miss

Archer ring is useless at any point in an account, your money is better spent at a unenchanted gold ring.
going straight to 99 is kinda waste id recommend stopping at 96/97 you will get passive xp from bossing raiding and whatever
Yeah 94-95 is where id recommend stopping, especially where you are most likely not doing cox solos, tob, high invo toas or inferno where 99s are a must ideally.
