    • @concon264
      @concon264 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TohPhimmasenh if you're editing large chunks of H.265 video it makes your computer work harder on the editing and playback side of thing when inside the editor due to 4k H.265's higher bitrate. ProRes can cut the bitrate by over a quarter without losing quality on the highest bit rate setting & the other settings but I'm not 100 percent convinced (ProRes 422 LT is the lowest bitrate setting at 147Mbps VS uncompressed 4:2:2 video being 1,326Mbps), this reduction in bitrate will ease the load on a computer editing the footage to them export to H.265.
      I have no issue editing H.265 video in resolve/capcut (different software dependant on what's needed) on my M2 Max MBP, but the max length on my timeline is maybe 5 minutes. My co-worker who is the main videographer and editor at my workplace has the same MBP but works with much bigger and longer source video and it takes quite a toll on his machine, even when using resolve over Pr/Ae. Adobe Pr & Ae are also horribly optimised for Apple silicon because Adobe just don't care, I guess? But that's a different thing all together.

    I needed this! As you pointed out, the cages and gear are a bit much for someone who's a hobbyist or casual filmmaker. For instance, I have an upcoming vacation for a week in wine country, and want to take as much video as I can, but I also want to *use* my phone as well! I already have the Sherpa gear, and putting together this little kit wouldn't take a lot of effort. This was a godsend, and thank you so much for sharing!

    Great stuff! Love that SSD setup. My only addition would be that by using various USB splitters you can also run auxiliary power and an external mic. It will make the rig a bit bigger, but having lots of power and avoiding the need to sync audio in post may be helpful to some users.

    I prefer using a mic and ssd on a hub. There is a HUGE difference between a tiny iPhone cage and an fx3 rigged up.
    I got the neewer cage, and a K&F VND, and I can use the cold shoes to put mic and ssd, and it’s a tiny bit bigger, but the beauty of the cage is you slide your phone in when you want to film and out when you are done.
    I am looking at using the 180 degree adapter for the hub, then another for the ssd.

    Thanks for pointing me in the direction of using the small NVME SSD and enclosure. I had been doing something exactly the same using both thumb drives for iPhone 13 and a Crucial X9 pro / X10 pro SSDs with a MagSafe wallet. Having a compact iPhone setup in your pocket yields a lot of good B roll shots for me when I least expect it. I also use the Hohen M6 and the one LUT. There isn't a large enough market for Apple to solve the microphone problem. Facebook had to enter the VR space before Apple thought the numbers would work. Just how Blackberry showed Apple that the smartphone market was worthwhile.
      I think you're going to see Apple continue to make the iPhone the best portable all-around camera on the market. They already have the photo market on lock. Next up is the video market. Maybe they'll target the filmmakers next?

    Don’y let anybody con you into buying proprietary filters. Polar Pro’s iPhone 15 case takes standard filters. Also, note that an iPhone 15 will recognise only a limited number of NVMe drives, and this particular enclosure gets clobbered by a number of Amazon reviewers.

    • @thesavagefilmmaker
      @thesavagefilmmaker  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you buy the Polar Pro case (which is more expensive) you also have to buy the seperate filter adapter. You also have to screw your filter on and off everytime you use it. Unlike the Sherpa's version which lets you snap them on and off in an instant. It's not a con, it's a better system. And as mentioned in other comments this NVME drive works exceptionally well as long as it's been formatted first on your computer. Sharpen up.

On mac this simply means plugging the SSD in, opening 'Disk Utility' selecting the SSD drive and formatting it to ExFat and naming it. Once formatted it will be readable by your Iphone. My joy at their great design quickly turned to disappointment when each attempt to record ProRes gave me the "write speeds too slow" dialog after spinning to process the file. • @thesavagefilmmaker

      I use both of those adapters, they are not wide angle, they are just ND filters to control the amount of light you are letting into the lens. Each adapter is a different strength, If I were to pick one, I'd go with the 6-9 stop ND the stronger one as I use it most often.

  • @JackThompson-q4r
    @JackThompson-q4r 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Amazing guidance for the specific use case you laid out, brilliant. In my case, I'd love to shoot with log and and ND filter, but I would like the ability to record sound internally. Looking at the record modes on the 15pro, I see that it can shoot log in 1080, potentially negating the need for a external SSD if the clips were somewhat short, like a cinematic shot of my toddler picking her nose at the beach and then pissing her pants. I have a small pocketable microphone I could plug in to get around the phone's mic being blocked by the ND filter? What do you think? I know some footage looks best when downsampled from 4K to 1080, so I really don't know if the image quality we're after demands 4K recording, in which case, I'll have to potentially bin this whole thing. Home movies without sound just seems kind of sad.

    • @thesavagefilmmaker
      @thesavagefilmmaker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes will work absolutely. I record straight into cam if I don't have my SSD setup to hand in 4k Pro res LT, and then you can utilise the USB C for audio. And look, there's also absolutely nothing wrong with 1080 in my opinion. Nice even smaller setup with only the ND filter.
