I have plenty of semi auto handguns. But no revolver's! Even tho I grew up with them. I saw this exact gun online and thought it looked like a good piece.. powerful, fairly compact. I'd love to have one.. couldn't find one. Until last week. Found one put it on lay a way. Excited to get it home and put rounds through it.
Nice gun I have one now for 37 years and have shot thousands upon thousands of rounds through it. I have the 8 3/8 barrel and it shoots like a rifle. You shouldn't be disappointed.
Interesting purchase story of this firearm. I picked this up on sportsman warehouse for $899 a few months ago and when I went to pick it up they told me it was actually $799. They then gave me a $100 credit in which I proceeded to buy ammo. But as you said in the video this is ALWAYS sold out.
Mine came with 2 keys. I don't understand why people hate on the frame lock so much It doesn't bother me at all I don't use the lock but I'm glad it's there in case I want to ensure that it can't be used by a child or somebody else if they happen to stumble across it and what I mean stumble across it I mean break into my safe to get it.
Love my 6" 686+ 38spl feels like 22 out of it and it handles 357 like a champ and the trigger isn't bad.. it's lighter than the one on my Ruger sp101 4"
@@freddyhernandez9418 MK-Tek makes an awesome holster for it. Yes it weighs more than lots of plastic guns but its totally manageable. Good belt from KORE and a nice holster and you can wear it all day no problem.
14 pound double action trigger seems to be about average for this $1,100 revolver. 5 pounds for the SINGLE action trigger...right about where their M&P semi autos are at...
I disable the key lock on all my new Smith's. Takes about 10 min if you know what you are doing. That being said, the only time i have ever had a key lock actually fail and lock my gun up from recoil was my model 69 combat magnum. Ps Smith does not use a transfer bar. That is Rugers design. Smith uses a hammer block system. Sounds similar but is entirely different in function.
Got the boot grip on mine…i carry it when camping in the backcountry. This is a solid and beautiful gun! Love it! Nice review! 🇺🇸 can you tell me what shoulder holster you bought? I’ve never used one..but interested. Thanks so much! God bless!
I think a British firm owned s w at one time, and they caved to pressure to have a safety key put on the revolvers. I could be wrong. However, I wouldn't buy one because of that reason. Ruger, Colt and others do not have it.
Just left a gun show yesterday and they had one for sale and the asking price was 1150.00 new in the box. Maybe where you live at, they are selling for 800.00 but not here in North Florida.
The key is the same damn key for every one of their guns. No way is S&W going to bother with a unique key. They just introduced the lock for legal liability reasons, not because they thought it would make any difference. It's worth noting that none of the other preeminent gun manufacturers have a lock/key. Just get a Ruger and never worry about the key.
Lol.... I own the exact same gun, It ain't nothing man You should try firing my 629 44 Magnum now that got a little bit of a kick... I can do A thousand rounds of 357 with these grips all day long and not think twice.
It's not I've got this exact same gun and it's not even an issue ...just old school people are butt hurt over it, But it doesn't detract from the guns function at all
@@GrandCrusader No, "old school people" are not "butt hurt" over the frame lock. However, it's how it came about that bothers people. S&W didn't just up and offer the frame lock as an additional option. Oh no, they turned their backs on the 2A community and made a deal with the virulently antigun clinton adnministration to put those on their guns. THAT'S the problem and why people hate it. Fortunately, the unAmerican british owners of S&W that did that are gone and now the company is under new management.
Even though its tried and true on 357 and below calibers, people have said with higher pressure rounds, that it caused the key lock to engage, not many have encounter this problem but a few have, with that said, thats why the keylock is so bad because its a crucial part that could fail, id still buy one with the keylock on 357 and below calibers but id put a lot of rounds through them to develope the trust with the firearm, i prefer them without it like on my 642
Sorrry you di dnot like the video maybe the range part of the video that I will be uploading soon will be more to your liking. Have a merry christmas and thanks for watching...
This is my favorite revolver! Shoots as well as it looks!
I believe the key fits all the S&W revolvers and is primarily a kid safety thing.
Yep the Hillary hole
Yep, Taurus does it as well. Folks don't care for it but a lock doesn't bother me. Done for good reasons and they have to address it.

Do you have it now? How does it shoot?

Ya this is gonna be my next gun buy I think I'll purchase the 4 and 1/4 barrel
I have had the exact Mod 696 you have for about a year and a half now! It is one of my favorite guns to shoot!
Okay…? Alright…? Ok, alright? Alright, okay? Alright… alright… okay…. okay? Alright. 😂😂😂😂😂. jk. Thanks for the review, okay? Alright.

My first handgun, a long time ago. 4 inch. 7 rds. Still a favorite.
I have the exact model. I bought mine two yrs ago and paid $1000. Great gun, shoots beautifully..

What kind of mickey mouse safe do you have that people can break into?! I mean maybe if they had a couple hours and an acetyl-oxy torch..
Because they been known to lock the pistol up under recoil they suck just like the Clinton’s do
Sure they will find the tool to disable it. lol
These locks can and have under magnum loads lock up the gun. I disabled the lock after it happened to mine.
I love SW but they didn't have to include the lock. Colt didn’t do it.🤷♂️
Beautiful pistol Just beautiful!!!

U can hand polish that pistol with Mothers mag polish to remove those swirls
I used Simicrome. Looks beautiful !
Really nice tool!❤
The question is would you prefer this or a 2.75" model 66?
Yes I think I would
Sir I have the 686-6 talo edition picked it up Christmas 2022 NO PROBLEM! DA -SA IS SWEET NO PROBLEM 👍🏿🎯👍🏿
Just so you know, there are aftermarket replacement parts to get rid of the stupid lock.
That is a handsome pistol.
Excellent personal carry weapon
is not too heavy to carry every day ?

nice review
That's a beauty. Great choice.
I cannot understand all the talking on these things. Seems like we could get to the point.
Anyway, thanks.
OK .. OK ! 😅 ! ( good review ! ) 👍🏻
Your welcome brother
I have the same model and also the 5" and they're both accurate revolvers
Okay
I have the 4 in barrel model and I still carry it. I like those Altamont Grips.

I keep a S&W key in my wallet, just in case. I have 2.5”and 3” 686+ revolvers, and they’re great. 👍👍👍👍
Which one do you like better?
Just in case what? Is the lock being inadvertently engaged a concern?
Lock comes right off if you take the gun apart.
I just got one of these my trigger break is 2.78 lbs
The strange thing with the lock is, its not on any of their pistols. Its just on the revolvers. That is very irrational.
If you think they sale for 1100, 1200, you made a bade swap!
Those have been selling for 800 for a year now.
Picked mine up 9 month ago for 800
