I had an absolutely stunning revelation: they'll keep putting them out like that as long as we keep buying them.

I would buy this kind of Revolver just so that small scratches don't matter. This is the great work horse Revolver.

U can fix those scratches with mothers wheel polish , if there super deep wet sand first with 2000 grit sandpaper first , make sure paper is wet , there is another TH-camr Big Swoll has a channel on S&W shows u how to polish pistols

Great video, thank you!!! I've wanted the 3 inch model forever!!! I'm just looking and waiting for a local dealer to get one in stock, I don't want to order online, too may QC issues with S&W reported lately. A local dealer by me has a couple of the 3" 3-5-7 model but I really like the fluted cylinder verses the non-fluted that comes with the 3-5-7 model.

Just got one last month, 4.25” 686+ Distinguished Combat Magnum. Took the hogue grips off, and with some Mother’s polish and a couple hours now it’s practically a mirror. Took it to the range, and it’s just as accurate as my S&W 4506, can put all 7 rounds in the x ring.

When my wife wanted a revolver, I showed her some options online as I was deployed at the time & she settled on the 686. When I got home, I was surprised to see 7 chambers; that’s 1 more than my Ruger. She got the plus & hadn’t even realized it. Hers came with nice looking rosewood grips but I had to replace them with a rubber grip for her.

@ if you’re interested, I’ve got the rosewood grips sitting in a box of parts & probably won’t be using them. I will have to double check but it’s a strong possibility they won’t be used here again

Mine was bad...I did a hand polish job and spring swap, added rosewood target grips. Now, it is as slick as any classic S&W. It's a shame they don't come from the factory like that.

That is a beautiful gun. I love stainless and am looking to get a Ruger Vaquero single action in 357 stainless. If you have a single action I would love to see that video. And I also think 1911s are a great looking firearm and are more than a tool. They are art and defender of home and castle.

Something has got to give regarding the QC on these firearms. The S&W revolvers that I have all are pre-lock and before MIM with the exception of I think one. All of them have exceptional fit and finish. Guess I got lucky but yeah, they all have good ones and the occasional run of not so good ones. It's a shooter for sure Matt and looking forward to it and the Python comparison. Great video and really enjoy the revolver content!

S&W has a QC control problems, but the cause is this: S&W hired a few bad employees who do a shoddy job, and S&W let the product pass on to the dealers--there is no intercept function in the factory, it seems. The dealers then sell the below-quality merchandise to the customers, knowingly or unknowingly. My son gifted me an unfluted 686+, and in his excitement, he did not notice the major flaw while at the FFL: the barrel was canted to 11 o'clock. Otherwise, it was a flawless specimen! Maybe it will show up sometime in March from S&W after 5 months of turn-around time.
S&W is not what it used to be.😕

Compared to Smith&Wesson's matte, the Luger's glossy material is better looking and more classy, both in terms of material and construction and in fact between the 686 and the GP100 I've always preferred the GP100 even with the Colt.

I always feel that the Luger GP-100 is more realistic than the Smith & Wesson 686, and Luger's overall frame structure, commonly known as "a lump of steel", is stronger than Smith & Wesson and Colt.

I have the same 686-6 plus. I just could not stand the rubber grips. I went with Altamount walnut grips. So much better than the cheesy rubber. I am always pleasantly surprised by how well I can shoot the 686-6 4" barrel. It's maybe too heavy for carry around (i'm small) but it is just fun to shoot at the range.

Had many issues with my new 686. Bought it a couple years ago. Sent it back to S&W. Came back to me with the same issues I sent it back to S&W with. Light primer strikes. Cylinder coming loose. Factory grip interfered with hammer spring. Had to cure all this BS myself. $900 revolver that needed work to function from the start.

@@wyominggunproject I bought a new 686+ a few months ago. The cylinder locked up after a hundred rounds because the ejector rod was bad. Upon close inspection, the end of it looked like it had been hacksawed off crookedly. Then I bought one of their "performance center" revolvers and had mechanical problems. The quality control is not what it used to be. I have a model 66 from 1977 that still functions perfectly after thousands of rounds.
