As it turns out, 2 min of screentime is enough to get me to buy a kit. I love the design of the Juaggu, and amphibious Zeon MS in general. It's a great mix of menacing and goofy.
Honestly, just that one fight has been one of my favorite moments so far. Really managed to drive home the weighty and methodical feel that I love to see, especially with an old tanky One Year War relic like the Juaggu. I would be buying the Kapool HG too, It it wasn't so expensive and low-quality.
I have arrived from the near future to correct myself: The Kapool is actually pretty decent. Not great, but plenty for an old HG. Would be getting one, if they weren't so hard to come by.
The numbers definitely puts into perspective just what a monster the Juaggu is. 137 tons empty. Almost TWO HUNDRED TONS fully loaded. And despite that, it's not a meter taller than most suits. This thing carries an entire fully loaded Jesta's worth of rockets and fuel. And even empty, it outweighs most suits two-fold with just armor plating alone. The Juaggu's parameters are insane; even by the standards of its time, when super-heavy suits were still considered. Fast forward 20 years, and... Well, sure enough. Being bigger is a trick that never really goes out of fashion.
They did not try they did they were presented by a surprise attack that was led by 2 mobile suits that are strong and they defeated them and the only reason they got killed is because a massive beam weapon instantly vaporized them
@B1_224 of course man I'm all for my beloved grunt suits, but yeah they did suffer a lot of losses before winning the battle in the end, only to be destroyed by the shamblo.
There's just something cool about Zeon MS. They look very unhuman and menacing, and with a lot of creative weaponry. You dont know what will it do until it was too late like 01:21

The GMs were very capable Mobile Suits and very dangerous in the right hands, but once you knew what one GM could do you knew what they all capable of at their full potential. Zeon Mobile Suits were different in that respect. One Zaku could be different from another and even customized by the pilots. Also Zeon rolled out so many different models that was very hard for the Feds to know what kind of opposition they would be facing until they were already on the battlefield. The feds relied on the GM, and it's variants, way to heavily.

@@Warsie no it was the same spot, the juaggu team was the only zeon remnant force attacking at the moment, meaning that's where all the gms were concentrated.
Zeon had its fair share of less than sturdy suits like the Kampfer, but their amphibious suits were notoriously hard to put down. The Gogg was one of the few suits to take the Gundams hyper hammer head on. It was the granddaddy of all of Zeon’s amphibious MS, and it’s successors inherited it’s durability in most cases.
The Federation's replacement of GM-II's is well overdue since the day the AEUG starting kicking their behinds on Gryps II to steal the Gundam Mk-II's. I don't understand why they didn't scrap the GM-II's in order to make more GM-III's? What was it just familiarity for pilots? It was a 12 year old machine, compared to the GM-III (Started service 0088) and Jegan (and 89) which was barely into its five year service and would still be in use with Londo Bell and would serve until 0100 and 0150 respectively, but the Zeeks were using "walking war museums" until they fell apart or got destroyed.
I don't remember if a reason was ever given but I think it was more so that they didn't have the resources. After the multiple colony drops, the earth was on her last legs and the Feds were losing their grip. So devoting their resources to Londo Bell and ECOAS to just hunt down the now dwindling Zeon, was probably more attractive to the government. If you think about it, the Federation wasn't expecting there to be a united attack by Zeon OYW vets who had just been camping out in the jungle for 2 decades. Would make sense that their ground forces were some ass since they would have had their best in space to intercept the bulk of Zeon's forces.
I can't find a difference but really them dropping asteroids and objects could be more effective than doing an all out united invasion, as they are terrorists and not an official army that follows the laws of war, like Lhasa got obliterated and all thats left of Sydney is a giant spot viewable from space. Now in other cases it didn't seem effective like Dublin which just... Stopped falling when it hit the ground? Idk even what happened afterwards did they make the colony apart of the city with levels or did they just scrap it? I think the best possible use of launching foreign objects at space was hinted at in Gundam Narrative when Zoltan Akkanen tried to use a Helium 3 farm as dirty bombs in a chain explosion which would create a massive debris field and head towards Earth that not even the Earth Feds could stop without adding more debris to it by destroying it or blockading it. It mirrors real life events that could happen if junk in space starts to build up, the junk will change shape and make the space around Earth uninhabitable until many years later when the Debris has either burned up in Earths atmosphere or crashed into Earths surface. Then again it would probably be dealt with before it happens as hauling a large asteroid/colony through space without anyone noticing is unlikely and the Feds could use the Colony Laser to deal with it if its one target.
It's cheap. Many militaries frequently employ old equipment in reserve forces. GM-IIs seem to be used in city guard duties. Especially when the federation is so corrupt, problems like Zeon remnants don't seem that severe considering that they had been defeated in the last several wars.
its probably because for what it is, its still probably pretty decent at least in terms of cost-to-effectiveness. remember large armies dont want/cant have only "the best" otherwise they would have just went with gundams only. they also have to take in other factors like initial cost of the unit, ease of maintenance, how easily is it to be upgraded, transportability and many other factors. just look at all of our "modern" main battle tanks the original designs are from the 70s and 80s but through upgrades to electronics and armaments they are still considered "modern" the same could be said about GM IIs i can almost guarantee that they have some sort of software and hardware upgrade that just isnt visible like sensors and cameras as well as targetting systems. and yeah they might not be able to stand up to the top of the line mobile suits like the jesta or even the jegan but they dont have to be, they just have to be good enough and it doesnt help that suits like jestas are limited production suits and not mass production so each suit can have more money per suit since there will be less of them. quantity does beat out quality if you have enough and thats what the GM line series what built to do, just be good enough.

That's mainly on part that those outdated clunkers were piloted by zeon veterans who has years of experience and nearly 20 years of waiting for revenge
Well your not wrong like the gm2 is the biggest example of how budget conserative the federation can be as those things are just overhauled 1 year gms that was made for quantity over quality , the gm2 was hopelessly outdated in the gryps conflict. The fed had been able to completely replace the gm2 to as it still being used to the events of unicorn. As you can see the majority of suits defending Torrington base were left overs from the gryps war and neo zeon war
@@spartana1116 i can some what understand reason of the gm2 since they need a mobile suit to fight zaku 2 and need ton of them but after war if i remember right on a book i had read the fed had roughly 30,000 gm and nothing to do with them so they upgrade them to gm 2 which can macth the RX-78-2 but suit later on would easy out play the gundam so they face a big problem later.
Its wierd that the federation has a bad habit of using what was supposed to be state of the art ms but ends up using them decades to half a century later
I never noticed as the yellow suit is shooting the two gm's the nemo with the machine gun is shooting his arm as the half a second before the frame ends show it being targeted and impacted.

Zeon is ironically great at making mobile suits and other machines perfect for combat on Earth, but kind of sucks at making space mobile suits. The Federation is the inverse, also ironically. Heck, imagine if Zeon had focused on designing mobile suit types to compliment each other. They’d have been basically unstoppable on Earth. But, they’d probably lose in space and end up, ironically, ruling Earth while the colonies remain in the Federation. Essentially stranding them on Earth until they can break out. And with their design themes, it’d be like knights keeping eldritch abominations contained in a prison. That’s actually a pretty cool alternate universe…

In GBO2, this is exactly what jappens. Juaggu is a solid support, as long as you have generals and raids tying up the enemy.

Zeon actually ecouraged experimentation with the desgins of their vehicles instead of copying what the federation does.
