to clarify, this is a mixture of GAA and AFL. The test series is held in Australia and Ireland every second year and both teams have won in the past. It’s a chance to promote both sports as they’re both somewhat similar

Absolutely, I feel like the compromise rules are a lot closer to GAA than AFL, but I prefer Gaelic anyway lol. Since they added the mark rule it’s pretty close, but the tackling gives defenses a way to stop a solid drive dead, and those are pretty exciting too, with the offset being you see more plays for possession in Gaelic. I’ll definitely look to see if there’s any GAA in my area, but eastern KY is pretty set in its ways, most people’s sport of choice is basketball or cornhole.
Even though it is theoretically easier and a good choice for this game, it is still hard to adapt to a round ball if you usual play with a Sherrin. Very impressive how the Aussie lads can get the hang of the round ball so quickly and were pushing for the win. A couple of minutes more and it might have been a different outcome. Their fitness and tenacity is always going to be professional level but it's their fielding, passing and kicking too that's just as good. Class bunch of sportsmen.
Even though Aussie rules isn’t the most commercialised sport, it is highly professional and AFL players are top notch athletes. They’re all in incredible shape, comparable to soccer players, and they all need to have a high level of skill, being able to catch/mark the ball, kick the ball with accuracy, punch the ball accurately, carry the ball without taking too many steps without bouncing. And all that with enormous pace and little time. Started watching the AFL just recently, I am really impressed.
@@LomuHabanaactually i would go so far as to say they need to be even fitter due to using their upper bodies for handballs and tackling and also run further due to having a bigger field
@@ElonMuskTheFueler I compared them in terms of general fitness and “leanness”. Both can’t permit having any unnecessary fat cells and have to have solid muscles resilience. But you are right, AFL player need on top of that even more athleticism and physicality. Tackling (especially since tackling the legs is illegal, unlike in Rugby) and hand passing (they are able to give hand passes/punches over distances longer than 20 meters, insane) is one thing, but don’t forget marking/contesting. They really need to have good leg muscles to be able to jump high and being physically strong to be able to use their bodies in the context. The combination of general fitness/stamina/running ability, strength, strength endurance, athleticism and agility is probably unmatched by any sport. Well there's two main reasons; 1) That is needlessly complicated to get two sports played in the one series. It's happened in the past and generally doesn't go well. It'd merely be a smashing in each preferred sport. The compromise rules add advantages and disadvantages to each team. 2) Ireland does not have big oval stadiums, that's an Aussie Rules and Cricket thing. The point of the series is that it can alternate between both countries and doing what you said would be impossible if the Irish also had to play under Australian rules. 3) (As a bonus) The series used to be a best of 2 series, with the winner on aggregate score should the games be 1-1. It'll likely return to this format once the series resumes in 2017.
luke tyson13 Ok, I'm a completly noob in that sport... What do you think are the skills diference between gaelic football goalie and football goalie? Because seems very similar (the job of the goalie)

Nope. Mixture of Australian Rules football and GAA. Pretty nice mixture of the two but I think it favours GAA players, they just have to get used to the tackling because the tackling is basically non contact compared to the AFL

2 matches next year
why not alternate each quarter with oval and round ball
A mix of soccer and handball?
Why don't they just have a best out of 3 and play both games the team that looses the series the year before plays their game twice
Well there's two main reasons;
1) That is needlessly complicated to get two sports played in the one series.
Remi Tincan because they both don’t play each other’s sport what you see hear is a mix of the two
Is this Gaelic? Or another kind of game?
I play a bit of rugby in my country, and sometime I've heard about gaelic football, looks very funny
Sorta like Gaelic, not the same though
Can be Buffon or Neuer amazing gaelic football goalies?
luke tyson13 Ok, I'm a completly noob in that sport... What do you think are the skills diference between gaelic football goalie and football goalie? Because seems very similar (the job of the goalie)
Ktbk keepers in Gaelic have a far further kick as the GAA pitch is much longer than a football pitch
A soccer goalkeeper is just a shot stopper where as a gaelic keeper has more of a role in distribution and maintaining posessionThe game is much more high scoring so the more possession you have the more you score usually.Important to note that while this game has elements of gaelic football its not gaelic football this is a hybrid between gaelic and AFL kbk
I can't remember but are both games played with the GAA ball coz if so seems very unfair towards the Ozzie's no ?
Both games are played with a Gaelic football yes but GAA doesn’t have marks, wrap tackles and only has two goalposts (3 including crossbar)
It is slightly unfair, but would be much more unfair to make the Gaelic players kick a Sherrin
Can you run with the ball like in rugby or is there a limit to how many steps you can take while carrying the ball? 🤔
There is a steps rule but not sure how many in this hybrid game, in GAA (Irish) its 4,
Betts is my favourite player in Adelaide but I go for Carlton
Wait, is this not just GAA?
Nope. Mixture of Australian Rules football and GAA. Pretty nice mixture of the two but I think it favours GAA players, they just have to get used to the tackling because the tackling is basically non contact compared to the AFL
What exactly happened from 0:34 to 0:44?
LMFAOOOOOO HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA
Anyone watching in longford at supporting Mickey Quinn of my native killoe
I think I'm going to Australia, I didn't know there was Australian football, this football is better than Brazilian football, it has a lot more emotion.
Come to Ireland for Gaelic football.
