      Djog because its not a grassroots creation and not a single sport its a hybrid created by the two different governing bodies the GAA and AFL.The Irish are not going to give up playing Gaelic football or The aussies aren't going to give up playing australian football at local level for this hybrid game,grand for international competition where no other outlet is available.The rules of gaelic football are becoming more like this game,but that is to improve gaelic football not to replace gaelic football with this hybrid

  • @snapperl
    @snapperl 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I'm, trying to understand the rules. How often do you have to dribble the ball (ie, bounce it on the ground) and do you only have to dribble when moving toward the opposing goal? Seems like people moving parallel to the goal did not have to dribble.

    • @1sampernice
      @1sampernice 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      This is an adapted version of Irish Gaelic football and Australian Football so that a fair competition can be played for both nationalities. This is known as the International Rules competition.
      There is one ‘International Rules Series’ per year which consists of a two leg series always played between Australia and Ireland only.
      Players only have to dribble when they are on the ground, other times you see them dribbling is by choice as it avoids picking the ball off the ground and being tackled. The ball must be bounced every 15 steps .
      Scoring can happen 3 ways; a goal worth 6 points if the ball goes in the net, an ‘over’ worth 3 points if it goes over the net and through the two big posts in the middle, a ‘behind’ worth one point if it goes through the sticks on either side of the middle ones.
      Tackling a player is allowed , however you cannot pull at a players shirt in the process.
      If a player catches the ball from a kick 15 metres or further it is a ‘mark’ and the player can choose to take up to 10 seconds to possess of the ball protected from opposition players. Alternatively they can choose to ‘play on’ which will mean play continues when they have possession and they can be tackled.
      Players can also dispose of the ball by ‘hand balling’ it, however play does not stop when a player catches a handball, even it does travel further than 15 metres.

  • @garrymcgauran4978
    @garrymcgauran4978 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Popped up in my feed in 2024. The aussies were very smooth & strong in their movement. GAA with the round ball allows them to be more direct and utilise bouncing ball. Whereas the aussies aarc their runs to ensure a clean catch and time to dispatch before the tackle. They adapted very well to the GAA elements of the compromise. In this fixture at least.

    • @KRW1612
      @KRW1612 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, the Irish don't run in their game?
      How about this.
      Round ball (Gaelic)
      Netted goal as in soccer (Gaelic)
      Small rectangular field of play (Gaelic)
      Smaller number of players (Gaelic)
      Handball limitation (Gaelic)
      Ball possession restriction if not on feet (Gaelic)
      Bouncing restriction (Gaelic)
      Punching, slapping, heading, elbowing the ball into the net for a 6 pointer (Gaelic)
      Kicking slightly backwards to a team mate is an offence (Gaelic)
      There's more, but hey, you get my drift!

    • @clayfada6993
      @clayfada6993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kicking the ball backwards is not an offence in gaelic. Its not a mark ,but you can still kick backwards in this game here as well.
      There is no handball limitation in gaelic.
      Also usually no gaelic pitch(largest rectangular pitch in the world) is as small as they used in the adelaide oval its usually 10 metres wider and 15metres longer because being a two sport body it has to be big enough for hurling.For example on St patricks day club finals in hurling and football are played on the same day.
      The bouncing restriction is not like that in gaelic you can bounce the ball as much as you like but not consecutively you solokick the ball to yourself and after you can bounce,but you can do that up and down the pitch
      Also kickouts have to only go 13metres and next year 20,but not as in this game to the 45metre line
      In gaelic you have to use your foot to rise the ball not directly lift as in this game.Look at a real gaelic football match before you make ill informed comments.I have doubts also about the ball it may be round ,but its not the standard O' neills(which i have no problem with)

    • @kudos1209
      @kudos1209 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's pretty one-sided - how about this:
      Full time professional players versus players who have full time jobs and train in the morning and evening (massive advantage Australia)
      Mark (AFL)
      Four posts so teams can score a 'behind' (comes from AFL)
      Full tackle which doesn't exist in Gaelic (AFL)
      Out of these, the big advantages for the Australians are the fact that they are full time professional athletes against amateurs and the tackle...as a result, AFL players will always be better conditioned physically and stronger.
      If you look at rugby union there is definitely no physical superiority to the Aussies when they play Ireland - if anything the Irish pack usually out out-muscle the Australian one and the Aussies usually have more pace, athleticism and skill out wide.
      The difference here is the combination of pro v amateur and conditioning for a more physical game.
      The difficulty with a compromise between two sports is that it's impossible to get the perfect balance to make it an interesting contest - both sides will always feel they are disadvantaged if they lose by a significant margin.
      In Ireland, this series is really seen as a way of rewarding amateur players for their incredible commitment by representing their country.
      While it's nice to win it, nobody loses too much sleep if we don't.
      I think it has a future but will never be a serious international sport, just a celebration of two different sports with proud histories.
      Just relax and enjoy it.

    • @clayfada6993
      @clayfada6993 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are really 3 things
      1 the disparity between whats needed physically between the two games
      2 The irish struggle with recovery
      3 Its nearly the same as no2 GAA intercounty players over train,because the training methods are not up to date.That is also a result of being an amateur sport,because the expertise in training is not their to the extent it is in pro sports

It probably is more suited towards the Gaelic football players but they aren’t professionals and have real jobs on top of training so for them to play well against the professional Australian players is a good achievement
